United is not an economy line but has THE most restrictive personal item size - 17x9x10. Smaller than any of the budget airlines. This is the only bag I found that meets that criteria.

The Original Bento bag is slightly larger (less than 1 inch on all sides) than the Away Everywhere Bag. I just returned from a trip overseas and took the Everywhere Bag as my personal carryon, and it DID NOT completely fit under the seat in front of me on Delta in a Premium Select seat. That means the Bento Bag WILL NOT FIT under the same seats! Just so y’all understand, there is a tiny bit more room under the Premium Select seats than under a Main Cabin seat; that means they won’t fit under a Main Cabin seat. In my opinion, both the Bento Bag and the Everywhere bag are really great pieces of luggage; however, do not be fooled by all these reviews and videos. NEITHER ONE FITS UNDER THE PLANE SEAT IN FRONT OF YOU!!

If it fits into the Delta personal item sizer, or any other airlines' sizer, that all that's you need to take it as an underseat bag.

As I stated, the Away did not really fit. I had to push it with my feet! As the Bento is slightly larger, I do not know how it would fit. Just my opinion due to personal experience.

Good to know!! 8x10x17 is under the size requirements for the personal item for both airlines I’m about to fly, american and delta. I’m hoping it will fit under the seat since the airline suggests it will. But honestly if i am just allowed to get on the plane with it as a personal item, i will figure out where to stow it. :-)

I just went from coast to coast US flights on American and on United and it fit under the seat on both planes in coach. I turned it on its side. One was an airbus, (i forget the number, but 5 seats across), one was slightly larger boeing 737 max 6 seats across. It worked great for me!

Looks way to big to fit under a lot of seats. And why would you want it for under a seat if it folds out like a suitcase and is way too big to get stuff out of in the confines of your seat? Ah, business class. For most people, this is overhead compartment territory.
