I work with juveniles in the criminal justice system. This boy told me this very thing yesterday. They all say, “it’s what we know.” I tell them there is so much more than they know out in the world. It kills me bc they are so deep into the gangs and the streets. I put them in therapy and programs galore. Most of them are too far away by the time I get them. All I can do is make them feel loved and accepted as I watch them self destruct, die, and kill each other. It’s the hardest job. They are never far from my mind…like now. I’m writing this little message at 12:43. This song was recently played at one of their funerals. It’s just so hard and painful.
