It’s making you the hero, put yourself in their shoes and fall in love the the form of media, GIVE IT A TRY BY ASKING YOUR FANS AND CHAT FOR SUGGESTIONS AND GREAT STARTING POINTS AND HELP IF NEEDED. If it’s a major problem just switch your difficulty to easy until you get the hang of the game then switch back to medium and then to hard when your feeling confident. not really, it is a song that speaks about witcher but is not sang by monsters, it is actually sang by commoners. in the world of the witcher series witchers are actually despised by people, they are seen as monsters paid to kill other monsters, a "necessary evil". so the lullaby of woe is actually sang by ignorant commonfolk demonizing witchers since the early days of children. It's basically the perpetration of ill stereotypes trough seemingly innocent acts such as singing a song to put a child to sleep.

Yea....... Not many monsters can speak human words. And even fewer that care enough to sing to the children. They just eat the children.

@@barba3377 no, it definitely is a song that sentient monsters, mainly higher vampires, sing to their children. Maybe at some point humans adopted it, but it definitely is meant to be from the perspective of a monster, that should be silent and hide from the boogeyman (witcher), because he will cut you up for gold. Witchers dont get paid to kill children. They get paid to kill monsters.

ok so i’ll try to sum some things up, let me know if i didn’t make something clear enough! :) there are many different types of games and the witcher 3 is an rpg which means “role playing game”. in this game, that role is geralt. just as you’d have a main character to follow in a book or movie, he’s the medium through which you experience this game. it’s his story. there are hundreds of rpg type games like ‘dungeons and dragons’ or even ‘the sims’. what makes them different are the settings, characters, way you play etc. pretty much the same things that would make any story different from another. this game takes place after the tv show btw. maybe a good 6 or 7 years. sidenote: witcher 3 is actually the most awarded game in history, not just out of rpgs but out of every game ever created! it’s my favorite game so i’m always happy to share that fact lol. to address a couple comments you made: yes, geralt is very jingly😂😂 that medallion he wears is actually very useful! it vibrates to let him know if there’s danger around. certain monsters, magic, some deceptions, it alerts him to them all! although he couldn’t see the bruxxa (female vampire) his medallion vibrating told him she was still close. also, i don’t know if you noticed but that was what the glitter was for. it clung to her outline making her visible. and good on you for noticing that the potion he drank was what affected her! a lot of people don’t! oh and the gravely voice you heard here is actually what henry cavil based his own voice off of in the show. he’s a big fan of the books AND the games! hope i cleared a couple things up and i apologize for the essay. i noticed you mentioned having an addictive personality under another comment and that’s just how i am too! anyway, all things witcher used to be one of my obsessions and it’s coming out now lol. really do hope this helped in some way!!

If its vibrating to let him know danger is around, its also letting the danger know he’s around haha! And I think maybe they both based their voice off of throat cancer batman… but hat might just be me. I did hear Henry Cavil is a big nerd and begged to play Geralt which is pretty cool!

Somehow no one had actually written about how the “story” is structured in games so I’ve decided to write it down. A game usually has two stories it wants to tell you (may be more but they usually still divide into these two categories): 1)a story that happens “right now” to you as a protagonist or to the protagonists as you watch from the side; 2) a story that had happened before you “got there” and usually you can only infer what happened by looking at the environment, finding clues and listening to NPCs or reading books and notes.

Expecting 40+ years of culture surrounding an ever evolving medium that made the jump from toy to art form in just under 20 to be explained in a "short comment" is like a baby dumping a box of cereal on the floor: both adorable and incredibly frustrating. The easiest way to think about it is like this: if some movies are like short books but with moving pictures instead of written words, than some videogames are like long movies but the plot doesn't move forward unless you give it some kind of input. Sometimes that input can be simple, like pressing left and right to keep a kart on the track. Other times that input can be extremely complex like choosing between releasing an evil spirit that was a plant but now's a horse so it can rescue a group of small children from a terrible fate but dooming a poor cursed woman to a painful death in the process; or lifting the woman's curse by letting those children die so she can return home to her violent abusive husband with the knowledge that like a BUNCH of kids got Hansel-&-Gretel-ed all because she had a miscarriage when he drunkenly pushed her down the stairs. If you're interested at all about trying to get into gaming I would NOT recommend The Witcher 3. It's fantastic, of course, but it's got a ridiculously steep learning curve, even for experienced gamers. I would recommend Life is Strange as a good introduction to gaming. It's short, easy to play, well written with a compelling story, and most importantly: inexpensive.

