I've been following your channel for a long time, and also I've been following HMD's progress on the market (I used Nokia 3, 5, and 6.1). After a great experience with a Xiaomi device I recently switched back to Nokia, this time G21. I really hope HMD succeeds and carves itself a piece of smartphone market since I love their approach to making smartphones!
I also have the Nokia G21! My old Nokia 8.1 got damaged with too much water, my favorite phone! I bought the G21 as a cheap replacement, and it works pretty well! I would not pay more than $400 with a phone which lacks a 4K camera like the Nokia 8.1 had. Maybe Nokia can come back with something in 2024? I cannot see anything that's more worth it's price than the G21 coming from Nokia so far. I paid $180 for it, which isn't bad at all, in my opinion.
In India they released 4 months after the global realease and priced it expensive among all markets which made it the direct competition for pixel 7,one plus 11, galaxy S21 FE and S22 😑
Yeah I don't know what Nokia is doing with the pricing. It's a tough sell even at 30k but 50 is where no one in their right mind would consider this device. Especially since you can get an iPhone for the same price in sales.
Nokia deserves to die. Who do hmd think they are with those prices? It's good that the market decides the fate of products and not the so-called 'trust' of Nokia. This phone does not deserve even a single unit sold
HMD is still in the works, there is still room for improvement in several aspects, the Nokia X30 is a good device, but the high price keeps away many buyers who find better options at a lower price, HMD needs to launch a more premium intermediary, with more aggressive specifications, and to solve their logistics problem, which is very precarious, HMD needs to deliver more in its launches, stereo speakers for example, just the Nokia name and focus on sustainability will not increase sales. A hit on the X30 was the size of the screen which is very comfortable in the hands. HMD needs to focus on a model and deliver the best specs and improve their logistics, a faster availability for sales.
Today, I sent my X30 for service. I was having issues with the loudspeaker - the volume was fading away after a while but was "reset" after pausing the app. I suppose the service crew will just switch out the loudspeaker for a new one. I guess that'll fix that issue. And then there's the difference in colors between 60hz and 90hz refresh rates. It's so annoying! The best thing about the X30 imo is the battery. Maybe that speaks for itself. :P
Ive had the X30 for about 3 months, i'm pretty pleased with it all round. There is one issue however, after update 00WW_1_310 SP01 charging is limited to about 8.5 W, instead of the maximum 33 W. Personally i didn't experience any overheating issues while charging the phone prior to the latest build so i'm not sure why Nokia has done this. The slower charging doesn't bother me in the slightest as i always top up during the evening, but it would be nice if Nokia acknowledged why they seem to have changed the specification of the the phone now. Excellent video as usual. 👍
Being a Nokia fan & user, I'm excited to use Nokia X30 & ordered after checking these reviews. But unfortunately, it's worse. There are a lot of bugs & the camera is very disappointing. It's not even closer to Nokia 7.1 which was released in 2018 as it uses the Zeiss lens. I had to return it & buy another one I request the reviewers to not mislead people
I traded in an iPhone 11 for a pixel 7 and instantly regretted it, it was awful! So I looked to see what I could trade the pixel in for without much to pay. I had to 'settle' for the Nokia X30. All I can say is wow! It is super stable and slick to use. I'd say the user experience is as close to an iPhone as I've experienced on any android device. No glitches or irritations encountered (unlike the multitude of bugs and glitches on the pixel!) I'm super stoked to have found the X30 by chance and would recommend it to anyone. Definitely punches above its price tag. Camera and speaker dislikes may be valid if they matter to you. For me they are non-issues.
