I think that is the whole point of the song lol He's a bored small town teenager that is romanticizing a life he'd never get a chance to live out even if he survived
I love the way you show the pain and terribleness that Monique’s life is really like, and then Noel’s sick enjoyment that he gets out of the idea of suffering the way she is. It’s absolutely beautiful and I wish we had that in the musical
In a way, it's a very difficult but brutally honest life. In a way, it is everything he's not. He's a gay man working at Taco bell in an uneventful town. Being the only perceived gay man; he yearns for a sexual liberation. In his dreams; he dreams of being Monique. Someone who lived life on the edge. Someone who had command over who she slept with. A gloomy but idealized life of suffering and indulgence. Monique suffers in post-war France; but finds the thrill by living on the edge. Having killed her previous pimp, buying into the lies of love of broken men. He find suffering more exciting than his mundane life. Noel yearns for excitement and liberation, even if it's in the most absurd or chaotic way. Something his current life just isn't offering him.
the thing is, living like that, whole is horrible, is so much better than living how noel was. hiding such a large pet of himself and constantly dampening it down and everything, it grates on you a lot. so to noel atleast, living like that was so much more appealing and better than how he was. i can’t remember what video it was, but there are a couple videos that go into all the songs really well
I love how Noel has just been told that in order to have a second chance in life others have to vote for him, and he decides to sing THIS. Iconic, I'll never forget him.
@@snaekling I don’t think Ricky was actually trying to get people to vote for him since he conceded after his song because he realized his real life kinda sucked unlike Noel who was still in the running after this lmao
One comment about his vocals: Right before he hits that high note you can HEAR his soft palette lift and its INCREDIBLE to hear from a male singer especially one who is mostly alto- ranged
@@marilynnrosemary3951 well yes, the range reccomended (for male singers) is a Tenor which for female singers or mixed choirs equates to that of an alto. the part requires a tenor for the role, one who is able to do high notes and low notes, and here we have Kholby Wardell who is most likely a tenor however i probably mislabeled him as an alto.
I fucking love the grotesque dream Noel has. Because the way you can see how much Monique suffers by the way he tells her story shows how someone could easily think he's insane. Especially since you can see the pure enjoyment in his face just thinking about having a chance to live said life.
OKAY BEST SONG IN THE SHOW. but i love how noel just yearns (that’s a silly word) for this miserable life. you can hear it in his monologue before the song. but omg i love this. also the mischa scene >>>
BROKEN HEART, A FLASK OF GIN TATTOOED WITH A SAFETY PIN TEETH ALL STAINED WITH NICOTINE RUNNING NYLONS, SHATTERED DREAMS SUPER CRUSTY, HOLY TERROR WILD EYES AND BLACK MASCARA

This is outstanding! OMG, I've been obsessed with "Jane Doe" for a long time. But when I saw this, I decided to give it a listen, and now this is my new favorite song! The art is amazing! You captured the mood perfectly.
This is so good!!the way you draw is so fun to look at and I especially loved the priest part being an omage to actual silent films that used this font to show dialogue! Amazing job!
this is the first time im hearing this song in full and holy shit i am STUNNED. your animatic made it so much better and is so so SO well done, detailed and paced. i adore this, thank you for making it
look, i have a kinda weird headcanon: i am someone that used to romanticize life a LOT, and i would just pretend i was a woman in the victorian times, to try ti shield myself from what happened to me, and use that to try and pretend nothing was actually happening to me and only to that woman, dramatizing it a lil bit so her lore would be a bit more interesting, because i thought my life wasn’t interesting enough. so… what if what noel does is that? what if the “new men” monique embraces every night are different crushes that pretended to not do anything with him but would kiss in secret, only to realize that wasnt what they wanted and be assholes to him? what if the cigarette burns monique has are from the fact noel wonders what that would feel like, so he could feel something? what if the whole being the “town bicycle” was because of the boys that explored their sexuality with him, spreading rumors he did so with random guys? what those things happened to him, but in minor scale? its an interesting thing to think about :> (sorry if my english is bad its not my native language!!!]
This is one of the best animatics I have ever seen! I am in love with the art style and it perfectly depicts how I see Noel. It is just so good and the detail in the frames is amazing.
