Is a great idea. If the D15S works for your needs already then the fan upgrade should net you enough benefit. The improved heatsink will yield more of a benefit with hotter chips ala 14900K levels.
Even with the D15 G2, the Phantom Spirit 120 (EVO) is still the new aircooler benchmark imo. It outperforms the PA 120, basicly on par with the G2 while being way smaller than the G2 and all that for 1/3 the price.
I really doubt that it could be close within 5c at same noise levels but d15 g2 will still be a fair bit better at everything. still only would get the d15 if money is no issue.
@@shrillyy1604 Depends on the workload and the new PS120 EVO fans are a lot better than the usual PS120 fans. At 120W it heavily outperforms the G2 in noise to performance and it outperforms it in 250W load up to 66-68C°. Only once you get to 320W load the G2 will be ahead, but that makes sense. And even then you could technically use two NF-A12x25 on the PS120 and it will perform even better in terms of noise to performance and will still be 50 bucks cheaper than the G2. Noctua will of course always have the advantage of pretty much perfect customer serivce, free mounting brackets forever, free replacement parts etc.

I could see the PSevo with a12s beating the u12a but not the d15 the d15 has so much more size and with the g2 now much more RnD.
Would love to see you go into depth on this case like the NR200, it's a lot of work I understand but I think what Louqe achieved in a case smaller than the NR200 is great. Lot's of versatility with the fan and motherboard configs in that case too. Love the content!
I can't wait for the louqe r1 review! Love the simple all metal design this is almost perfect for me if it didn't have the rounded edges. Wish could see the silver color but I most likely will still order
@@kerotomas1 With te PS120 EVO with it's new fans it even outperforms the G2 up to 120 and 250W load in noise to performance, which is what most people out there will push their CPU to anyway. Only once you get to the 300W+ load it can't fully keep up with the G2, but the people who run constant 300W+ loads probably already have a huge AIO.
replaced my h100i with this. idle temps went from 60 to 45C. 7800x3d. I'm happy now. I did accidentally buy the offset plates twice. They came with the cooler.
So this is going to fit in a O11 Dynamic with 167mm clearance just fine. As my current D15 with heatsink covers allows me to fit my pinky in between the cover and the glass.
@@komm13 the people looking at these reference layout cases think about these things yes, the whole point of going 15-20L like with the CH160, NR200P etc. is increased hardware compatibility and potent aircooling. Having a small case that can fit the best aircooler of the market is a huge plus. Those that don't care wouldn't even consider cases this big.
Looking forward to the R1 review. Is that color close to black in person, or is it more like the NR200P grey? It looks a lot more grey than black here. Thanks!
Expensive as they are cheaper alternatives out there, but I will still pick Noctua due to its solid reputation. Now this air cooler might be overkill for a budget build.
Thanks for including g1 fans on g2 heatsink. Other reviewers haven’t included that for testing. I still think even if I were willing to pay more for a premium cooler, I’d likely go for the Dark Rock elite and I can get it for around half the price of the d15 g2 when it’s on sale and noctua never goes on sale. Phantom Spirit Evo is also amazing not only for performance and price but it looks really nice as well. Would be interesting to see if the nf-a12x25 fans provide a similar delta on the g1 vs g2 heatsink
I'm planning these days to upgrade from AM4 to AM5 with 7800x3d....my Fuma 2 is the model SCFM-2000, please, is this model fully compatible with AM5? I appreciate any of your reply!
What kind of magic is Thermalright using? A very cheap 120mm cooler competing with one of the biggest and the most expensive 140mm cooler there is. TR is the undisputed king of air coolers right now
All the magic seems to be in their base plate. They have found a curvature that works brilliantly across Intel and AMD without resorting to gimmicks or additional hardware.
Simply there is just that much heat you can extract from a given CPU size, regardless of the size of the fans there are just that many heat pipes and cm² of contact area you can have over the CPU, that's why you need liquid if you really want to see a steap up in performance.
@@Pamani_ The dual tower cooler is cheaper than a single fan for a reason... they cheap out on the fans, by a lot, especially so on the bearings. If you highly prioritize reliability and acoustics, grabbing the A14x25r G2 is a good idea.
