The waste water, especially with the filter cleaned in it works great in the garden for grass, flowers, vegetables etc -and it's organic!

Your aquascape turned out very nicely. I’m glad you put out a update video as I love looking at this aquarium. I hope to make something that looks as natural as what you have put together. Also, the amount of effort you put into your videos is very evident and we all very much appreciate the work you are putting out.

A tank life this is balm for the soul during a cold, gray winter. The brightness, color, a thriving community of plants and animals along with the quiet hum of filter are soothing. I'd love to have that again. Oh, and I can't resist saying that it might be possible to feed tank wastewater to house or garden plants as fertilizer thereby squeezing every drop of usefulness from the water.....

I use the same approach in my 30 and 54 litre aquariums :) No CO2, relatively simple, easy-growing plants. Not too much light, moderate dosing of fertilizers. There's some algae (as in your scape) but it's not too bad. So far so good (one tank is 5 months old, another one is over 8).

Sweet! Never stop repeating the principles. Many videos are the same thing over and over. Humans are forgetful. All superb husbandry methods that I use myself. Removing water before cleaning is a subtle one, but shouldn't be overlooked unless you want water spillage like you mentioned.

Crap, thanks a lot James Farmer!!! You made such a great, informative & understandable vid I'm suddenly interested in yet another hobby. Haha & lol Seriously, after 30+ yrs of wanting a large-ish hexigon tank I took the plunge and bought a used, 35 gal set-up from Craigslist. I just today stumbled across aquascaping for the 1st time while researching how to get my tank started. My experience level is so beginner it makes a kid with a dead goldfish seem like a pro. Can u tell I'm terrified? After watching you, I think I'll start with a basic plant tank. When they've thrived (note the positivity) I can add in fish as the weeks, months and years progress. Thanks again!

It's beautiful. I am definitely doing something wrong; It has been a month now since I had planted rotala green (green but not growing tall at all), monte carlo (melted), s. repens (green and healthy), rotala HRA (does not look healthy, not growing at all), used ada aquasoil. I am using 14W, 7500K (not sure about the lumen) LED on 17ltr water column (8" high from substrate) and light is placed 6.5" above the water surface, dose only Flourish Excel.
