I consider Noel Gallagher to be jolly decent and very iconic and prolific . He's certainly amongst a small number of outstanding lyricists of his era. Of course it's entirely subjective and a matter of personal preference;; the fact that their is no definitive correct way to view a record/artist etc. is surely one of music's great beauties. My utterly irrelevant opinion is that Noel is right up there but not alone, alongside him with superb lyrical gifts are, for me, the hugely talented , eloquent wordsmith, Doherty ; Ashcroft with his rare skill at conveying universal truth and using music as a tool to shine a figurative light upon themes that he feels are socially relevant (Oh and that voice!) a nd (admittedly a fair few years younger is Sheffield's finest) Aex Turner who has a unique and distinct style of writing lyrics which manages to be paradoxically almost chatty in style whilst brilliantly breaking your heart unexpectedly with a killer line amongst the colloquial style. Love and peace to all.💙👌.
@Linda NiemkiewiczLike fuck. He whinged non-stop and was dead at 27 His much admired grunge is enough to make my ears bleed. Your opinion is of course aa damn well vauable as mine, I'm just a nobody on RU-vid. So Kurt for you. Fair play. My only thought is that he had no opportunity to mature... ergo; never had much time to develop. Examine Oasis’ back catalogue and Noels remarkable solo experimentaion. Folk romanticise a tragic loss like Cobain: Irrespective of whether he actually had talent.. Just my opinion.. Kindest regards to you; and indeed to all. Txx💙
Em ... D... C... and back to D.. Light strumming capo on 3rd fret standard tuning It just shows that simplicity is always key and sounds great ... look at the Beatles for example which Oasis admired soooo much
Sorry to hear about your mother man, I’m sure you’ve done her proud and keep your chin up mate. It’ll be tough, but you’ve no doubt got people in your life to support you through it.
I heard 'Live Forever', and I thought no song could beat it. Then I heard 'Cast No Shadow', and I thought no song could beat it. Then I heard 'The Masterplan', and I thought no song could beat it. Then I heard this, and it might just be the most remarkable song I've ever had the privilege of listening to. The instrumentals, the powerful vocals, the lyrics - an utter masterpiece. It brings me to tears almost every time due to its applicability to my own circumstances. Noel Gallagher, you are a genius. Thank you.
@@roisinmc7442 I've heard Talk Tonight (it's very good) but thank you so much for Dead in the Water. It flew completely under the radar due to the fact that it has only a live recording. It is utterly beautiful and I am convinced that there are no limits to Noel's genius.

I keep on running, but I can't get to the mountain Behind me lie the years that I misspent And I've been sinking like a flower in the fountain When all the love I'm gonna need is heaven sent Gonna try my best to get there But I can't afford the bus fare And the storm that's rolling over Man, it makes me wanna cry And I was told The streets were paved with gold And there'd be no time for getting old when we were young It's alright, if you dance with me tonight We'll fight the dying of the light, and we'll catch the sun I woke up sleeping on a train that was bound for nowhere Echoes that I could hear were all my own The world had turned and I'd become a stranger And I'm tired of watching all the flowers turn to stone 'Cause I try my best to get there But I can't afford the bus fare And the storm that's rolling over Man, it makes me wanna cry And the cold against my shoulder When it comes on the winter And it seems to last forever And it makes me wanna, makes me wanna cry I was told The streets were paved with gold And there'd be no time for getting old when we were young It's alright, if you dance with me tonight We'll fight the dying of the light, and we'll catch the sun Gonna try my best to get there But I can't afford the bus fare The storm that's rolling over Man, it makes me wanna cry And I was told The streets were paved with gold And there'd be no time for getting old when we were young It's alright, if you dance with me tonight We'll fight the dying of the light, and we'll catch the sun And the cold against my shoulder When it comes on the winter And it makes me wanna And the cold against my shoulder And it seems to last forever And it makes me wanna, makes me wanna cry
On that day, in that room in Dublin, Noel also played 'Dead in the Water', unbeknownst to him that he was being recorded. That same pianist was the bloke who winged it, capturing lighting in a bottle. The track made it on 'Who Built the Moon' with zero bells & whitstle. Pure magic.
Every year that passes, it becomes more and more clear Noel Gallagher is the last great musical genius. My and my thirty something buddies saw him live recently. It was emotional how amazing the concert was. Long live the legend that is Noel Gallagher.
+R Channe there's still great young songwriters like Ty Segal etc..but the age of rockstars is gone so u have to dig out good music. it's not really advertised anywhere.
I got into Oasis when I was a kid back in the mid 90s - 20 years on and he's still writing awesome songs - thank you Noel for all the good times, this just makes me remember why I got into Oasis in the first place!;)
I actually didn't rate Oasis at all when they released Definitely Maybe and didn't see what all the fuss was about until my mate sat me down and let me listen to 2 B' sides and Take Me Away and Talk Tonight and then i got it ;) One of the best songwriters in my lifetime :)
25 years since hearing Oasis , because someone said " tha Oasis brothers are Irish like You and Yer brothers and they fight with each other like You and Yer brothers".... decided to watch Oasis on tha telly , and see if Oasis were shite .... Liam was drinking a can of beer on stage and bantering with eejits in tha audience , life changing inspiration..... been singing , writing songs since 1997 beginning with hearing Oasis and seeing Liam's behavior which was kinda familiar .... Oasis ga Bragh
As a lyricist he's always been appreciated but holy crap! His voice is off the hook sublime as well! Of course I knew he could sing - he showed that with a few Oasis records where he sang lead vocals; but this is a different level of which prior too, I'd no clue of exactly what he was capable of vocally. Wow.
