I definitely clicked in to watch , when I saw your title. You know Iam a African American and I have love hockey since about the age of 9. Iam now 64. When I was 10 I built my own ice rink in my backyard. I bought goal nets and found ice skates ( witch was hard to do on the west side of Chicago). Hockey was broadcast back then on local television. I was and still am Chicago Blackhawk fan . Yeah back then Bobby Hull, Tony Esposito and Stan Mikta. Neighbors figure I had issues.

I'm always glad to hear hockey is spreading through ethnicity and cultures, we have a joke around here called the "native flu". Aka when predominantly white teams tend to show up a few members short vs predominantly native teams, the sheer tenacity and ferocity those guy show on the ice is amazing, to the point people call out sick from nerves 🤣

IMO hockey all the greatest aspects of the major sports into one incredible package. The physicality of football. The play development of soccer. The transition offense of basketball. And the occasional bout of pugilism. Plus it’s done on a learned form of mobility while carrying a weapon. Not other sport has live line changes which can create a ton of opportunity, not to mention a penalty box…so 5 on5, 5 on 4, 5 on 3, 4 on 3 and even 3 on 3 action is possible in a single game. There is nothing like high level hockey.

"Who's the best hockey team?" That's another beauty of hockey... It changes all the time. You will have teams that will be dominant for years fall out of the playoff picture and teams that were struggling for years become the next powerhouses. It's similar to most other sports where it's really difficult to remain on top, especially to win the Cup in consecutive years (let alone even win multiple championships in a 10 year span). If you can get to a game, even on an AHL, ECHL level, go and enjoy it! There's nothing like experiencing it firsthand.

A real hockey fan's answer will be their own home town's team, even if they're last in the standings. That's one of the beauties of the game, we'll rant on the dumb mistakes our team will make, we gripe about players (and coaches) not pulling their weight, but we'll stand behind our team! Hockey mom from time my kids were 5 and 7. I don't bet often, but when I do, I bet my kids' numbers from high school hockey. Quick story: We were at an away game back in the day, and one of my kids got three goals, three assists, and six penalties. It was that kind of game. His team needed a police escort to keep the opposing team's parents away so the kids could get back on the bus. It's skilled and intense and, yes, the moments of beautiful athleticism are unworldly.

To your who is the best team question -- My favorite team is the St. Louis Blues. Been a fan since the 90s when me and my brothers would watch games growing up. We won our first Stanley Cup in franchise history in 2019 after 52 years as a team. BUT, arguably the best team in hockey after two consecutive cup wins in 2020 and 2021 is the Tampa Bay Lightning. Love these hockey vids man.

San Francisco native 🌉 When I was a boy 👦, San Jose Sharks 🦈 did not exist. I visited Vancouver, Canada a lot then. The trips made me become a hockey fan. 🏒 The goalie's glove is bigger than a catcher's glove. Because you are in Indiana, you can go see the Chicago Blackhawks. Also , you can see the Detroit Red Wings, Columbus Blue Jackets. Hockey has players from the hockey nations as well as from nations that do not have hockey teams in the Winter Olympics! A player from the Philippines 🌴🌞 plays in the NHL! 🤯 On Martin Luther King Day this year (2021), the Boston Bruins retired number Willie O'Ree, the first black NHL player. Hockey is truly an international sport. If you take a side-by-side look, the dimensions for (ice) hockey, basketball and soccer are similar. Mission is the same: score more goals while preventing the opponent from scoring more goals. If you want great hockey, watch the NHL playoffs this year: all the bad teams take an early vacation while the good ones battle for the Stanley Cup title! 🏆

Huge fan let me tell you a few things to help you understand how great of a game it is. Those goalie pads weigh about 40 pounds. The fastest shot is well over 90mph. The trophy is so cool when you will The Stanley Cup they engrave all the players names on itand fighting is done, most of the time with respect and praise and appreciation from both teams. Best spectator sport by far.

Imagine how tough you have to be to play a sport with sticks, hard rubber pucks, blades as feet, where hits are allowed like in American football, where fighting is “allowed” like boxing. The control of the puck is incredible, the precision, the awareness of everything. Pucks going 100mph in average, players skating with 20 mph on knives. This sport is just incredible and this is why we love hockey.

The best teams right now are Florida (who play near Miami), Tampa Bay, Carolina (who play in Raleigh), the New York Rangers, and Colorado. The best part of it is that the NHL has a salary cap, so teams are constantly becoming better/worse, and no one team can dominate the standings year after year

I'll always remember going to my first Jets game back in the 90s before they left. I became a fan instantly! Probably my favorite time during a game is when you get 4 players, two from each team with penalty minutes. You know what's come'n? Three on Three hockey. I'm telling you, there isn't any sport that is more exciting, more intense, faster play than three on three especially in the NHL. I like five on five, but brother, when you make room on the ice and turn these professionals loose, holy cow there aint nothin more fun to watch. I've watched hockey for quite a few years, and I can't think of a single sport maybe besides baseball that takes the talent to perform like hockey. But baseball, and i luv me some baseball, is more exciting than hockey. No matter the level, from minores to pro to the Olympics. Luv it all. This includes womens hockey. Go team USA!

