I adore feature phones. As a young adult(21), I found myself becoming more and more addicted to my phone. So I decided to buy a feature phone. I keep my older smartphone in my room and usually, I do not take it with me anymore when I go to classes or outside in general. KaiOs have a lot of potential and it's a matter of time to see this system perfect. I see myself using a feature phone while studying so my mom or dad can text me or call me if they need me. I feel better now since I don't waste my time with banal content. I also improve my conversations since I don't check my phone so often while having a face-to-face conversation. Social media almost destroyed my attention span. I think I'm being a bit dramatic. But I can confidently say that this type of phone will be the most suitable option for those who are struggling with ADHD, phone addiction, or just want to live more in the real world.
You are a very sensible 21 year old 🙏👍, this is what lead me to get this sort of phone initially and I am very impressed with what you have done. Thank you for taking the time to share.
Thanks re the video 😊. Regarding WhatsApp I agree I don't think it's a big issue but it is an issue I can't work out how to fix. Although I could have tried harder to fix it if I really needed too. Thanks for the comment 👍
Good review, good that you split the review into clear parts. I like that. My second phone is now a Nokia 105 but it's only 2G and that disappears next year her in Holland. Ans i miss whatsapp, so i think about this one or the 225 4G.....but bugs, i don't know yet. Keep it up!!
Thanks 👍, hopefully before you need to change your second phone there might be some new ones to choose from. The Nokia 8000 is fine but .... I would, like you, like a less buggy more reliable phone. 🤞
Good review! Im using it since last week. The design is very cool, but in my opinion, it is quite big. Looked a bit like those phones for old people. The drawback is that is not so well optimized, and it is laggy. Hope that it will be an update to make the phone faster
Hey, thanks for the comment, I didn’t go into this in any detail in the review because I thought it was just too geeky. The phone has a 28 nm processor the best smartphones are starting to work of 5nm processors. I think the truth is it is just under powered, I think if they put a better processor in it, it would simply be a better phone but that would of course increase the cost and decrease sales. Unfortunately I don’t think any software updates are going to truly not make this a laggy phone 😔.
@@AlexSamuels Yes, agree. But I was expecting more speedy phone. Just opening and exit whatsapp and then going to the main menu, email or just contacts takes time. And that is a bit frustrating. The good thing is that if I drop the phone I wont be stressed thinking that the screen could break😂
Here's hoping that software updates improve things🤞. Or that they can improve things in future phones at a cost that still allow you not to worry about dropping it 😂.
The simple answer is no, not very often. The reason is the glitches were just too much, just too annoying. I liked the minimalism but for me that has to come with simplicity that works glitch free and this doesn’t. I am considering the 8210 4G as it has a different OS. Re the audio quality it’s fine but I am not sure about hifi files as I didn’t try. I hope that helps. 👍
Thanks alot for the video. I mainly get this because i am so sick of "Only touch" phones. FxTec Pro 1 phone is the phone i want in the future but too expensive, it has buttons and all the goodies of a modern day android phone
best review so far on this phone! this phone could have been a bestseller if only they made it do Whatsapp well. Like the Chromebook, there should also be a Whatsapp-phone that is small like the nokia 8000.
I totally agree. I am sure it is complicated to make a phone, but this is one of those frustrating phones that I feel like if I was at Nokia, I could help make them make it that bit better 🙈. I know I could, by the way, but it feels so 15 years ago, which may be in a way is the appeal, but in a way, it defiantly isn't.
I have an 8110 4g and just use it for calls and it is really useful taking it camping or on holiday where you can still be contacted but only by text or call. I do think it is pointless in having all these features like whatsapp and youtube etc because it really is just a buggy mess. I used it for a year as a main phone and then went back to a smart phone. In my opinion these phones may be apealing at first but they are horrible to use apart from calls which is really where they are great. I would suggest getting a samsung A20e or A12 as a cheap useful phone that performs well, not forgetting android can run custom minimalist UI's if needed.
