This might be useful to someone. I've got this cooler for a 35W TDP CPU (i7-7700T). Mounted on a Fractal Design Node 304 case (compact). Numbers with the case closed and the front case fans at minimum. Rear case fan is off due to not enough system temperature to turn on via fan curves. The cooler's fan maxes at 50% as per fan curves profile. 22C ambient temperature. Stress tested using stress cli tool: stress --cpu 8 --io 4 --vm 4 --vm-bytes 1024M --timeout 600s Idle: 39C Full: 61C (after 9 minutes) I would imagine the numbers would be somewhat better with more aggressive fan curves for the rear case fan and the CPU, but my system is configured to be as quiet as possible.

One of the best low profile cpu coolers. BUT don't forget the Silverstone AR06 which is 30% cheaper and very similar in build.

This is the most underrated noctua cooler it has the small form factor of the l9i but with a bigger surface area the fan can spin a lot slower I have been using one on my Ryzen 9 5950x for a year now it's been amazing

For clarity max load test of my 5900X all 12 cores running 100%, top temp was 74C. But in real life I never run the CPU that hard. And generally it stays the 60s or lower with the NHU-14S, a very large case, and 3 case fans. In contrast, building my son't PC; the case is smaller but has 6 case fans. So I expect air to move a lot better.

I must have mounted mine wrong when I changed out the cpu, at higher rpm the fan is making a rattling sound against the fins.

If it's rattling, then the fan is not properly seated on the heatsink. Check the fan clips.

You can, but if you want to overclock, then it's not a good choice.

If it held together an i9 9900K with an overclock it should probably do well enough in my stock i7 12700F. I don't intend on overclocking it anyway. What do you think?

Nice review. Two extra positive items about this cooler: The provided fan mounting clips will work with either the 14mm thick included A9x14 fan or the 25mm thick A9x25 fan. This thicker fan spins only up to 2000 RPM instead of 2500 RPM being quite a bit quieter and also moving more air. The cooler is then 76mm tall (L9x76?). The AM-4 version includes 2 sets of mounting bars so that the cooler can be rotated in 90 degree increments to ensure the heat pipes run horizontally with a vertically mounted motherboard.

Im getting a ryzen 7 3800X and im not tryna overclock or anything, just keep it set at 4.4Ghz, will this cooler be good enough for that?

Not really, you need a bigger cooler for that CPU, something with more cooling surface overall. Look at the NH-C14S or the Dark Rock TF from be quiet!

The NH-L12S is better as it has a bigger radiator and a larger cooling surface.

I use this in my VR rig since it's built in an HTPC chassi with limited clearance. Have worked great so far, but I haven't ventured into overclocking with it.

That's a good way to use such CPU coolers. I often recommend overclocking only if you need more performance, if it works, then it works.

Do you think that would suit the needs of my Ryzen 5 3600? I don't plan on overclocking for now, and my case is a Corsair Spec-04 Tempered Glass which only supports CPU Coolers up to 150mm tall, so this CPU cooler kinda seems to fit my needs. What do you think?

Do you think I should spend 20 dollars more and get a Noctua NH-U9S, which is a tower cpu cooler, instead of that one, or is that one already fine for gaming and light overclocking? It will work but keep the voltage as low as you can and the airflow as high as it can.

Not really. You need a bigger CPU for that i7. Try one of the higher TDP Top flow coolers.

Take a look at the Noctua NH-U12S, it should be better suited for your CPU.

@@ahsanmeer926 Yes, you need good airflow inside the case otherwise this CPU cooler will not be able to cool your CPU. The CPU cooler is small and if it does not have a lot of airflow it will not perform well.

For that CPU, you need to get the Noctua NH-L9x65 SE AM4. As for what temp. to expect, I'd say around 65-70c when gaming.

Not really suitable for that CPU and with that overclock. You need more cooling surface area, even for an 4690K.

I just purchased the Aerocool eclipse case(ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-eWGnG6HF3y4.html&vl=en) and it already has 4 fans in it and intend putting another fan in,(transferring all my parts from my ITX 130 case to new one). Presently I using the Mastercool 120 watercooler and still works fine but it is now 6 years old. I use a MSI ITX Z971ac board, really want to go back to a heatsink fan system. My issue is the memory clearance , as I have 16GB Corsair 2400 Vengeance Memory sticks 4.5 cm tall. So looking for a low profile cooler without a watercooler and with no obstruction of the memory sticks. Any ideas would appreciate it.

@@gracierunwiththewind I meant the cooling surface area of the heatsink, not the PC case. The heatsink is too small to cooling that CPU, also the fan itself is small. The AeroCool Aero One looks to have up to 161mm of space for the CPU cooler, that's not exactly little, you can look at the Noctua NH-U12S as an example.