On paper the X30 seems like the ideal device. And it’s definitely not a bad one at all, especially with the upgrades you mentioned (higher refresh rate, upgraded camera app, enhanced battery life and software performance) in your review. But coming from an 8.3, 5G, should I chose to upgrade this unfortunately wouldn’t be my choice. There are a few too many compromises that are deal breakers for me, as it seems that Nokia is trying to follow similar trends in its midrange category as other OEMs do in theirs or more specifically, their flagship class. No phone jack, no microSD card slot. Even if you let’s say don’t make use of those features frequently or at all, the choice should still be there in case they ever become needed. The battery is smaller, and yes I do understand that it makes up for it by being more efficient than its larger counterparts in terms of power consumption…but at this point, except those few upgrades you highlighted, the 8.3 5G has all those features missing on the X30…including the fact that they are both still using Android 12, which in the case of the 8.3 5G, would be the last OS/software it would be getting (even though the device should and could be able to handle Android 13 given that it had 8GB of RAM). Also, and this maybe nitpicking, but I am disappointed that on a midranger like the X30, Nokia’s collaboration with (Carl) Zeiss is noticeably absent. Right now, and I’m only saying this if you own an 8.3 5G, the X30 doesn’t look like an upgrade, it is more of a side step instead of a step forward. The only viable alternative for a kind of an upgrade would be the G60. While it lacks in certain areas and would rightly be considered a downgrade in some aspects, no doubt, it retains a lot of the features and specs I wish had been incorporated on the X30. Hopefully there’s a follow up device to the XR21…XR31 (?) that will address these issues. Now THAT would be a smartphone to keep an eye out for!
@@khaifmd3412 Yep. I'll do just that. That was more just thinking that if I did want to upgrade...or well change devices, as of now the G60 seems, at least for me, as the best available option.
I went from the 8.3 to the X30 and I do not regret it. From my personal perspective I've found the X30 to be much faster, much better battery life (although I'd had my 8.3 for 2 years so that could be part of it) I wasn't too impressed to lose the micro SD slot or headphone jack, but I bought the 256GB 8GB ram to cover that. I prefer Bluetooth headphones but I used a wired connection for singing as the wired ones work better for that. The camera has been better on the X30, the speaker is much better, and as much as I miss the 8.3 size for being able to reassuringly feel it in my pocket, the size makes it much easier to use - especially when using the camera. The 8.3 was a stunning looking phone, but I never really loved the phone. I had the Nokia 8 before it which was just so much faster and smoother than the 8.3, and it felt like a dip in quality to me. The X30 actually does seem like an upgrade and I'm very happy with it. I did also consider the G60, which certainly does seem priced better for the spec, but I honestly have no regrets at all.
What's the hullabaloo about the 3.5 mm jack ? The USB C port does exactly the same function, and better. If you have the old 3.5 mm pin devices, just buy a 2 dollar connector for the same.
I think the move to letters and numbers from numbers caused a bit of confusion. Technically, the 8.3 was on a higher calibre than the X30. If they would release a successor to it, it would be an X40/50. but I also prefer using the X30 over the 8.3 mainly due to the size and display. G60 would still be a good option in terms of speed, and keeping the 3.5mm jack, but cameras and in hand feel, its a big step back from the 8.3
Hope in future Nokia would launch a smartphone at least comes with snapdragon 7 gen chipset and better camera quality that can beat samsung or iPhone and it comes at a premium mid ranger tag.
No need to go for snapdragon 7 gen chipset. With android one and monthly security update, the mid range soc will perform like high range one. Even my nokia 7.2 with sd660 is perfoming very well, it handles what i throw at it. Honestly, at first was little disappointed but time to time update and upgrade fized every issues in device and made it well performing one. Very impressed.
I got it under half price and think it's damn good for what you get for sale prices personally. The speaker just sucks for music you're best to carry around a Bluetooth speaker.
I don't own a X30 but must say, face unlocking performance on 8.3 5g has also improved leaps and bounds. I believe some software update has enhanced its performance. Initially I thought why would someone need the feature, when unlocking by fingerprint is good until you realize living in a cold place when you have your gloves on. Face unlock is a saviour. It works good for 9 out of 10 times. Only problem I have had is when I am in a dark room. You need to take the phone too close to your face or have the phones brightness increased. Do you experience the same with X30?
The texture and craftsmanship of the X30 are very good, the operation is smooth, and the camera performance is powerful, but the most unacceptable thing is that the video recording function is really unsatisfactory, especially at 60 fps.
I really wanted to use the X30 as my daily driver . The deal breaker for me was the lack of VoLTE. It’s absolutely horrible these days when telcos switched to VoLTE on their networks and your phone doesn’t support it. What you get is frequent disconnections, you can’t access data while on a call and so forth.. with the recent upgrade to Android 13, and it being stock android, I just love it. It’s the closest thing you can get to a Pixel UI in markets where Pixels are not supported. Regarding the camera, I have no issues..
