Scream is part 1 of the Dystopia trilogy, which is about cyber-bullying, hateful comments and people losing themselves in the (fake) online world. It is mostly showing the victim's perspective of (cyber)bullying, comparing it to a medieval witch hunt and a burning at the stake. The tree is the tree of language, and it grows black fruit for every hurtful thing people say. Note also the hand gesture, it is the devil's horns introduced by Ronnie James Dio as a symbol for metal, but it originally was a gesture in the middle ages to ward off the evil eye, tying into the witch hunt theme. I really enjoy the music, it's rock mixed with EDM. Dreamcatcher are always very creative, and they are in their own genre by this point.
It's not the 'devil's sign'. It's the sign you make to ward off the evil eye. In the context of the song the evil eye is the hatred coming from anonymous posters on social media. People who hide behind masks and use words that dig into you like sharp blades, but don't stop your breath. The wounds are inside. Society doesn't want to face what the internet has become and as Dami says, "Forget everything you saw Believe that nothing happened One by one, everyone goes crazy"
If you look carefully there are 7 persons with white clothes; 6 bare faced, one who constantly wears a mask. The 6 are members of the band, the 7th is a dancer that is a stand-in for the 7th member who was stuck in China during Covid-19 (they did not continue this in the second part of the trilogy however, and she's back in the third part). The mask symbolises the anonymity provided by the Internet; the trilogy is about online hate through different perspectives. The ending of this song is a dire warning; some of the victims of bullying become bullies themselves (hence why in the end they say that they want to make you scream). The witches symbolise the innocent victims of cyber-bullying. Just like during witch trials the victims were innocent.
Giving 3 stars but still "happily" lipsynching many parts of the songs, even korean lyrics and preparing yourself for some parts of the song, while not on your playlist. 😅Well it's a subjective opinions but I still find the rating a tiny bit surprising. For the info, "Scream" is the beginning of a new trilogy with a new sound for DC. One of the member was also missing during this comeback because of schedule conflicts (she was participating in a music surviving show in China and then was stuck there because of travel restrictions during COVID19 pandemy). If you are interested in the lore without spoilers for next title tracks, there is a Trailer/Story intro on their official channel. "Scream" is also a fan favorite and during concerts Somnias often go wild for this song (it is also a song that is often in the concert set lists). And DC are going to participate at the KCON Germany in Frankfurt this week-end (28-29 Sept 2024). Next song is "BOCA" which means mouth in Spanish and Portuguese. Thanks for the reaction and continuing with DC reactions.
(Kev here) I mean, I gotta say that I am really freakish when It comes to memorizing lyrics. I probably have hundreds of songs In my head, even If I didn't listen to them often. I enjoy songs for what they are, believe me or not. I never once was like "I'm gonna play scream rn" But If It randomly comes on, I can let It play through and enjoy It. I know some Dreamcatcher songs pretty well, because another friend of mine Is Into Rock & Kpop, I hear a lot of Dreamcather when I hang out with him lmaoo. & yeah I wanted to go to the KCON, but sadly I only knew about It after all the "cheaper" tickets were sold out..
dreamcatcher \:D/ the dystopia trilogy is a critique of social media. scream address online hate. if you keep this in mind you should be able to piece together some of the imagery. the dystopia trilogy is popular because of the incorporation of electronic elements so it feels the most 'kpop' of their title tracks. the nightmare series uses more classical rock elements so it's the least popular among kpop fans who generally don't like rock. that said, most of their b-sides are non-rock and branch into all genres.
stories of the Dreamcatcher . there was a time the group was self promoting , but she did not believe anyone would watch them and she was limited in living her Dream , But the World 🌏was Watching , and Destiny Blessed them with a Great Power ⚡to Live Their Dream for all Time ⏳.
(Kev here) mine would be SuA & JiU. I just think SuA Is amaaazing on stage (I saw them at the Kpop.Flex Festival here In Germany) & also love her personality. And JiU just has something so captivating to me, especially love her vocal tone. I don't know about Sef's yet😂
