Love the breakdown Brett! This was a bit of a wake-up call for us to make sure we have our first/aid kit better stocked and we'll have to get that transparent dressing! That second wrap was only for the night to make sure we didn't get our sheets bloody haha. I'm going to share this with Taylor and see if we can snag some of the dressing and good tip on the wilderness course for medical professionals!

As someone with a knack of tearing open stitches I can vouch for steristrips. I have been known to just use bandaid strips as a substitute, whatever is handy.

Agreed. In a pinch, KT tape.

That’s a surf wound? Hold my beer…😉 (inside joke - great breakdown, Bretty)

Seriously, I so wish there was video of your “surf wound”. Sheesh…. Miss you, my friend. I still describe you as the most passionate paddler I know.

I have never heard of Semi Permeable Dressing before, which will be a fantastic addition to my our First Aid Kits. So before commenting I was on the horrible online shop that starts with an A to see if I can get my mitts on them. I have seen similar to them over here in Hospital when my Daughter has been in and had Cannulas fitted and they have had a film put over to hold them in place, but they are pre cut for use with Cannulas. I don't think we have had them here for very long. As they used to tape the wings of the Cannula then apply a small dressing, which would often come off with my Daughter, the newer tend to be with her still the end of her Admission, then removed by a Nurse of Healthcare Assistant (or Auxiliary Nurse as it was in my Mothers day.) if she hadn't removed it herself first. Most of the First Aid kits I have dotted around different vehicles and the home, plus my Kayak all have Steri Strips. I tent to buy quality First Aid Kits as I have had cheaper ones and you get what you pay for with them. The ones I use also have restock kits that you can order from Lifesystems that do Outdoor First Aid Kits, from small Trek Kits to Mountain Leader Pro kits, along with a lot of other items you could need to make life easier when off Adventuring. I have their Waterproof kit just for my Kayak. Fantastic video once again Brett.

Nexcare and 3m also make versions (and there are probably more!) you should be able to find something. They are really IV cover sites… and tattoo artists use them as well (at least here in the US) so if you cant find them stop into a tattoo place and see if they can recommend a vendor.

Exactly.

Perfect video for me. Given that my skin makes tissue paper look like kevlar armor this will probably be what I deal with most frequently when kayaking. Added a few items to get for my first aid kit. Thanks!

Another great backcountry medicine video. During a career in the Army I got my fill of training on wound management etc, but this series is reminding me of what I need to know. Well done and thanks

I have military/former military in WFA classes all the time and they get great training for the stuff they see, which is severe trauma. But we need to be managing mostly far less severe stuff. Thanks for watching.