Hey, thanks for this comment and in a lot of ways, I think your right. However, in a way, the phone's unusability is an advantage and one of the things I appreciate most 😂. I have to say, although I have occasionally used the web browser to check sports scores, the main advantage of this phone is the 4g hotspot feature. Coincidentally my home ISP went down yesterday, and the hotspot proved so helpful. Hopefully, future iterations will make this phone better, but as good as I know the Samsungs would be, I will keep using the Nokia for the foreseeable future. It's a helpful comment thought; thank you for sharing 👍.
@@AlexSamuels Yes the hot spot is great and also google assistant and the some of the apps are okay. I still use mine as a main phone for calls, but have a smart phone with no sim so I can use Whatsapp, RU-vid and google apps. I usually have the Nokia on me whilst working though as it provides some useful features and no distraction. After 2 and a bit years of using the Nokia the battery performance drops but you can replace the battery unlike the latest smart phones. It would be interesting for you to do an updated long term review on this phone in the future!
@@SlotCar2021 Thanks for your response with more detail; it sounds like you use your phone in the same way I use mine 👍, with a sim free smartphone fixing the gaps. I was thinking yesterday that a longer-term review might be interesting as I had only used the phone for a couple of weeks when I did this review. I appreciate your comment and ideas 😀.
I have a query about this phone if u have any ideas everyone that rings me on it comes up unknown caller I’ve moved contacts from sim to phone and still the same wondering do u have a fix for this
Good phone for that absolutley, that’s why I got it, I think it would be a great phone if it wasn’t buggy. I still want a smooth experience in my digital detox 😂. Great comment 👍
It's really a shame that there is no any quite effective feature phone on the market. Almost all of those that are available have some sort of issues. Back in those years feature phones were better. But I must agree with you; this definitely looks like a good detox phone. Despite those bugs that you listed. It costs 100€ at the moment here in Croatia (which I think is still a high price for a phone like this), but mainly because of smartphone detox I will probably buy it. In summary, it still has some vital features, especially the hotspot. And the style is ok. Thanks for the video. I appreciate it.
Thank you for the comment and for sharing your thoughts 👍. It's a shame it's not discounted because I know it's been on offer over the past few weeks in the UK (pre Christmas sales). Hopefully, you will manage to get it on offer at some point, but if not, I hope it works well for you 😊.
I find the pictures taken by the camera to be quite "okay". From an old-school point of view (meaning that I do not intend on zooming in NCIS-style, and it can be printed and it looks well enough). On a screen it's a bit grainy but not too much. I might be biased. My previous phone was a Nokia N86 and it was becoming quite laggy (more than this phone), buggy (more than this phone) and taking pictures with the 8 MP was getting difficult because I had to remain very still otherwise the photo would be rubbish. I guess the Symbian OS was beginning to "self-destruct" (it even stopped alerting me of new SMS, I had to manually check). And let's not talk about browsing the Internet. It almost wasn't possible anymore... So all in all the 8000 isn't perfect but compared to what my previous phone had become it's a lot better. I love the fact that you can use voice recognition for almost everything especially typing messages. I might be the minority but I don't like "touch" devices so I'm always searching for a modern phone with "old form-factors".
It might be a minority view but it's a very useful perspective 😊👍. TBH, it's a bit of an education for me as I was coming from a 2019 flagship smartphone I didn't view the 8000 in this way. Thank you for sharing.
@@AlexSamuels I can understand it can be a little "shocking" to "downgrade" to the 8000 coming from a recent "touch"-flagship! The 8000 is far from perfect. Thank you for what remains a fair review. I think everyone can decide if it's "acceptable" enough or not for him/her. But for those looking for modern phones in an old form-factor, I think it remains one of the best options.
@@AlexSamuels thank you very much for your answer. And that helps alot because im all aboout listening to RU-vid with the screen off. Both to save power, but also so i dont accidentally press skip or something like that, in my pocket.
You said you use Whatsapp web, how do you connect this phone to a whatsapp web, does it have QR code reader? I am asking this because I cant connect my Nokia 8110 4G banana phone to a Whatsapp web. Thank you!