Go to a game. Everything changes when you go to a game. There's a team called the Indy Fuel that you can see at the fairgrounds. They're in the ECHL, 2 leagues under the nhl, but watching high level hockey at all is unreal.

Yo I live in Muncie Indiana, there are actually two minor league teams in Indiana, there’s a team In Indianapolis where you are, known as the Indy Fuel and there’s a team in Fort Wayne called the Fort Wayne Komets! I’ve seen them both and they are definitely worth checking out! Now it’s nothing like the NHL with the professionals but the tickets are cheaper and it’s still a real fun time! I highly recommend it!

It is hands down the fastest sport out there. You may not see it on TV, but if you go to a game you can see just how fast and physical it is. They are hitting like Ray Lewis, while going faster than Usain Bolt, and showing finesse/touch like Michael Jordan

You can only do a quick hand glove of the puck. If you carry it more than 1/2 second, you get penalized.

I can try and answer some of the questions you asked during the video. Can you catch/pass the puck with your hands? No, but you can catch the puck and drop it to your stick, Crosby was being creative within the rules. Kinda like the euro step in basketball. And who is the best team? History will say the Montreal Canadiens as they have the most championships. Currently, it would be the Tampa Bay Lightning as they have won back-to-back championships. As a Toronto Maple Leafs fan, we have the prestige of being a good team that always loses in the playoffs. 😢

Need to be more specific with catching puck with hand rule...you can, as long as you don't close the palm, with fingers, over the puck, you must immediately forward motion it down to ice...also, you can pass (move the puck) to a teammate with your glove hand, again, as long as the palm is open, not in grabbing motion covering the puck, or throwing motion...and also as long as it's in defensive zone (inside own blue line and receiver of puck in such fashion, is also stationed inside own blue line) If not the play will be blown dead.

You can grab the puck out of the air and give it to yourself, but not your teammate. That's called a hand pass and isn't allowed.

Right now the best hockey team (NHL) is the Tampa Bay Lightning and its arguable....also Im a habs fan :( , but yeah they won the last 2 cups. But the habs (Montreal Canadiens) Won 24 Stanley Cups. We lost in final last year against Tampa Bay. Montreal didnt made the final since 1993 (last cup Win).

Kind of neat that it ends with Martin St. Louis who has since retried from playing and recently replaced the coach for the Montreal Canadiens. Who are also close to the bottom of the league in the standings right now but who are also historically the most successful franchise in the NHL's history. Hockey you are just born into. You have to show that you want it. Then you have to have a family willing to support you because it's time consuming and expensive. Even then only a small fraction on players will make a living. Its like from birth you learn to hold your head up, then you roll over, then you crawl, stand, walk, run, then skate and finally hockey.

The best hockey team varies every 5-10 years. Except in the 90s it was arguably the Detroit Red Wing, all the way up to 2008-09. Playoffs for 25 straight years from 90-91 until 2015-16. Won 4 Stanley Cups and played in the finals 6 times all together. 6 President's Trophies, 19 Division Championships.

3:30 in hockey it is fully legal to smack/catch and release the puck AS LONG as you maintain control, and your play the puck, if it goes to a team mate, it is a hand pass and illegal.

Sometimes you have to watch normal highlights or games to really appreciate some of these great plays. I would recommend Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg highlights. They were really fun to watch with Detroit. Datsyuk alone might be the shiftiest, smoothest, slickest players in NHL history. A complete player. Never put up the numbers of some of the greats but if I had to get one goal to win the Cup and I could choose one player it would be Datsyuk.

Detroit has 11 cups in total and have a young exciting team. It’s probably the closest storied franchise to you. Gordie Howe ( Mr Hockey ), Pavel Datsyuk, Brett Hull, Steve Yzerman and the Russian 5 all played there. The brawl in hockey town took place there. The legendary coach Scottie Bowman coached there as well.

You can do that (catch with your glove) so long as you immediately drop it in the general direction it was already headed. EDIT: Also has to be already in the air. You can't pick it up off the ice.

Currently Tampa Bay Lightning are the back to back champs. All time it’s the Montreal Canadiens by a mile. They have won 26 championships. They were like the Celtics and lakers of the old days. Closest to you in Indy is probably St.Louis Blues or Chicago Blackhawks.

Indiana has a Big Ten university. Why not see a Big Ten hockey game sometime? I’d recommend going when they play Michigan. Chicago has a pro team. Blackhawks. Detroit has a pro team. Red Wings. Both located in States you could easily travel to from Indiana. To love hockey you need to understand the rules of the game first. Then, get to a game!!
