Buy the fan motor assembly for this model here amzn.to/2YY1Cle
Its easier than you think to repair your refrigerator. One again your fridge will be quiet. The typical noise you get is a loud grinding or drilling sound when the fan motors bushings get worn out.

Excellent video, I just repaired my fan, but two things I did different: 1- I just took off the 3 screws in the back of the fan and the fan came easily, 2- I did not replace the fan, I cleaned the blades with soapy water (a lot of dirt) in order to have them balanced, then I add W40 to the little shaft and that was all. Cost of the repair $ 0,00., 20 minutes invested. But if not for this video I would not know how to deal with this problem, thanks Ghetto Wagon.

Yea the volume is a little echo'd out because I had to convert the video files! Its a easy fix! Fix appliances rather than buy new ones. I have seen my share of these fridges on the curb and were probably put there for this same failure.

Thanks for this tip! I cleaned the fan blades and sprayed WD-40 around the base of the fan shaft and the noise went away!

Just repaired my refrigerator. I removed the fan blades off the motor and cleaned it. Sprayed a little WD-40 on the base of the fan to the motor. Voila! The annoying fan noise disappeared. Thank you for the post and video!

I did the same and the noise went away for a month or so, now has come back. The wd40 he's for a while but if the fan has play on the shaft nothing much to do.

Hey there... this is a really helpful video to do your own fix... I did it my self, I have plenty time to do so...but this was done in about 1 hour... I bought this kits in amazon for about 60 box and fix my whirlpool refrigerator... love it...

Hey, thanks. I recently had a problem with major water leaks. I replaced the water inlet valve (to water dispenser and ice machine), which stopped one leak, then found out the drip tray was not only cracked, but the entire corner was missing. Replaced that and no more leaking. Now I am hearing a noise that sounds a little like a ratatat from drums. I will pull the fridge out and test the play on the fan. This looks easier than the previous fixes. Seems like when it rains, it pours with appliance problems. Nice to know many are easy fixes.

Yup, Easy fix! I was surprised. How much does the part cost now over 3 years later?

Best price at the moment is $50-$60 on eBay or Amazon. Can't beat it.

Would of been nice to hear the old fan buzzing noise too, so we can see if it matches what others are hearing.

Yea but when your fridge is inoperative you know it makes no noise at all.

Thanks so much for this video! My whirlpool fridge is making a lot of noise and it's coming from the motor where the fan is. I'm going to give it a shot and try and fix it. I can't afford to buy a new one. 😫 Is the new part working good still?
@GhettoWagon
@GhettoWagon 8 лет назад
+iheartmakup Yup, Its still quiet. Take out the fan motor to check the part number, match it up with a new one. You better fix it fast before your fridge starts running and you have to catch it. I hate getting that phone call

could be this fan the source of a high frequency and constant noise on a brand new Whirlpool refrigerator?
@gubroojatt
@gubroojatt 9 лет назад
Old or new .. Whirlpool fridges can be very loud. I bought it because it looked like good value and it was cheap, I regretted it later. I live in a studio apartment and it was so loud that it wouldnt let me sleep ... I got rid of it bought a similar capacity Samsung fridge ... even though it cost me comparatively more .. but I think its worth it .. it very quiet .. the build quality is so good and looks like alot of thought has gone into the design unlike Whirlpool .. So basically Whirlpool is cheap coz its shit.

Is the noise that you mention actually included in the video? I wasn’t able to hear anything. Mine is making a very high pitched whine and I’m wondering if this fan could be the issue or if it’s the compressor. Thanks!
@GhettoWagon
@GhettoWagon 2 года назад
See if your noise is coming from the back of the fridge by the fan. No I dont show the noise because it was so bad it would of damaged my fridge. This was not a whine just a loud rattle. If you don't know how to repair fridges dont mess with it

@@GhettoWagon ok got it thanks for confirming. I’m going to try and replace the condenser fan and motor.
@GhettoWagon
@GhettoWagon 2 года назад
@@piercefan3487 Usually if its the original fan the shaft on the fan motor will be very loose side to side that is what makes the noise they were failure prone The replacement part is a Panasonic fan much better quality

I have the same noise problem but also, my fridge isnt cooling. I replaced the condenser fan like you did in this video, but it didnt solve the problem, also my current fan is metallic. Can you suggest somethings to check on my own?
@GhettoWagon
@GhettoWagon 4 года назад
if the fan totally stopped working and you kept using the fridge maybe the compressor got too hot and burned up . Thermostat could also be bad. Maybe the evaporator fan inside the fridge is not working.

Do you need to remove power to the fridge prior to doing all this work? My fridge is making noise but it's not a constant, it comes and goes. Is that most likely the fan or something else?
@GhettoWagon
@GhettoWagon 8 лет назад
Don't do it if you want to wreck the compressor and maybe get your hand cut off. Ya unplug it
@TheSeancassady
@TheSeancassady 8 лет назад
Thanks, just wasn't sure if you could just disconnect the power to the motor and go from there.

Very good video... Thank you !!! HINT: My 5-yr Whirlpool Fridge ice maker started making a constant popping noise, but because I had raised the thermostat for cooling freezer from 3 to 5 inside the fridge. Next day I think the ice built up, and began a constant popping noise. I decreased the number back to 3 and now the noise stopped !! Is this the reason, or something is failing?
@GhettoWagon
@GhettoWagon 8 лет назад
Good thinking about the temp. No idea. I had to replace the icemaker in this fridge.

Amazon. Think I linked it in the description but CHECK your model number of the fridge inside then make sure you are selecting the proper condenser fan This fridge used to sound like a grinder.

Yea take the cardboard off and clean it. The condenser coils get really dusty. I believe Its best to blow them out from the back, to the front with compressed air. I think that's how I did it last time