I feel like instead of having three versions and confusing customers, they should have just made the standard version and provided offset mount for AMD users and a contact frame for Intel users, like Arctic does.
I hate to say it. The G2 arrives at the market looking like an old design. I’m sure it will be among the best performers easily-but it does look dated IMO. They took so long they allowed tower cooler design language to meaningfully change before coming to market
Indeed- I am referring to AM4 and LGA1700. Offset AM5 works best with the standard version. So the LBC is really just ideal for AM4, and HBC for LGA1700- with that in mind those are phasing out so users getting either version may not get the best performance out of whatever they choose next.
Can't see a reason for why that cooler would make sense, it's just too expensive when for the same price you can get liquid coolers that vastly outperform it, which negates the biggest advantage of air collers (price to performance). If one really doesn't want to go liquid you can get something that will have a 3-4°C difference for half the price or probably even less, and it's probably going to go head to head with the new 140mm from Thermalright.
Yes, although it depends on RAM height. To the highest point of the heatsink it’s roughly 165mm so as long as you can get fans to sit lower than the heatpipe tips, you are fine. On my MSI Z690 I board I got great clearance because the outboard fan sat just beyond the RAM slots. On my AM5 board it wasn’t as good and I got some interference with the fan and side panel. I would say it’s do-able as long as you are willing to try lower RAM sticks or even remove the heat spreaders if needed.
Good review but this product is 6 years too late. It is close to the PA120 despite costing so much more. Royal Preytor (terrible name) is a much more exciting upcoming offering
imo, R1 colour looks unappealing. it’s as boring grey as you can imagine, at least from the video. if M2 grater was not simply a plot of imagination, but an actual buyable product, louqe R1 would be nearly irrelevant to me.
"Will last from CPU to CPU to CPU" -> this used to be the case with Noctua, but now with the different versions it's doubtful you will be able to reuse it with your next system and get the optimal performance.
Even though i love noctua products, this is just bonkers. Whoever is considering buying this, don't. Too expensive, and the price to performance ratuio is ridiculously high. you can get the thermalright for nearly 1/5 of the price and only performs 2-3 degrees worse, nothing that you would ever notice or affect you.
Machines & More : Thermalright Pearless Assasin 120 is practically 1-2 °C worse....and it costs 40 bucks....while this rehashed v1 NH-D15 costs 150+ bucks. Hahahaha, Noctua is obsoulette and must go away to make room for Thermalright that is bjotch slaping every Noctua cooler in comparable build quality and better performance.
I swear I'm becoming an official Noctua hater, it's just absurd to me seeing the amount of money people waste on overpriced fans and coolers... I mean, when you dump 100€+ on a cooler and 120€+ for 4 extra fans (all made in China as the other brands btw, I wish they were at least manufacturing in Austria for those prices) when you don't have everything else top spec in your computer means you're literrally losing out on performance against a system that spent that money on a better CPU or GPU. Oh, and now with the new non flate contact plate coolers you also lose the "it's gonna last decades" argument since the curvature probabbly won't match the next cpu you buy.
Comparable build quality?? I see people complaining about thermalrights fan bearing rattle noise after few months of use meanwhile tons people have been using D15 for a decade and it still runs fine lol
@@ThunderingRoar I've had my Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE since 2021 when it launched and it has been running 24/7 eversince....no rattling noises from the fans. And buttercup, no fan is worth another 110 bucks....if mine happens to die in 4-5 years....I'll just buy a new 1500rpm 12cm one for 10-15 bucks and continue to have it for 4-5 years more. That way I'll reach that fictional decade of yours with 1 more spare fan and I'll still only pac 55 bucks combined for the cooler itself that outperforms every possible Noctua air cooler on the market.
lol BS video - the best my ass, PS EVO 120 beats this. for a 3rd of the price. The preytor ULTRA is incoming from Thermalright which reduces load temps by a further 4c - It will SMOKE the g2 for 1/3rd of the price - and beat it !
Sorry but this just reinforces the value of Thermalright's offerings right now. If you buy Noctua at this point you are simply paying for a name. This is coming from someone who still uses the D14.