Most games worth their price have hundreds of hours of gameplay, most of which is exploring and meeting new people/creatures. Many games this year were more moving than films, due to their length and ability to make better characters that you spend more time with, and ultimately decide their fate. Yes, RPG games actually have stories. There's a main quest represented by a large series of quests adding up to a major storyline. The most important part, basically. Then, there are also secondary quests and each one of them is a small separate story. The player has to make certain decisions while completing all of those quests, which will ultimately affect the character, the world around them and the ending of the game. Hope that's clear!

My girlfriend has about as much knowledge as you do in games, and there's nothing wrong with that! Infact, I absolutely love watching my girlfriend (as well as people who aren't well versed in games) discovering the medium for the first time, and seeing just how valuable these experiences are. They're essentially almost always interactive stories. The Witcher 3 specifically is an open world game which takes place in an entire continent, you get to explore it and ride along with an incredible story that it tells you. The game is so beautiful and so genuinely interesting and it's one of the many games that showed me just how genuinely amazing games can be as a medium. The first game to ever do this to me was the Half-Life series, and, infact, the Half-Life games are what inspired me to be a 3D artist and game developer/animator myself! The beauty of video games is that they are an intricate blend of multiple different art forms creating a truly personal and impactful experience that is driven by the player, and it makes me so happy seeing people who aren't necessarily interested in games being introduced to The Witcher 3 thanks to the new Netflix series, because, i'm going to be honest, there couldn't have been a better choice to introduce you with :) I'm trying to introduce my Girlfriend to video games as well. I've introduced her to Half-Life, but I plan on introducing her to other incredible games that I so deeply love, too, like Dishonored. Infact, I'll recommend it to you, too! Look up the Dishonored 2 Cinematic Trailer, if you'd like! It's another amazing trailer, and just like The Witcher 3's trailer, it's just as intricate and relevant to the source material. Everything you see in the trailer for that game is actually in the game! Infact, the actual in-game things look cooler than the trailer itself in my honest opinion lol. I reckon Dishonored isn't as popular nowadays, but honestly, even just watching it in private is amazing, as well as watching playthroughs of these games!

Witchers are also capable of using 5 very limited magics or Signs. The spot where a sort of golden globe appeared around him is the Quen sign, a sort of short term force field that acts to stop damage. The place where he sort of knocked her back with a wave of his hand was Aard, a fairly powerful force wave that can stun or knock back enemies. Other signs are Igni, a flame based attack sign, Yrden, which puts a circle of signs on the ground around the caster...any monster or any foe that enters can be slowed or limited...at higher levels, staying inside the circle of symbols can do damage to them. The last sign is Axii, which is kind of a mind control spell...it can make an enemy do what you wish, can make him stop attacking and not defend against your attacks. It can make it easier to get past an enemy with a shield or more powerful armor. At higher levels of expertise Axii can actually make an enemy turn on his friends and fight for you for a time...useful if you're fighting multiple enemies.

Whenever a Witcher comes close to a source of magic or sorcery, (or monsters) his medallion will shake...sort of an early warning system. The potion he drank before going into the barn was probably Black Blood, a potion which renders a Witcher's blood toxic to vampires...they bite him, it's like acid to their system. The glass bulb he threw up is a "bomb" almost certainly "Moon Dust" a concoction containing silver shards which limits vampires (and some other monsters) abilities to go invisible and slows them somewhat.

Yes, story-driven games are a very common thing nowadays. The ones that have no story are usually called "arcade games". Some games have a little story to them, like Mario or many of online-shooters. These games are balanced more to the side of playing than telling a story. But you also have the games that are all-story. These are graphic novels and games made by Tell-Tale Games studios and similar to them ("The Walking Dead" series, "Wolf among us", "Life is Strange", etc). They have almost no gameplay and I'd recommend starting from them for a non-gamer. There are also games that manage to both tell a story and give a gameplay. They are mostly role-play games (RPGs, out of which I would recommend you "Undertale"), but there are also games in other genres that achieve that: action-rpg "The Witcher 3", action-horror "The Last of Us" (which is deemed to have the best story in all of the gaming history), action-slasher "Devil May Cry" series, etc. Also worth mentioning that almost all AAA games -- the most expensive ones, made by a big studio -- have a good plot tied into their gameplay.