Hi Jovan, sorry for any confusion; I kept my old smartphone which had WhatsApp on it. That did not need a sim in for Whatsapp to work, so I keep that on and connected to WiFi, and then I can access WhatsApp web wherever I want on a computer or iPad. (you do need to connect that device first, as you know, with the QR code, but then it works well). I could never get WhatsApp to work on the phone. I know it's a bit of a hack, I hope that helps.
i want a feature phone with WhatsApp for public transport like having a smartphone in the metro during rush-hour is a torture and also not safe. someone might rob your ass but i feel like this is a little to expensive. if it was made out of metal and had a track pad i would have bought it asap but its fucking plastic with that old pad for navigation wish blackberry bold 5 still worked man i loved that thing
If I had the resources and programming knowledge, I'd make my own phone. I'd call it the DeLightPhone and it would NOT have an internet browser or additional apps. It will however have WhatsApp built in, as well as 10 games, a DAB+ radio, 2 cameras, music player and other essentials built in!
Sounds good to me 👍, let me know if things change and you gain the resources and programming knowledge 🤔. Or maybe, I might but a few more Nokias' when they get realised (review them) get several thousand more subs and hope Nokia come to me and ask me what the people want, I can then reach out and introduce you. Just watched your Nokia video from last year it was very good and almost ahead of its time. 😉
My ophthalmologist recomended me to minimise smartphone phone use ,so iam thinking of getting this phone because it has whatsapp..btw do u have any idea when it will launch in india?
You mentioned at 4:10 that you use whatsapp on the web to circumvent the T9 typing issue - can you confirm that the whatsapp app on this feature phone is able to link to whatsapp app on a computer browser? Thanks in advance!
So I linked it from my smartphone and never transferred WhatsApp to this phone. I keep my old smartphone connected to WiFi and it works without the sim card. It's a bit of a hack and probably not the answer you want 🙈.
Thanks for the review Alex, much appreciated. I recently bought a Nokia 8000 4g and am reasonably happy with it. Do you know if you can use the loudspeaker during phone calls? I can't see how to do it and I did a websearch and couldn't find anything. I could not agree more about the fact that it would be great if Nokia would put more effort into making a really great feature phone. I had a Nokia C5-00 before this phone and I really miss the smaller size and far superior build quality of that phone compared to the 8000 4g. However, I bought the 8000 for the 4g and the hotspot and that works great and means I can avoid getting sucked into buying and spend too much time on a "smartphone". Thanks again
Thanks Brad for the comment, absolutely you can use the loudspeaker when making calls. For the when I'm on the call the centre button that says call then has a picture of a speaker on it. You press the main centre button when on the call and it puts the speaker on and off. 👍. Hope that helps 😊🤞
@@AlexSamuels Thanks Alex. I had tried pushing that button before but because it then changed to a speaker symbol with a cross next to it I assumed that it was a mute button. Just tried it again now and it works great. Cheers, Brad
In theory, it should be, and it does work as a 4g mobile modem, but I have sometimes found it a bit hit and miss. Personally, I would go for a cheap smartphone instead if the portable modem is the primary purpose.
I don’t own the Nokia 6300, but from what I have seen practically they are very similar but the Nokia 8000 looks and probably feels a bit nicer but the Nokia 6300 is probably better value. I hope that helps.
Hi Alex I’m interested in purchasing this phone but the issue of utilising WhatsApp might be an issue for me what do you think will be a good solution for this? I think I’m just going to have to constantly switch the Sim out from the Nokia phone and into an iPad for Whatsapp to work on the keyboard for me...
Hi Newaz, this was the biggest thing for me to work out also. The workaround I use has left me in a better position than I was before. If you are using a smartphone currently connected to WhatsApp, my advice is to keep it connected to WhatsApp. The smartphone will need to be connected to WiFi, but if it is, you can access WhatApp's web app on any device anywhere (you do not need a sim card in the phone that is connected to WhatsApp). So you can use it on your iPad that way via the web. If you need to call using WhatsApp, they are just releasing that feature on desktop apps. techcrunch.com/2021/03/04/whatsapp-rolls-out-voice-and-video-call-support-to-desktop-app/. This idea might sound crazy, but if you don't have a smartphone, I would actually buy a cheap one to connect it to WhatsApp and then use it as a hub. I only say that because I use the Nokia 8000, so I don't have to have my smartphone on me 90% of the time. I still use my smartphone for things like WhatsApp because swapping sims would be a pain when the web app is so good. Importantly I don't think WhatsApp works on an iPad, even with a sim in anyway. www.macworld.co.uk/how-to/whatsapp-ipad-3636728/#:~:text=There's%20no%20official%20WhatsApp%20app,send%20messages%20from%20your%20tablet.&text=The%20sad%20thing%20is%20that,iPad%20(or%20iPod%20touch). I know this isn't the most straightforward answer, but it does work for me, and I hope it helps.