I never knew what happened with him, he fell off in the US after they broke up. So you can understand how mind blowing this is after I listened and oogled him. As a acoustic guitar player simplicity is amazing to me
I war's Withe a Girl in the middle of the Night..fucking pisst of....and i say to here.." Dance withe me Toniht"..now..my Life passt away..i am 54 now...💞💙💞
JirijuasMusic it's funny that the recording of dead in the water was used on the album. It's like he learned his lesson from over producing the dying of the light on previous album
The Rain also funny to think he had written it just a few days prior, and yet knew it well enough to play/sing it impromptu - - - while Liam still needs the lyrics for WONDERWALL placed in front of him. Not knockin Liam, just funny.
When Noel performs I just can't stop watching. I think to myself I'll put some NG on while I get some work done. Find myself sat here 20 minutes later and I haven't moved, just mesmerised by the singing and the lyrics.
This guy is the reason I can play the acoustic guitar. So simple yet so effective. Amazing ringing harmony he gets from the higher strings is something that’s always stuck with me.
its the capo on the 3rd fret if u know how to play "whatever" or "songbird" play them like the original then put the capo on and u will get a very similar sound
So... this is the session where he recorded "Dead in the water"... Such a biblical song. Instant favourite!!! Thank you guys at RTE2fm for keeping on recording!!!!
Probably true. It's not about selling records, or the fact that he's playing a guitar. He's the last person to have been at the head of a rock-band and somehow made it completely mainstream. There's many indy bands, but during 1995-1997, they were gods in hte music world. What I like about Noel today, is that he doesn't give a **** anymore. He's got absolutely nothing to prove. So he doesn't need to "cater to the Oasis-crowd" anymore. Personally, I like his new album allot more than the last couple of Oasis albums.
How does he come up with so many consistently beautiful vocal melodies? He couldn't have pinched them all. Irish blood carrying the notes from past generations
@@mcfch9625 Im Scottish , love Oasis, love Noels accoustic stuff and love Irish folk ballads.........I know how /why his songs touch your soul...Heritage.
@@mcfch9625 its a well known fact that the Gallaghers are Irish therefore the person who wrote the comment has mentioned this as their heritage as contributed to their musical talent & fantastic song writing.
This is way better than the album version. I don't know why does he add so much "pop-effects" on the album version of the songs. Same goes for Coldplay and Stereophonics. For example, listen to "Maybe Tomorrow", acoustic and album version. They are uncomparable.
I agree, altho the song laid bare like it is here is best understood by fans of Noel, fans who actually have some idea of good music and a wee bit of a brain. the album version has been produced to appeal to a larger audience, the younger market is the target for record labels now, they are the iPhone generation who still pay for music. I imagine that Noel will be advised to let the producers add a few pop bells and whistles, then wrap it up in a bow and market it to make money. the acoustic version is just for us, the Noel purists, the Noel fans
Just how I'm seeing it, but Noel in this looks like he's really enjoying doing the song. Like I'm looking back over acoustic sessions he did to promote the last album but here he seems way more comfortable, sounds spot on vocally and looks like he's really grown into doing these sorts of sessions. Cut me some slack, it's nearly 4am where I am right now.
"It’s alright, if you dance with me tonight We’ll fight the dying of the light and we’ll catch the sun..." Holly molly Noel Gallagher where's such inspiration come from?? I always cry when I listen to this version... Noel Gallagher's songs always transcend.
Up there with the Beatles mate, beautiful tune. Chasing Yesterday, his last LP, is a pinnacle so far in his career. I think it's a masterpiece. Everytime I put it on, I listen to it all the way through in one sitting, always. As one should, for it is to be savored like sipping a fine wine from the cellar.
Over 200,000 years humans have walked on this Earth. And we’re all here at the same time as Noel Gallagher. Edit: And Mikey Rowe takes ownership of this beautiful song, when he comes in on that piano.
Amazing. It’s like he has just written it and he is playing it in full for you. Even more amazing that Dead In The Water was recorded there on the day.
This isn't the only Great Song that Noel has put out since Oasis split. Dude's got an amazing voice with Much to say. I feel like this is still a beginning.
A God like genius by far the best track on the album this is noel Gallagher through and through he is living proof that you can come from anywhere and go through so much shit in life and still come out on top of the world
Dance with me tonight....we'll fight the dying of the light and catch the sun ....this reminds me of everything I ever thought was gold about the Gallagher brothers and entire Oasis era....thank you for the great song(s)
It's amazing to hear his songs broken down acoustically. Most of them seem complex but when played like this they seem simple. People often don't understand some the best songs are simple. Again most of his songs seem complex but they're relatively simple but still amazing.