Orianna is a really cool character. She's a Bruxa(a female vampire) & has a prequel story in the DLC where she's an ally but with dubious behaviours. At the end he says to her,"You realise one day I'll come for you." The way games work is that you operate a chr who can walk, fight & interact with the world. The games often start with a cut scene that set up the story. Then you get control of your chr and start exploring the landscape. Fighting, finding stuff & solving puzzles is the gameplay put into an overarching plot. Usually you're given a quest, then when you complete the quest(go fight the monster, go find the baron) you're given a cut scene that advances the plot. The final fight in the game is usually the hardest, as it involves all the skills you learned in the game and acts as a dramatic finale. does that make sense?
@HannaHsOverInvested
@HannaHsOverInvested 4 года назад
So the quest doesn't advance the plot?
@scattysafari7742
@scattysafari7742 4 года назад
@@HannaHsOverInvested Quests do advance the plot. The main plot of Witcher 3 is Geralt trying to find Ciri before the evil Wild Hunt band of elves from another dimension take her & use her for her powers. So when he talks to a baron who knows where Ciri went, the Baron says he will tell Geralt IF he finds his wife & daughter who ran away from his drinking & abuse. Geralt then completes a quest & locates that info. Then when he tells the baron, the Baron tells him where she was seen last, so that's where Geralt is headed next. (Dialogue choices during cut scenes also change the story.)Generally though, the main guts of the quest stay the same regardless of what you do. Actions often get you quite different endings though. . RPGS also have side quests, which are optional. They give XP which upgrades your character's stats to make boss fights easier. Money earnt can be spent on better weapons & gear. They also add flavour & color to your character & the world. So while Geralt is looking for Ciri, he still has to feed himself. So he accepts contracts on noticeboards to kill monsters. You can pick these quests up as you travel to the place for the next part of the main story.Often these are little ministories in themselves: a Leshen(big deerskullheaded man-monster) is terrorizing a village. Geralt is commissioned to kill it. The elders beg him not to, to give tribute to it instead. Then you find yourself in a power war between the elders & the young people, who wanted an excuse to kill the older leaders off . Sometimes your choices in quests affect the plot, sometimes they don't.In the Leshen plot, shit happens no matter what you choose. In the main game, every time you don't let Ciri act like an adult & try to think for her, you are likely going to get the bad ending. If she lacks confidence at the end, she fails.Quests decisions sometimes affect the plot, sometimes not, but the basic overarching story is usually the same regardless of what you do. Your actions decide the ending & smaller details. Like-did you romance Triss or Yenn or both?(You can end up married to either or alone) Does Ciri live or die? Who did you side with in the battle to rule Skellige?That kind of thing. If you're confused, you could always watch about an hour of gameplay. It doesn't really spoil much but you'd get a clearer idea of how it works. And don't be put off by the difficulty. I'm 53, only started gaming at 40 and I'm lefthanded & have a disability & got through it. I play on Normal difficulty, but some games i play on Easy if I'm unwell or it's a genre I suck at(like platforming). It has a 'Just the Story!" mode. Game is frequently on sale on all platforms(including the 2 longass DLCs )for $15. Also, look up 'Orianna /Blood & Wine DLC' if you want to know more about her. Sorry for the novel!

So I'm like 3 years too late but here goes. Games these days have LOTS of writing put into them. Games like the Witcher 3 are a prime example of that. They figured out that you can tell a story more effectively if they give the target audience actual control over major decisions. Imagine if you were watching a movie and were able to select what the main character did at pivotal points during the story. It would make you resonate more with that character by the end right? That is kind of what they are going for. Not all games are like this. Obviously if you play sports based games you won't get a killer storyline lol. But yeah just a simple short comment on why games have so much more story than say back in the day where your princess was in another castle. :P

