Quality shot of smelly's foot here. You can see how he slides /shuffles the double. I've been looking for a shot of smelly's foot work for like 30 years, was always a bit of mystery how he did it. Also notice his hihat pattern isn't just straight 16ths, he accents the guitar rhythms with it. the smelly fast beat is a thing of beauty. He only does like 5 beats, and 1 most of the time, it's kind of crazy that it never gets old.
Ah I see you are an apreciator of Smelly's right foot ! When we were younger with my bro we would joke that Smelly was able to win a race just by hoping on his right foot 😂
I'm not really a drummer, but I do play on occasion. While I don't expect to reach his speed soon, this video is a great showcase of his technique and inspires me to look into that instead of always relying on 2 pedals :D