VoLTE is a battery guzzler. Even my X20's battery drains more rapidly with VoLTE enabled and no calls being made. The only option is to fall back to 3G+ HSPA+ which has high latency.
X30 *still* with Android 12 out of the box here in NL. Leaning towards saving my pennies and getting a G42, though it doesn't look like it is nearly as good a phone.
They just priced the X30 for around 50k INR (607 USD), I think they could’ve just gone with a powerful snapdragon 870 (ik that’s old, but viable) and kept its price for around 25k cuz I would not pay 600+ dollars for Snapdragon 695.
I think people don't know what they are missing if they don't use nokia Most of Nokia smart phone is value for money You never disappoint if you buy nokia I go for Nokia x30 for belownreason 1 in hand feeling is extra ordinery 2 display 3 clean android 4 256 storage Only one complain you can not record 2k or 4k video You can not play 4k video While Nokia 7.2 8.1 is able to record 4k video
Have my X30 a few weeks now. Very disappointed that I cannot have my text message tone separated from notification tone! Like I did no my Sony Z1 before. Otherwise good phone so far.
Based on your comparison with this and the G60, i went with the G60. Honestly, it's been perfect for me. For a "slower" phone, it out performs the Galaxy S20FE that i replaced for it. (That Galaxy was/is a hateful piece of trash.) The G60 is smoother, way more accurate in touch response, and Android One over whatever abomination Samsung are pushing really speaks for itself. I would say i am a medium to heavy phone user, but even at the end of the day I'm left with greater than 70% charge. (However I have disabled a lot of functions that i honestly hate, like auto adjust screen brightness, which is a huge battery drain, and hurts my brain.) This phone is honestly better than the "twice the price" Samsung in every single way except that the loud speaker is anemic. But that's definitely no deal breaker at this price point.
I was on the cusp of buying the G60 coz it has always been Nokia for me. But then they priced it at 400 dollars here in India. So I bought Moto Edge 30 with a better processor at just 280 USD.
I'm glad you're enjoying the G60. The thing I was impressed the most on that phone was its smoothness and speed and I remember many comments just focused on the type of processor rather than the experience and of course complaining... But I absolutely get what you mean. People don't realise how much difference lack of bloatware makes on the overall speed and smoothness. Samsung is horrible in that regard.
After 2 months, my Nokia X30 fell out of my bike mount (forgot to lock it in), and the LCD panel under the glass became damaged. The damage started in the lower left side near the corner, and spread across the whole panel until it was fully black, so now it's unusable. It was in a TPU case when it was dropped, and the phone itself looks completely unharmed, and there's a subtle scuff on the TPU case. Just bad luck maybe, but now I'm back to my Nokia 8, which has been dropped numerous times, and still hanging in there. Since the Nokia X30 is not sold in my country officially, there is no warranty, and I can't even send it in to get repaired. I'm stuck going to a third-party phone repair shop. Aside from that, I did like the X30 very much.
You need to make a video of Nokia’s new logo! Whats your take on that logo change? I honestly prefer the classic. It has a historical significance and no one can’t take away the power that classic logo brings.
It's hard for me to like the X30 when the G60 use the same Snapdragon 695 chipset and also eligible for three major OS update. Also, the Xperia 10 iv is cheaper than the X30 and has both headphone jack and microSD card slot, which is something the X30 neither has.
Sure you won't really get a performance advantage with the X30 over the G60, but its very clear that its a much better phone when you use their features. Kinda like a BMW 540 and a 340. Same engine, different quality/features.
Thanks for the video and review, very helpful. It sounds like many of the challenges are due to Android one vs the phone. I think of Android one as being the crippled version but maybe that isn't right.