I'm very happy to see that you're becoming a big Witcher fan! This was the reaction I wanted for people don't even know what a Witcher is. Here's why I believe you would love the books and the games more than the show. Netflix really missed a lot of opportunities from the actual source material. I won't get into details but as a fan who read the books and played the games, the show was really hard to watch. Sapkowski wrote such a damn good story and it didn't need any tweaking or changes. I understand you have to cut out material from the books to make any show adaptation; but Netflix actually cut out many of the good parts that actually hurt overall story and world building. Honestly, in my personal opinion, the show runners, the writers and even the actors don't really know the source material and have no clue what they're doing half the time. Here's what the game's got right. CD Projekt Red did their absolute best to follow Sapkowski's source material. Their story is not perfect but they did their absolute best and even improved as the games went on. They had an obsession of detail to make sure Sapkowski's world came to life. The game constantly makes references to the books so if you read the books, you would actually have a better experience. Give the books and games a shot. You will not be disappointed.

It’s the first video i see on your channel. When it comes to stories in games there are two types of games. One kind of story telling game is linear which is like a movie but YOU ARE the main character. The other kind is multi choice story like in Witcher 3. Where you are the main character again but you can make your own decisions and change the story. I think that Witcher 3 is the best game of that kind. Cyberpunk 2077 game wise disappointed many players based on quality and the features that have been removed but it also has heart warming/breaking story and the trailers are also awesome

The best story-driven games have a vast and detailed world, flushed out through the game's narrative itself as well as additional lore found either in the game or in additional reading material. Sorry if I'm repeating anything here... A lot of people have gone over RPG games, in which you role play as a character. Sometimes it is a set character, sometimes it is one you get to invent. But there are lots of other types. There are platformer games, maybe the best known is original Mario Bros., where you get from point A to point B thru various challenges/enemies generally by jumping across platforms. Over-simplified, but close enough. There are puzzle games, self-explanatory. FPS (first-person shooters) also pretty clear, pew pew bang bang missions with the camera in 1st person perspective. Sports games. Racing games.That's just tip of the ice berg. Idk there's a lot. Many involve story, to varying degrees, but RPGs are typically the best examples of it. Some really good examples of video games with story are The Last of Us, probably my second favorite, and Horizon Zero Dawn, which holds my #1 spot. Both of which have sequels on the way now haha. I recommend the trailers for 1 & 2 for both, but also watching game playthroughs. I mean I recommend playing, but a gaming console is a hefty investment, especially if it's not your jam, so watching just to get the story could be fun. I'll see if I can find some links, just in case.

Many games do have their own story lines, histories and lore that help form the world in the game. Some, like The Witcher and The Last of Us, have a choose your own adventure style where every decision you make effects the games final outcome and difficulty of the game as you progress. The style of a games trailer is not indicative of the appearance in the actual game but more to relay how much time and effort the team has put into creating the background. Games like Jak and Daxter or Kiya are more action that follows a set story line, where no matter what you do, your quest objectives all follow the same outcome and you have to complete all objective to progress in the game. Where games like World of Warcraft allow you a certain freedom in side quests that have no actual bearing on the storyline and allow you to follow multiple story lines and play them out of order, depending on if you want to mess with them. There are games where the entire focus is nothing but combat (i.e. Soul Calibur, Tekken, Street fighter) that rewards you with little story but a lot of action. There are others where it's a test of skill like Mario Kart and others which require strategy (don't have an example, I hate strategy games :p) the point is games allow you to immerse yourself into another world where fantasy and reality collide. Despite playing an in game character, players are given a sort of God like role where you choose what actions your character takes and can choose from multiple options what your character will do, say or interact with NPCs (non-player characters) Trailers like these are a major hook to gamers because it introduces a new concept of more and makes them want to see what, in the game, would prompt such changes to occure. Think of a game as a book where you can control the protagonist and possibly alter the ending of the story Gaming allows players to explore their own set of skills and hone physical abilities that are otherwise lost to many of the older generations (such as insane levels of hand-eye coordination) but more than anything it grants them an easy escape from the stress and repetition of everyday life. Just like actual books the variety of games can be staggering and even overwhelming but generally have something for everyone. Want a few word games? Try scrabble or wordscapes. Prefer something more relaxed and meditative? There are various forms of Majong and solitaire. Or do you lean more towards FPS (first person shooter) call of duty, sniper and even several hunting games might be more up your alley. Even something as simple as a match 3 game can have a storyline it follows. But some of the most favored are combat like call of duty and choose your own adventure like Dragon Age, Skyrim and The Witcher