@@AlexSamuels So, I don't know all the details (I don't use Whatsapp) but it seems that a few days ago it received an update and that it is now possible to do WA voice calls on the 8000 4G.
@@denis480 Thanks Denis, I just tried, and I still can't get WhatsApp to work on the Nokia 8000, but at this point, I am pleased. I can access WhatsApp so easily on the web, and for me, not using WhatsApp on the phone is a benefit, not a drawback. Ironically, I got this phone because it could do a bit more, but the only feature I occasionally use is the 4g hotspot.
@@AlexSamuels I guess my situation is even more ironic: I like being able to do more things with this phone than with my old phone. Most useful apps to me so far: - Facebook - K-Music (music player that remembers where it stopped last time and automatically resumes ; plus can play your audio files by folder) - RSS Reader (checking some news headlines) - PodLP (listening to my favorite podcast once a week without downloading it) - PhoneCopy (synchronizing my contacts/data only when I want, and faster than with Google ; plus my data stays inside the European Union)
@@denis480 😂, thank you as ever, Denis, for helping me appreciate that people can end up in the same place but from 2 completely different directions and have a completely different perspective. I would say that this phone has taught me a lot more about myself and the world than any other piece of technology has, and your last comment is part of that learning 👍.
The battery on the phone isn’t great while using it but the standby time is quite good. I can drain the phone in a few hours just by making calls and having the hotspot on. That being said the hotspot is a very useful feature in a pinch, I suppose you can’t have it all at this price.
@@AlexSamuels I guess that's not totally unexpected and probably quite impressive given the battery size. One last question, is there a way to import contacts from an email service? Coming from a smartphone all my contacts are backed up on my Gmail account. Being able to import would be incredibly useful rather than having to transfer to the sim card before hand
@@Javadamutt Yes, you can import from Gmail as that is exactly what I did. However, I had a lot of legacy and duplicated contacts and it said there were too many. But yes it can be done. 👍
Technically yes (and I have used it to do that), in my experience practically it can be a bit frustrating as the software can sometimes just be a bit sluggish. Most of the time it will work though, but not as reliably as a smartphone.
@@AlexSamuels a smart phone is a completely different kettle of fish Kaios,, is a minimalist operating system on a minimalist hardware it does not have quad cores or gigabytes of RAM
So I think the answer is yes, I have been using it as my primary phone for three months, and 90% of the time, I am pleased with it. The con is the software can be a bit slow at times. But I dropped it badly the other day (it would have damaged a smartphone badly). There was not a scratch on this; there are definite pros too. If you can live with slower software than a decent modern smartphone, this is a decent phone for the money. If you want to save money depending on your use case, you can get a similar phone with the Nokia 6300. I hope that helps.
@@AlexSamuels thank you so much sir. I appreciate your work. But I have another question. Doest it look so premium in real life ? And does it get scratch or finger prints easily while using or contain it on out pants or jeans ?
@@shafayatulislamfahim8906 I think the answer to all your questions are no, it does not look as premium in real life I was disappointed at first (I’m over it now😂). But as part of the not looking premium scratches or fingerprints are not an issue. Can’t have it all I suppose 🤔.
Hey, it's a great question, and I would love to know, but I can't get WhatsApp to work on the phone. I use WhatsApp and have tried a lot of times to get it to work.
You're right, Kevin 😂, not a significant thing it just bugged me 🙈. However, in my defence, regarding buying it in the first place, how would I know unless I bought it in the first place 😉. I put this review up because I could not find a decent review at the time. You could argue that me putting this up did not change that fact, and there were still no decent reviews 🤔😂
haha oh that sucks. i want a phone that can download snapchat & messenger bc they're the only apps i use to txt ppl bc i dnt use a sim card. cud u recommend a phone for me? i literally don't care abt anything else. i jus dnt wna use my tablet all the time lol.