This thing looks just like the spiritual successor to the Nokia 7 plus from 2018. This phone was branded the flagship killer of that year and I must say, a SD665 a then huge 3800mAh battery strong cameras and a slick design are a convincing formula. It is just a shame that it has literally nothing new to offer.
i wish i waited long enough for this phone to be released because i would've bought one. the problems you mention wouldn't be a problem for me, even though it's not acceptable. i essentially never use the loud speaker. and since whatsapp is the most intesive app i use, the low end cpu (it's not really low end) wouldn't bother me one bit.
I was so tempted to buy one of these to replace my iPhone X when it died. I couldn’t decided between one of these, a pixel or sticking with an over priced iPhone. The iPhone won, only due to all my family are IPhone and it just made everything easier. If that hadn’t been the case the Nokia would have won.
The automatic display brightness makes the display much too dark in low light situations, no matter how often you re-adjust the brightness in such situations with the slider
Exactly my pain. What are they thinking, pricing a SD 695 device at nearly 50 k ? And then the cannabalised it on their own by pricing the other SD 695 device (G60) at 30 k ! It should have been more like G60 at 21-22k and X30 at 30K. I am sure nobody will buy both those devices in India.
I understand. I also think that price is too much. But please don't take one component as the only factor that determines the price. There is a reason the G60 is so much cheaper despite having the same processor. The same way a BMW 130i and 530i might share an engine, but are completely different in price and features.
@@atulmalhotra2303 Upside of purchasing a Nokia device is whether it may compete with cheap Chinese pricing or not, I can blindly keep faith on Nokia for durability, smooth experience and software updates (even after years of launch still my 6.1 plus is working great). So I don't believe that no one will purchase these.
@@AbdullaZaki I am looking for a upgraded feature wise too, that's why I might skip this device. Do you think they will launch a new device in the next 3-4 months
@@v44922 My Nokia 7.2, purchased 14.1.2020, was going well till I dropped it in a water tank last month. It would have lasted me till 2024 end if I wanted. But 30k for a Nokia G60 is way too much. 20-22 k is more like it. And 30 k for X30. Plus, why shouldn't there be any offering below 25k ? What are they thinking ?
Do you know what would be cool? If Nokia lanchued a UI based on their windows phone design. Like a modern version of the tiles but obviously running Andorid and Google apps. It would give personality to Nokia. I would certainly buy it.
true! at the moment all android phones look the same both in and out. every phone and brand needs to have something unique that people can identify with. talk of the kids corner; non existent.
It's neither good or bad. I'd say it's best features are the display and the formfactor. For me personally I don't think choosing the 695 was a good idea trying to play the long game. I personally see UI lag with gestures often. And the speaker..... Enough said. If you a Nokia fan it's an OK device. But if your looking for better at this price point, Nothing P1 or pixel 6A will serve you better. For me personally there's nothing exceptional here. It's neither good or bad.
Both the nothing and 6A btw have the same animations stutters despite having more competent processors on A12. I think Google fixed some of it with A13 and the X20/X10 got a significant boost in smoothness with the update so I expect the same here.
@@AbdullaZaki Ive been using the nothing P1 on A13 the past week and it's very fluid indeed. But for me it was already pretty good. I have very briefly used a 6A. I can't comment about long term use, but for me personally it was a very good experience. However none of that it the real problem here. For the true Nokia fans who want a flagship, these devices like the X series and XR are never going to satisfy them. HMD is firmly making its name in the affordable and reliable segments. That's no bad thing. But the likely hood of seeing a flagship, or something very close just isn't a priority. Truth is HMD probably have come to the conclusion that the upper end midrange and flagship segments are just not lucrative enough for their business model. The R&D just isn't worth the limited sales. Nobody minds spending relatively small money on a reliable phone with Nokias heritage. But that name really dims and fades when people are asked to start paying over $£€500 for a device considered a legacy brand at those segment's. We would love to see your awesome renders come true. But the cold truth is that HMD are not focused there. And are unlikely to be for the foreseeable future.
Hello i bought the Nokia x30 for around 290 Usd. And I am very dissapointed with this device. The Loudspeakers are just very bad. And when you chat with Nokia they are lying i think. They say it can be solved with a software Update and say that the Problem isn't known very often. Not directly but apparently. Nokia shoulf Start a repair call and they should never lie to us. I don't know if they lie sometimes but i think. The device feels very premium the Design aspect is very good. But one thing i wish from Nokia. A screen Protector. When you buy a Glass screenprotector. Then by the side is air because the rounded corners. Its not only the thing that they are selling a device with broken Speakers. It is also the thing that they don't make anything against that. They should make a repair call and built in in every device a good Quality Speaker. I would pay for it.