Yeah the Witcher 3 was a master class in game making. The incredibly dense world, lore and political state of the world. In the game you have the option to actually study the monsters and depending on how your Gerald is built you can take the things you learn and prepare accordingly with equipment, potions, bombs, and even craft and use oils on your swords that are toxic to different monsters. Few developers have crafted a game world so well. Even the side missions leave a lasting impact. In most games side missions are usually busy work to level up your character so you can progress through the main story. Don’t think I’ve enjoyed the Witcher 3 as much as any other game

yes, most video games have stories, some great, some not. There are 2 types of stories, the main quest, which is the overarching story and side quests, which are smaller stories, which usually dont have a big influence on the end of the game. Both types of quests are very well done in witcher 3 and its definitely worth playing, as well as its 2 expansions Blood and Wine amd Hearts of Stone, which add different main quests if you want more stories, which are in the witchers case even better then the main story of the base game. I would definitely recomment you playing it, even if you havent played video games ever before, beacause the witcher 3 has a bunch of great written stories.

The obvious downside of telling stories through games is you are limited to what you can actually do inside the game and the engine (code) the game runs on. The plus side most people who dont game do not understand is that you can make choices in games that affect the story, for instance if the "killing monsters" situation came up, you could choose to leave the woman to die or save her by killing the soldiers, but there would be some kind of consequences either way. Some games do stories better than most movies or shows, some dont even bother to try and just focus on gameplay (e.g. Mario kart) it depends on the game

I was 'not a gamer' like you until I started playing The Witcher 3 a few years ago. Now on my second playthrough with 470 hours invested and still discovering new thing I had not experienced before. A book or a movie can give you a great experience but nothing is as immersive and intense as playing this game. You are not reading a book or watching a screen, it feels like you are actually there, it is happening to you and every choice you make will have consequences for the rest of the game. I'm not very good at gaming so I play on easy settings, the characters music and stories are simply amazing. And we see more and more female gamers today, give it a try if you have the opportunity. Hey, I will say that is never too late to get into the gaming culture, so maybe one day we will watch you play this great game. About story in games, think of them as books or movies. Of course, there is games where the story doesn't matter at all, but the best ones, like The Witcher, have a very rich world building, lore, characters and a great team of people working to make everything work, it's really like a book. In those types of games, you can make choices that impact the story, like choosing to kill an important character or not, which only makes the story even more immersive. Also, most games nowadays have crazy cinematic trailers like this one, one just came out called "Assassin's creed: Valhalla", you should check it out if want.

It's not a movie, it's one of those "games" society sneers at us for enjoying. Games have become much LIKE a movie where you control the camera, the MC, and sometimes even how the story gets told... Some can pluck at your heartstrings in terribly wonderful ways. Also, they're much much longer than movies and contain MORE STORY, so they can be almost like choose your own adventure NOVELS. Many of us "Gamers" consider them better than movies for these and many other reasons. The question is, WHY don't you play? Different games all play differently, just because you were bad at one doesn't mean you'll be bad at another. I am not a very good gamer after 30 years of them, but I still enjoy them immensely. So could you, it's be fun to watch, because you really seem to appreciate good stories and humor, emotional development, AND YOU are fun to watch so I bet if you Lets Played, your channel would grow and you would gain otherworldly , vast experiences that you could never imagine and stories that could never be told through any other medium. As you are an author, I'd think you would WANT that in your life... you confuse me.

There are a great number of game with critically acclaimed stories. If you're curious about getting into it, but not buying a specific console, check out the cinematics from the games you may find interesting. In The Witcher III: Wild Hunt, you are given the opportunity to dictate the direction of the story through narrative choice and that is one of the highlights of being able to play the game for yourself. I always recommend Life is Strange or The Walking Dead for people that want a good story and are starting out with games. Also, check out more coverage on The Witcher games including the linked video for an overview of how the game works: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-YdHc3JZixRY.html

There are games out there like The Witcher 3, that are masterpieces. They throw hundreds of millions of dollars into it. It's so much better than movies :)