@@kaela420 It might be a might much but I just got a great deal on a google pixel 4a which I think is great for the money and would work but it's like 4 times the price of this phone. Aby smartphone should work though, you can get really cheap ones I just don' have any cheaper than the pixel 4a.
@@AlexSamuels so funny u mention the pixel phone bc am watching reviews on the google pixel 6 pro 😂 never heard of the 4a. thanks for the recommendation. if any smartphone would work, maybe i should get a samsung galaxy s3 or something. 😂😂
@@kaela420 ok clever clogs 😂, I shall be more specific 😜, any smartphone realised in the last year or 2. Not one that is about to be a decade old 😂. The pixel 6 pro looks good but might be overkill for what you need 😉. I got the 4a though mostly because I wanted a cheap small phone that was a smartphone.
Personally I don’t think so, although a couple of people have commented that they prefer a T9 keyboard layout to touchscreen. Unless you are specifically looking to type fast on this type of layout I would say no.
I looked into this a bit more and tested it out this evening there is one app on the app store which plays podcasts it seems to work ok 😊👍. Thanks for the question as I think I will use the app.
I hate texting on KaiOS devices Nokia feature phones, it's horrible...that was one of the most important thing on a keyboard phone. It's so impossible to produce a simple, fast and well made phone?? what is wrong with this world?? They don't give a damn about texting, just app, fast internet, bla, bla...that was the main idea to escape from apps and internet...my God...
Agreed 👏, before existed smartphones, there were some quality feature phones, lots of choices now this is about as good as it seems to get. It feels like such a backward step, is there not a market for that type of phone? People will spend $12 on a nophone; surely, there is a market for a decent feature phone.
Thanks, Laurence, really interesting comment, I never looked at it as too big because it was so much smaller than what I was using but I think it's a very valid point 👍, thank you for sharing.
Hi Shalom, I know it’s not available everywhere but in some regions like the US they do have a link on the Nokia website to sign up and they will let you know when it’s for sale. Depending on where you are you might also be able to order it from Amazon from another country.
@@AlexSamuels I checked in all enable options....and some of them take expensive price....but most of the sites told that it still not available... except some of them, and Amazon, there its enable only with black or white colour... Thanks you answer me
That's a decent review my dude, and not cutting NOKIA any slack. They need to improve these, and I wish they stopped making smartphones and concentrate on getting the feature phones right. If they put all their energy in making excellent feature phones, some people like me would have no reason whatsoever to have a smartphone at all.
👏, couldn't agree more; the smartphone is so competitive, there is a market to make feature phones the best they can be and create more demand and dominate a market that they create. It says a lot that LG have just announced they are pulling out of the market. Thanks for the comment.
Yea man, wtf is Nokia doing? Noone cares about their smartphones, and they are famous for making really good basic phones back in the day, if they would just concentrate on it they would easily get back to the top in that market very quickly. Yet they try to compete in one of the most competitive markets in existence. Someone needs to get fired
@@AlexSamuels I think it's important to remember that Nokia doesn't actually make phones anymore. They sold the division to Microsoft who sold it to hmd. The Nokia logo is basically just a listening deal they get royalties through. Nokia is still a great company, its just focusing more on the next gen infrastructure than the phones themselves. I recommend the stock for 6g development btw
@@walteriansims Whereas I understand the history of Nokia mobile, I was a Nokia Windows phone user back in the day and was severely disappointed with the opportunity Microsoft wasted. But everything I have read about HMD Global should be positive; they are based in Finland and have lots of ex Nokia employees, but unfortunately, the truth is (IMHO) Nokia lost its way in the smartphone era. HMD Global is the continuation of the Nokia Mobile that hasn't found a niche in the modern mobile landscape. I am writing a more extended response because it's a subject I care about, but in a world where LG pulled out of phones last year, Sony is struggling, and HMD Globals revenue halved from 2.4 billion Euros in 2018 to 1.2 billion Euros in 2020 I don't know how the brand is going to continue and that makes me sad (I need to get a life 😂). But while Nokia still exists selling smartphones and or feature phones, a bit of me is still going to hope that they will come up with some products that will change their fortunes 🤞. Thank you for a great and insightful comment, BTW 👍.
