A bare-bones OS is the best argument in favour of any smartphone. By all means provide a decent factory-setup, but let users choose the apps they want and allow them to get rid of the bits they don't want. Most important of all is frequent firmware updates. That doesn't necessarily mean that every phone immediately should get the last version of Android, but that the steady stream of security and bug-fixes that go into the android-codebase should trickle out to the consumers as bi-weekly or monthly firmware-updates. The Android ecosystem should make it simple to provide frequent security-updates, but manufacturers and network operators have totally sabotaged that with their proprietary hacks to the codebase. Nokia have announced that they will make an effort to improve the situation and that is a very welcome move. Others such as for example Samsung keep turning out devices that are completely destroyed with garbage software. My current phone is a Samsung, but they will have to totally change their software policies to keep me as a customer in the future. The amount of mandatory but completely unwanted rubbish software has become intolerable, and the firmware has only been updated two or three times in the years I've had it. That is totally unacceptable. No handheld device with firmware older than 3 or 4 weeks should even be allowed to connect to the internet.

A little bezel goes along way to prevent accidental screen presses on the sides with the hand you are holding it in!

If only the original Nokia moved in this direction 5 years ago, instead of hooking their wagon to the MS crap fest AKA Windows Mobile. One of the worst decisions in the history of bad decisions. Of course it is too little too late now and in a saturated market flooded by brilliant well priced Chinese phones a cull is inevitable. Blackberry and Nokia are on the high risk list. At face value another nice phone lost in a sea of nice phones, little fan base, and now just a minor player well outside the big boys league. Shame as Nokia always proved very reliable compared to say the nightmare I have had with Samsung phones. Hopefully the Enterprise market will give it a lifeline.

A classy solid design. A stunning display. Immaculate build quality. Stock Android. Fast, regular updates. Very fast and reliable performance with no hiccups and slowdowns. Surprisingly great battery life. Decent color camera and a brilliant monochrome camera. This is a phone that just works and works very very well. It's a gem of a phone.

Unlike Samsung, I think Nokia phones will have better durability in the long run and I hope it will. Samsung's AMOLED displays are known to be a bit unreliable and they will start flickering green things on the screen. I already replaced my Samsung Galaxy S5 several times but the issue kept coming back. So far Nokia phones don't seem to offer many features at this time but their known reliability (for the most part) is what has always impressed me and on this being their big comeback to the smartphone market.

Great video Damir ! But I think Nokia phones are experimental for the moment , they are waiting to see if they sell good . They still have a lot to work on and they need to release a 6.0 inch for phablet lovers like myself , reduce the bezels as much as possible and they will do a great job. Waiting for next year to see what they can come up with.

I thought Nokia would place a couple of front facing stereo speakers on one of their phones,, disappointedly not. I'm still carrying my moto X pure,, and it may not be the fastest phone,, speakers and other features are what I like. When will the manufacturers give us the mid-range best of both worlds. Thanks

I remember a few years ago when 500 nits was considered excellent, now if a phone doesn't hit 1000 nits, it's considered subpar.

I got it a few days ago but have trouble with the volume up and down buttons. They are very stiff and hard to press and even harder/impossible to press when the phone has a case on. Do you have the same problem?

✍️,In my country Nokia 7 Plus and Nokia 8 (2017) very close in price and Honor View 10 is slightly higher please suggest me the best picks in terms of Camera performance, Multitasking and battery.

In my country we doesn't have the one plus or htc brands, only samsung, lg, nokia, sony, low end xiaomi, huawei and that's it, if we have Oneplus, for me, is a no brainer, is the best phone out there.

FYI, Nokia 8 is not the first phone to allow 4K video filming (as suggested in the video). Nokia Lumia 930 released in 2014 could shoot already very nice video in 4K (2160p) as soon as Windows Phone 8.1 Denim Update was released (in december 2014) thanks to its 20 Mpixels camera w/ Carl Zeiss lens. So that was.......Almost 3 years ago :=)

Well, I'm buying this. I was thinking of getting the LG G6 but I can get the Nokia for the same price right now. The newer chip and stock android with Oreo already out sold me on this. More storage as well.

Hi, did you know, in the UK this phone is now only £299. That to me seems to be the best bargain out there, at the moment.

Watched this video and ordered myself a Nokia 8. It's alright. Upgrading from LG G3 in a market that's been pretty level for the past few years, it's not a night-and-day difference. Even cheap 100$ Chinese phones work better than "well". In the end they all do the same things relatively quickly and smoothly, and Nokia 8 is no different. A stockish Android is annoyingly lacking in features, but that's not necessarily the phone's problem as much as it is Android's in general. What's an actual problem is that it's not an Android One phone, which means no real stock Android, and no Pixel/Nexus-like support and ROM development. Despite being an alright phone, Nokia 8 is barren of custom ROMs. The complaint about the buttons is lost on me. It was among the first things I checked on my phone once it arrived, and I could not find any issue with the power/volume buttons. They seem and feel fine.

I've been searching around for one on eBay but the 128GB model seems more difficult to find. I really want this phone because despite being 3½ years old, it's really the only viable option that fits my criteria of a normal-sized phone (less than 155mm in height) with IPS display, front or side mounted fingerprint sensor, 3.5mm headphone jack and 128GB storage. I hate all these new phones that are completely oversized (6.5" screen impossible to use comfortably with one hand) with those ugly notches, punchholes and rounded display corners. 🙄

Is the camera that bad as most people says ... I've read a lot of comments from users and almost everyone say's is a bad camera. I feel like it's more software issue than the actual camera specs.

The sad thing is Nokia was the first one offered the Android OS but the CEO at that time, probably the worst in history, refused. Nokia would be what Samsung are now. But, because I am a big fan of Nokia, I'm back the moment they started releasing android, been with Nokia through bad times too. Windows deal wasn't all that bad as I liked my Windows 8 that I upgraded to Windows 10, worked well with my Windows 10 PC too.

Hello Mr. Franc, I can get this phone for 460e. Thing is, I can also get the HTC U11 for 470e and, more interestingly, the HTC U Ultra for 290e (!). Is the overall quality of the Nokia 8 enough for me to pay that ~170e additional amount? Thing is, I'm coming from Lumia 535 and HTC Desire X... Old, budget phones. Even if I go for the Xiaomi Mi A1 (which is my budget option) I'll be satisfied. Thanks!

yeah I bought it and uesd it for a year. and now I bought another smartphone because I wanted one which has the camera better than this one. For me It was really good phone, reliable and I love Nokia phones. But I didn't like the camera. It was horrible...I loved so much other features.

If you are not happy with the sound download VLC up top right you can change the sound with Equalizer I put mine on POP the download speed is 90 MBPC faster than Samsung 8

Do you have a screen protector on? Is it necessary? I don't like the air bubbles that come with the glass screen protectors because the curved edge doesn't allow for the protector to sit evenly on the screen. I cant find non glass ones. So does the screen scratch easy?

Sony Xperia 10 review please, I'm looking at Nokia 8, Sony XZ2, HTC U11 and Mate 10. Wanna go for the Sony since it's the best overall phone, but the Nokia is more than 100 Euros cheaper. 250 E for the Nokia, 400 E for the Sony and others.

I just ordered it. Same color as yours. I dropped my S8 and the screen broke, so now i had an excuse to get rid of Samsungs bloatware and get a sturdy phone with stock Android. Was between this and the OnePlus 5T. Nokia 8 was 64 $ cheaper than the 64 GB version of 5T. This will survive a drop, the 5T won't i think