It is a shame Abdullah that Nokia (HMD) are giving us and you so little to keep us interested. Be good to have a few videos in 2024 despite that! Possibly this model a year on? Or on your current daily driver. Best wishes.
Abdullah, I am Really Disappointed why HMD Global So Arrogant & Careless with India/Indian Customers. I didn't not try X30. Waiting to buy a Nokia Phone priced less than X30. I agree with about Little Disappointing.
I didn't buy X30 because our Finnish 🇫🇮 tech reviewers weren't too happy. They didn't like it's daytime photos. Night time photos were great, but that's not important to me as I almost never take night photos. Snapdragon 695 at this price point is a letdown, it should have been Snapdragon 7 Gen 1. A good AMOLED screen but 6,4" is too small for my big hands, I prefer a minimum 6,6" these days. SD card slot should have been added too. I wonder why it must be left out on all phones in 2023 except the budget priced models (even Samsung took it away from A54, all earlier 50 series models always had it. X30 main 50 mp camera has so much potential since it's Samsung's flagship sensor - same as on Galaxy S22 and S22+. So I guess it's a software problem that HMD maybe could fix sometime in the future.
As a Nokia 6.2 user I can share that the photo quality was disappointing for at least 1 to 1.5 years after purchase (especially noise issues), but then they updated their camera app and things were greatly improved. Moreover, things were good at all times with an unofficial gCam build. So they definitely have a habit of messing up the image processing, but it's a software thing that did get improved significantly in my experience.
In test with general public they always go for fotos with the most colour and the most brightness So Nokia is tuning camera to what the general public expected and not what is considered good
I also had a Nokia 6.1 for 4,5 years, and upgraded to a Nokia X20 mid last year. If I'm happy with the X20 running Android 13, I would be happy with the Nokia G60 too, because it has a better processor than the X20. And if you pick the 6GB/128 Gb version, you'll have phone for several years to come. So, yeah, I'm sure the G60 is a good upgrade for the Nokia 6.1.
I never purchased any other brand apart from Nokia since 2002. My Nokia 7.2 (bought 14.1.2020) fell into water on 7.2.2023 and I had to purchase a new phone. Nokia G60 retails at 400 USD in India and X30 at 600. Disappointed with them, I bought my first ever non Nokia phone, a Motorola Edge 30 ( 6/128 ) for 280 USD. So far very impressed.
Why they are not launching phones with snapdragon processor below₹20000 in India...they had 5.4 with sd processor and puch hole camera within ₹15000... And they had 7.2 and 6.2 with Zeiss optics camera under ₹20000. Now they are providing unisoc T606 and 50 mp waste camera (G21) in the same range . Upcoming G22 is also having same unisoc t606.... They are far far away from Indian market... Going farther and farther ... May be in future we Indians remember Nokia in our dreams...
Funny thitg is that this model isn't available in Indonesia, left only lower G and C series. From what i've experiment with Samsung A22 5G with isocell gm2, i'm able to produce a very natural looking photo with the sharpness i see it as optimal, but I have to do it from raw file. If Nokia x30 have an CameraAPI2 access opened, you can make a better looking photo
The X30 makes me conflicted: they did most things right compared to previous models with a relatively compact size and weight, practical materials, OLED display, IP67 rating, Victus glass, OIS, a capable camera sensor, 33W charging... but something seems missing. Certainly the choice of chipset, while perfectly capable, seems more out of place against the rest of the specs, but I think it comes down to the design which lacks the subtle warmth and more human appeal of something like the X20 or 8.3. Considering there have been updates to the camera interface and features I am at least hopeful they may at least temper the excesses of the HDR on the X30, but maybe it is just an ISOCELL issue (looking at photos taken with the S23 Ultra I am starting to suspect the latter).