Finally an English review of this phone! I’ve just picked one of these up as a spare device, it’s very basic and quite slow but does all I need as a back up phone.
Hi, thank you for your comment. I think unless they put a more powerful processer in the phones I think they are going to struggle but like you say I hope they keep on working on it and making it better.
I own this phone for calls and texts. I love the call quality and i prefer texting with t9. I used to own a smartphone and I could never get to grips with texting on a touch screen plus the phone was just too big and expensive. So it is nice to now have an option to text with a physical number pad. I choose this phone for its access to e-mail and wifi which was not an option on my Nokia 105. As a communication device this ticks the box for me.
Hi Ms Terrazzo, great summary, I am learning that lots of people prefer to write with a t9. The call quality is really good and I am pleased the phone is working well for you 👍.
Thanks for this. I am this weird guy using a Nokia 301 since 2015 (I had a smartphone between 2011-2013 or something like that, never went back), but it's really getting problematic to not be able to use 2FA and similar. I totally agree with you, T9 rocks once you get used to it. It's just the phone that could restrict you if it is too slow. This is what I am worried for with the KaiOS phones...
@@jockeberg4089 Hi Jocke, you raise a really good point re 2 FA. I wonder if a device like an iPod touch would be a useful device to work all the 2 FA stuff while giving all the benefits of the simpler phone. I still run all my 2FA stuff through my Samsung note 10+ sim free, but that is expensive if you don't already own it.
@@AlexSamuels I love my 8000 but I can't lie and say it is bug free. There are issues with the t9 (why in 2020/2021), but the benefits of not using a touch screen outweigh the bugs. I also look forward to any software updates. KaiOS is evolving and looks promising though. 2FA can be an issue but I do have an android tablet which I use when I am around the house. It is just that when I am out of the house I just want a simple phone for messaging. It is good to see there are options outside the boring touchscreen smart phone.
@@msterrazzo6967 To be honest, I think this phone will always have bugs, but I am hopeful that Nokia can improve in future iterations of this phone. Although I would not say this phone is cheap at the same time upgrading to a future, hopefully better, version is affordable compared to a smartphone too.
Thank you, I assume they are just limited by the price. There can't be a great deal of profit in this device. I would happily pay more if all the extra went into a better device.
I was about to buy this... I'm sick of smart phones. I'm done with dropping a thousand pounds a year on phones. This one looked nice. After seeing this vid it looks like an absolute ripoff for 80 quid. Tha is for uploading.
Hi David, thanks for the comment, I think your right for £80 it is completely overpriced, there is a 6300 for like £60. I have to say though coming from the £1,000 club myself you could buy 12 of these and have change left over. I have kept my Samsung Note 10 + sim free, and I use this daily with my sim in it. I now feel like I don’t need to upgrade my smartphone; this combination will save money. However, if you are saying, this phone looks good in the promo pics (because it does) and like a cheap bit of plastic in my video (and in reality), I would say that’s a very fair assessment of the situation.
@@AlexSamuels I'm excited to ditch my s20 ultra with its cracked screen and get a candybar phone like this... I'm trying to find one with a nice metal build though to no avail. Do you have any recommendations? For conetent I'm going to grab a tablet of some description for scrolling at home in bed etc, but for day to day I'm sick of carrying around these tiny pieces of glass and metal that are so expensive and so easily broken.
So here is my take on it, I want the candy bar phone you want. I would personally pay more than £80 for it, but I guess the market is too small as I think this phone will mostly be sold in South East Asia so this is where the market is at the moment. I expect Nokia will improve on this type of phone (at the margin) in 2021 and 2022 and I will probably go crazy and buy another phone that improves on this when they have it on offer. But, I think I am trying (and slowly succeeding) to find the learning in all this. As a utility, this phone is fine (just about), but it is just a phone. I am honestly happier with this phone, and it's quirks than just waiting for and hoping Samsung create an excellent Note 21+ Ultra. P.S. my view on tablets is if you're looking for the best tablet experience get an iPad (I could not make the Nokia work for me without it). If you're looking for something a lot more extreme try an Onyx Boox product, like the Note Air. I am sorry I cannot recommend the phone we are both looking for. If you do a better job of finding it, please let me know, and I will happily get it. 😊
Good review. I am an estate agent and just need a mobile to make and receive calls. Emails I can deal with on my laptop or tablet. I don't do text or what's app or social media. What turns me off this phone is the software being buggy and the fact it needs a full charge every day. I'm not going to go for it but will try the new 6310.
