The Gallagher's childhood story and their positive music gave me strength to overcome my own family issues. I love how Noel doesn't express resentment. He's my #1 hero. Bless him!
@jon cullen I hate that he went through that. In his own words, and I agree, it made him *fearless* when he realized he wasn't dead lying on the floor knocked unconscious. He's definitely scarred for life. But he's managed to bring greatness out of his life from such dark horrors.
Noel is a gentelman, i was at the edinburgh hogmanay party 2008 and he was standing about 20 yards away behind a big fence with the kasabian front man so i took the opertunity to shout over to him (come and shake my hand noel) he stopped his conversation with tom and come over and shook my hand wished me a happy new year told me to have a good one then went back to his convo wi tom, superb got photos of him aswell.
I want to give that man such a big hug. Noel Gallagher has inspired me like nothing else has. Without him and the influence of Oasis I would not be the happy, carefree and hard working person I am today. So heartbreaking at 5:59
Noel is just a great guy in general...i mean as we can see at 5:59 he looks like hes getting ready to cry as most people would but for him to feel the way he did then and turn it round into a laugh is just amazing...shows he doesnt wanna brag bout his problems yet his music helps so many people with theirs god bless you Sir Noel Gallagher
One of my favourite all time interviews. I think you can feel the respect from Noel here. He's much more reserved and emotional than when you see him normally, and I think thats because he respects Parkinson and knows he wont put a negative slant on what he says, however much he opens up about himself. The chat show format died completely when Parky retired.
It's not very often that an interviewer scrathes the surface to find out what makes somebody tick and it's very rare to see noel speechless. Both legends in there fields.
A lot of people who had a childhoods like Noel did wallow in self pity and negativity their whole lives. Instead he made himself strong, changed his situation and somehow stayed so positive. Thats rare. 5.59 is so sad to see, he obviously still carries that stuff around but he REFUSES to let it define him. At the same time, its probably what fuels his relationship with music.. the only justification for pain is art.
People react different to different situations, just because Noel was strong willed and got through it other people mentally can, doesn’t make them less of a man/woman because they mentally can’t get through it and need to seek help
Hearing Noel respond to his father's actions really struck a chord with me and changed my opinion not only on him but the entire band. With strength and love; you can truly live through anything.
I love his philosophy, it's such an antidote to mining self-analysis as some route to enlightenment. I also love his definition of fame: "When I go back to my old pub, if I buy everyone a drink it's all 'flash bastard', but if I don't buy everyone a drink it's all 'tight bastard'.... lol
My god. Parkinson is an absolute genius as an interviewer. Like he’s literally the only person in the world that can ask these questions and get away with it in such a classy manner.
I was also brought up in the 70's and myself and many of my mates would get beatings. Nobody thought it unusual. I also remember lying in bed waiting on my dad to come in from the pub pissed, never knowing what mood he would be in. Different times.
I really respect Noel Gallagher. Probably more than his little brother Liam, because Liam's way to swayable. Noel on the other hand, joined the band and just took over. Now he writes some of the greatest songs ever, and plays guitar in the band. In my opinion, he should also be the lead singer. Noel seems really cool and laid back in this interview. Good video.
Sentimental moment for Noel considering it mentions his dad who both he and Liam refuse to speak to but you're right it is a weird moment to see Noel close to tears.
can't believe some of the disgusting comments knocking around here.Noel Gallagher is a rarity...a solid gold collectors edition that grows in value as years subside. He had nothing, few friends,a shit dad & low self esteem. He didn't blame immigration, the middle classes, education etc. He picked up a guitar, taught himself how to play & a few years later changed the lives of millions. He's never changed;still a chirpy gent, still supporting the same shit team and singing about living forever Top man
Noel is a legend, He is an amzing guitarist. i stopped playin the guitar for a few years because i lost interest. but i got into Oasis properly and his song writing and the band has inspired me to pick it back up, it has with millions of people too
For those that don't know, whenever Noel or Liam were shown on MTV in the states there were always subtitles . I gotta be honest, I wouldn't mind them during this interview.
what a different interview. usually he just deflects with some witty line, which he was doing until about half way through. just goes to show what a brilliant interviewer parky is.
I Cant Believe People Still Hate Noel After Seeing This......Here he is not just a legend but a great man that takes everything in the good way even says that even when his father beat him it wasnt much diferent that other kids in his hood...so he doesnt directs all the problems to himself and moves on.....a really top Man.....
at the 6min and beyond mark, when asked how it was for him growing up with no hope, you can see visibly he was moved to his guts remembering what his life was like..respect to him man, he did something about getting the fuck out of his cruddy life.
When Parky says "Define that brotherly love", I thought Noel was gonna what he said in a previous interview "I love Liam, just not as much as Pot Noodles" :D
The man wrote cracking good songs. When I first heard Live Forever, it sounded both familiar and like nothing had come before it--yes, it was that good. I didn't think they could top it, and they didn't, but they came awfully close with Some Might Say.
say what you like about the Gallagher brothers, or Oasis, but to me Noel is one of the most interesting men in rock today. There just isnt any bullshit with him.
I think there is an underlying mutual respect between Noel and Parky. Parky asks pertinent questions instead of the usual "Which bands do you like/hate" and Noel gives him honest, thoughtful answers. A great interview.
Noel always gives a great interview where Liam always comes across to me as slightly awkward in interviews. He’ll say something and theres an awkward silence for a few seconds. Theres none of that with Noel.
Hi delitte12! If i'm right i think dustin hoffman and rod stewart were the other guests on this episode of parkinson. PLEASE opload the entire show with all 3 interviews!! (if you have them) I would be really grateful!
perhaps the finest interview to date? cant get more down to earth than that and would like to agre with everyones comments on this page - except a5987b
My good fellow, ever heard of the term less is more? That in my opinion, goes for oasis music too. However, you have your own opinion, which I respect of course.
