An iconic's rock masterpiece... I was a huge fan of Noir Desir, saw them a dozen times live, it always was an incredible experience in live, so much energy, the band always gave himself 200%, the vocal leader, the guitarist, the bass player, the drummer... 4 amazing talents who gave their all on stage.
Grew up in the us with my French dad always playing noir désir in the car. Their songs were all of my childhood and it’s awesome to see creators react to them
Hello again Dereck, I bought the "Tostaki" album when it came out in 92. I was 25! *Noir Désir* had become known shortly before thanks to their title *"Aux Sombres Héros (de l'amer)"* which can be traduced by *"(tribute) To the dark heroes (of the bitter)"* had been a huge success in the hit parades. *"Aux sombres héros (de l'amer)"* - This title is a double phonetic pun in French with the words: "sombres héros" (dark heroes) and "sombreros"*, the Mexican hat, and, "de l'amer" is again a phonetic pun since "de l'amer" (of bitter) and "de la mer" (of the sea) are pronounced the same way in French. That's when we knew we finally had a French rock group worthy of succeeding "Téléphone" (the group Télephone had stopped their career 7 years earlier, in 1986), and apart from *"Trust"* (another French rock band - even if its name doesn't indicate it, lol), *Telephone* had no heir. Here's a link for my translation of "Totaski" on the *Lyrics Translate website.* lyricstranslate.com/en/tostaky-everythings-there.html Now that you know a little better "Noir Désir", I suggest you to react to their biggest hit (more than 100 million views on YT) "Le vent nous portera" (The wind will carry us). Here you'll find the clip (beautiful and dark at the same time) and the translation of the lyrics in English: lyricstranslate.com/fr/le-vent-nous-portera-wind-will-carry-us.html-10 That's all for today, folks! * Whether for "héros" in the plural or for "sombreros" in the plural, in French, we don't pronounce the "s" placed at the end of the word which indicates its plurality.
Derek, I don’t know if you’re going to read this. I just discovered your channel and I like you! Thank you for sharing Noir Désir ❤️ Thank you for recognizing Bertrand Cantat as the amazing, charismatic, talented artist that he is ❤ His music saved me many times 🙏 He does a fantastic interpretation of Jacques Brel’s Ces gens là. I’m sure you could find it live. Every performance of Bertrand Cantat live is breathtaking! I will always love him; c’est mon préféré ❤🙏
Me too, but I especially like to see him caught up in the title to the point that he has trouble taking a break. Clearly he lives the thing and his joy is a pleasure to see (even if I think it is not the best live version). I hope he will react on other Noir Désir songs. He should also like the Mano Negra, but I must admit that apart from their most famous songs, I don't know much about them.
Je me trompe ?). 😉

OMG i was not expecting the dancing banana for Noir Désir
I remembered that guitar riff but completely forgot the rest of that "noir desir" track. What a slap in the live version.
The best French rock band of all time for me. Too bad a tragic event extinguished this energy. Noir Désir leaves us with a huge collection of rabid hits... Kisses from France. 🇨🇵
I met the drummer in Cambodia in 1990. We were in the same tour group on a day trip to Angkor Wat. Unfortunately, it would be another 7 years before actually hearing the band for the first time. I wish I could meet him again so that I could tell hime how much the band's music made an impact on me.
OMG ! How could I miss this RU-vid"s notification ??? I come here 3 days after and I"m thinking that noir désir is still one of the bigger French group whatever he did after, this group marked his time
One of the greatest French rock band ! Exceptional musicians, a charismatic singer who adored "Les Chants de Maldoror" of the poet Lautréamont (among others), which partly explains the prose of certain songs. Unfortunately the dream turned into a tragic nightmare. What a pity ... That doesn't take anything away from the quality of most of Noir Désir's songs and Tostaky is a fucking track that electrifies you from the first notes (like Nirvana "Smells Like Teen Spirit") and that doesn't let you go anymore. On a previous tour, the singer seriously damaged his vocal cords and his voice was not quite the same as before. I was completely unaware of this history of contraction "Todo esta aqui /Tostaky".
My top Song Noir Désir : - Tostaky - A ton étoile - les écorchés - Les persiennes - Si rien ne bouge - Le vent nous portera - Comme elle vient - L'appartement - Marlène - A l'arrière des taxis - En route pour la joie And the classic, l'Homme pressé, Aux sombres héros de l'amer ...Septembre en attendant, lolita nie en bloc, Ernestine ....... !
Hey Dereck. In your last video on L' homme pressé from Noir Desir, I told you that this band was playing a pure energy rock. See, I was right, i did'nt lie to you. From now, I can just encourage you to listen more Noir Desir's tracks and enjoying them. Proud to be à french Noir Desir's Fan.
“Holly crap!!! "React to some more Noir désir Dereck please !!! Noir désir was one of the best french band before the tragedy happened, to believe the band was well holding its name, "Funest desire !!! " Some more Noir désir also because I love to see your “bananas"! So funny! Your own reaction is also too funny! Bisous from 🇨🇵 ! 🗼🗼🗼 0
Cantat is surely guilty, but the others in the band aren't... We can't cancel this band completely because of the awful thing done by one of its member...
i was sure sooner or later you will do this one , this one of my fav. song with 'les ecorchés" , i m glad you liked it ! when i saw your reaction i felt like i was when i heard that song for the first time . plz for noir desir always take live version !
@@dieanalyste1143 OK........
The best song french rock in live all the time for me. I don't understand why this song isn't most knew in other countries. Cantat was the boss on the rock voice and scenique performance in the 90-2000's. The french Morrison. (look at the concert to agora d'Evry of 2002, it's magic). Just for the record, it's Cantat who realized the Tostaky riff and no "Sergio" Teyssot Gay. But without STG, Noir Désir doesn't exist. Thank you for this video.
I choose not to watch this reaction for obvious reason but i'm glad that you kept your freedom to do as you want. And it is very clear that reacting to this band doesn't mean that you don't condamn violence against women or anyone for that mater. Keep going my friend. Peace 💕
Yes iconic .We can just have regrets..who can condone violence? But they were the best French rock band ever...what a waste..You can try "Comme elle vient"
Best french rock band ever ? Well.. probably the best at his time, but there was Trust from 70's to 80's, Telephone was following, Mano Negra was great too... Noir Desir came was rock was died in France, so... they were the best with no competitors, but a real great band, true !
When you have real musicians playing live that's what happen, the guys live their song they are on fire. 20 years later they've made a live cover with Shaka Ponk and it's also very good. You can feel that everyone on stage is just out of his mind ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TVSJZ-x_ETU.html
Hey Dereck ! This band is from where I was in Highschool, north of "Landes" (below Bordeaux)... The singer has been "canceled", because he killed his "girlfriend"... But I have some of my musician friends playing with other band members of ND... It was a great band... A lot of skills lost with this sad story...
Let's not forget that the singer Bertrand Cantat killed his wife (Marie Trintingnant) by beating her up like an animal. Many women accused him of being a really violent man. This guy should still be in prison
And your motha ?
I think Cantat ( singer) has basque roots. Basque is a part of Spain and France and its an entity with its own cultural identity. And language.
They weren't one of the best French rock bands. At its peak it was the best. Just in number of albums sold he had smashed all the records, and by far! I had seen a documentary about them where people from French showbiz said: "But we had never seen that before!". It was a phenomenal success. As phenomenal as the fall..........
Hi Dereck and everyone, you should listen also some featuring of B. Cantat with Sixteen Horse Power band they are awesome.... NOIRS DESIRS original band name the best lyrics and music ever for French band