Hi Carolyn, thank you for your comment. I would be surprised if they release a new version of the Nokia 8000 in 2021 as they have not yet managed to do a full global rollout of the 8000 that has just been released at the end of last year. It does look like they will release a new version of 2720 soon and more significantly than a hardware upgrade it seems like they will have a software update in 2021.
Hi Julio, you have a Web browser so might be able to shop that way but in terms of apps not really. This link: www.kaiostech.com/store/ might help you see what's available, I hope that helps. 👍
Thanks for this video. It has been immensely helpful. So it sure looks like any phone using Kai OS should be avoided. I just watched another video which reviewed Nokia 6300 and the same super slow laggy issue was reported there by many viewers in the COMMENTs section. Thankful for the feedback from those who have used the phone and reported the strengths and flaws as they really are. The feedback will help others to make informed choices. Thanks to everyone who shared their experiences.
Thanks; helpful 🙂 I've always used Feature 'phones, & prefer button keys, but not sure about this smooth keyboard. Pity you can't delete unwanted apps; I just want text, call & WhatsApp [Maybe Snake, tho' it can't surpass the 2610's Nature Park!]- wonder if W'app is an issue with all 8000? Thanks for the clean-up tip; I tend to do that anyway when bored, but I love the pattern background; '800 Tough has a less exciting green tick screen 😂 & no emojis in the texts.. 😲
skip >> 3m44s TXT ,, " thats where this falls down " since both the 8000 & 6300 have KaiOS & Google assistant + 4G,, you can DICTATE messages ,, no more typing!! you have tried this ?
Hi Matthew, In theory your right and yes I have tried it, but the software and processor are the issue. It works fine sometimes, but more often than not it doesn't 😔 (in my experience). To the point where it's my default not to try it to get frustrated and have to type anyway. As with your previous comment though I think it's helpful to point out and I really appreciate you taking the time to write it 😊. Thank you 👍.
@@Tweaky853 Hi, it's a great point, I would loved to have gone into detail about kaios. Re the quadcore processor I assumed most people buying this phone don't care about the processing power, and quadcore makes it sounds more powerful than it is, it's got a 28 nm processor I would love a better processor in this phone. I really appreciate your feedback though and your kind words. Thanks 😊
Thanks, Mohammad, that is a lovely proverb. Although I think in this case, the baker might have retired and licensed his name to a younger, less experienced banker who is just reheating frozen bread 😉.
That's a great question, so this phone won't get updated to 3.0 because it says on the KaiOS website, "Important: Older devices running KaiOS 2.5.4 or lower can't run the new KaiOS 3.0 version". I also wouldn't hold out any hope for performance upgrades on these phones. Regarding the 8000 or 2720, I went for the 8000 because it is newer and has a more powerful chip; I think you should be ok with either, but I would go for the 8000 because of the increased power (not that even the 8000 has much of that). I hope that helps. P.S. it will be interesting to see when Nokia starts making devices that use KiaOS 3.0. 🤔
I have watched video about Nokia 3210 4g but it doesn't have kaios so that is not nice, however now Nokia 8000 will be my favorite phone with 5ghz wifi and 4g, hope can buy new one in 2024
Just came across your review... although it's now 2+ years late, it's still the most honest in reviewing a basic phone.👍 How's it holding out so far? Did you get the (4g) 8210 or something better? Really miss the classic Nokia's of the 90's... those where better days then. Smartphones nowadays are getting so Ridiculously toxic. What with prices going ever sky high & these damn tech - wise updates that feels more like countdown timers that never ends.🤔 Still using the Samsung Note 8 & 9 (imo, still the best looking phones) but after these, the smartphone bus for me stops.😶 Please let us know if you find another "good" Nokia Call/Text basic phone, would like to hear it soon. So, here's to more great reviews!👍😎🍻
I might get a Nokia KaiOS phone as my next phone after nearly a decade and a half of iPhoning. Why? I hear Apple might kill the charging port with the next iPhone and it won’t be long before Android phones follow suit. MagSafe only connects via USB-C, which my laptop doesn’t have!