I notice it's loads cheaper now. Currently on the HMD website for £179! Cheaper than the XR20, which is currently £225 on their website. I've been considering one of these for some time. I need a new phone, and one with a high ip rating, as I'm prone to getting phones wet 🤭 Still can't decide which to get, any advice appreciated! I've got small hands ! I'm female) so maybe x30 better?
I've been asking myself how they are still in business? I mean the competitors are simply in a different universe for that price region. I don't get the strategy of Nokia at all anymore
I don't imagine the X30 would be one of their hot sellers but I want you to think about it this way: Not every phone needs to focus on the exact same ingredients because actual consumers outside of the tech community aren't interested in benchmarks and speed tests. They want a phone that works reliably, is quick, can capture good pictures in every situation, looks and feels good in the hand, has a nice display, and gets updated for a long period of time. The X30 does all of these things quite well. The only disappointing aspect is the speaker which really should be much better at this price point. Keep in mind, I'm not saying I'm happy with the direction the brand is going. But its not like competitors are doing much better outside of ticking checklists, and every phone comes with its own set of compromises of course.
@@AbdullaZaki Yeah you are right. I think HMD might also earn a bit more money with feature phones than smartphones nowadays. Maybe they also sell a lot of smartphones for businesses that need affordable phones on a large scale without the newest fanciest camera or cpu. Just reliable MDE controllable devices.
@@AbdullaZaki Definitely software thing. It just only appear in the first boot screen with still logo, when it’s in the 2nd stage of boot that black spot disappeared. So strange! Wonder if others had it too.
I have been using my Nokia X20 for over a year now. I just took my cover off to clear the dust. The volume key came off 😢. Volume up plastic lock got broken 😢 I don't know how. I don't want to change my mobile device because I have so much stuff in it. I'm looking for suggestions should I go for X30 and why? Thanks.
Hi bro x30 music is Dolby Atmos or ozo play this sounds quality how?? Earphone song listen very good or not i am used Nokia 8 sounds very very much good but same quality have this phone plz can tell me sir thanks.
At this moment I regret it I choose for a Samsung Galaxy Flip4 last year, it does more than flipping, I guess I got too much used to Nokia haha. So now I'm in the market and want to choose from the X30, which has a great price here (379) or the XR21 (499) as second phone I have the XR20 and some older Nokias as backup. Which one would you choose?
If you want something stylish, compact size and good camera I would go for X30, if you want infinite durability and better battery life, I would go for XR21
Mic .. sometimes my voice is so low people can't hear me in recording ... The power buttons below the volume is a little annoying ... The Nokia startup tone is just annoying as that can't be turned off .. other than that I am happy
I did put my hope on Hmd reviving the Nokia brand i got the Nokia 6.1 and g21 only to be dissapointed! Whats the point of hmd and Nokia phones these days? They had their chance once upon a time but messed it upp megawise! Over and out!
Hey Abdullah ! I have a blind trust on you. Currently, I am using nokia 6.1+ and I wanted to upgrade. Will Nokia G21 satisfy my needs ? Will it gives me more quality photos? Will it give my better performance? Please I want your suggestion !
which did you go for in the end, im currently also using a 4.2 and was thinking X30.as here in the UK they are not a bad price, yet the 256gb version just doubled on Prime Day, and HMD have added a £30 increase in its sales price over night.
Hello Abdulla, thanks for sharing your experience, I still have Nokia 6.1 (still serves good). Replace by X30? Pixel 6a? Pixel 7? I dont know... I like Nokia, but bought Zenfone 8 for daughter and also looks good... Probably, I will keep 6.1 for a bil longer, only thing bothering me is slower Waze, except that is phone OK...
@@AbdullaZaki do you believe this can happen I mean it's only 3 more years to go and considering their last innovation was XR20 and then they suprised is with the specs of G60 and X30 but priced them terribly wrong directly positioning them against Nothing Phone 1, Moto Edge 30 fusion, pixel series phones and Literally close to previous generation of iphones.
They charge more price for clean ui (android one), bigger battery life even with low mah battery, premium flagship looks in mid range device. Powerful full optimized display and camera quality. Chinese phones manufacturer are only charging money for better specs with low optimization, poor battery life due to bloatwares, laggy ui, low build quality devices.