Hi interesting thought, and I'm sure it will happen 🤔, but Apple will probably still sell older models that they sell today for maybe the next 4/5 years. Would you not just buy one of those that still works for you? It's a big jump for a different charging cable.
He just remind me of a school teacher thats disappointed at whatever you do, but somehow decides to pass you at the end out of pity. Bare pass through. And a dismissive wave at the end, to leave his office.
😂, I'm not sure if that's a compliment or an insult 🙈. It does remind me of being a student though, a pass is a pass at the end of the day 😊. I will work on being less school teachery 😉.
@@AlexSamuels haha definitely not an insult, I found the video very informative. I didn't expect a lot of the functions to be that poor. Even though it's a dumbphone, I thought that 2 decades on, even a dumbphone would have improved, it almost felt like they were using chips from 1998. I think your style is great, teach !
@@hsianloon I have to say I thought exactly the same when I looked at dumbphones it feels like they have gone backwards definitely in terms of quality. I think there is just no money / margin in these devices anymore for manufacturers to invest. I want to say maybe it's what we need at times less progress and more being content with simplicity that works. I would say that if the os wasn't so slow and I could always just make calls and texts on it 😂.
Nice review, but I think you smartphone users don't quite get why some of us old duffers want feature phones. We don't really care if they are a bit slow. We just want something we can put in out pocket without worrying about cracking the screen, and that will last weeks without having to charge it. That's what these feature phones give us. Having said that, I do wish a someone would make one a bit more premium looking, with a screen with smaller borders.
I think you're totally right Jon. My issue is like you said this could just be a better feature phone. The latest Nokias now have different software which I haven't tested but I hope is simpler and more reliable 🤞. Thank you for taking the time to comment 🙏
Hi Matthew, I think you make a very good point 👍. However I would like to say 2 things regarding that comparison, firstly it is just a comparison it's not that I didn't expect that difference it is just the comparison I had to hand. But I also saw it a little differently, I think the Samsung was one of the best smartphones money could buy when I got it. The Nokia 8000 was the same, one of the most premium candy bar phones I could find. Honestly I would have paid more for a better product, better build, processor, display and even camera. Really there is no premium candy bar phone market anymore which I think is a real shame. So as ridiculous as the comparison might seem, in my head I am comparing the best I can find in one catogary of phone to the best I can find in another. I don't know if that helps 😂, and it doesn't take away from your comment which I think is helpful for people to read 👍.
when i was a feature phone nokia user before i can do a typing with single hand only without looking at keyboard or screen for whole sentence. because of finger memory..... when i was using keyboard i can send text for 500-1k for about 24hrs of usage.. that why we pilipinos is most top capital texter in the world.. ..is easy to use that feature phone as back up phone ..
@@AlexSamuels way back when i was teenager .i prefer texting than chatting.. i had 5-10 texter a day .. which our sort of communication is texting only for a whole day.. .. but now since the internet is stable i prefer chat through fb.. feature phone is easy to use its keyboard when u master it rather than qwerty .. because qwerty keyboard cannot do a single hand.. and cannot do a finger memory without looking into the screen while typing..
@@princeaj2076 I think your absolutely right and make a very good point about how easy it was to use a feature phone to text once you got used to it 👍.
Hi Kiran, I read that it was available too 👍, unfortunately and I have tried a few times today I just can’t get WhatsApp to work at all. That is not saying this feature does not work and I know WhatsApp works on this phone for others. Sorry I can’t be more help.
No unfortunately not, day to day I have given up on the phone as much as I want to use it as my daily phone I found the compromises to big 😔. No one individual thing but this is just not the phone I want it to be if that makes sense. Personally I would pay more for a better feature phone but I don't think there is a big enough market of people who would. Sorry for the answer and the slight rant 😂
T9 typing makes it fast to type, so texting quite a bit shouldn't be an issue. If it is, then just make a phone call. I'm ditching my smartphone for a Nokia 6300, tired of being on my phone all the time.
