New York actually has some great fishing... even in the city. Couple years ago I was catching sea bass right off the east river esplande. And central park has great catch and release fishing. Cool video!
When they run they run. Up until end of January, they come in huge schools, so catching 3-4 at a time isn't that hard. From end of January until about two weeks from now, they tend to go at it alone (based on what I read). They either filter feed in huge schools or they can hunt by themselves / small groups which seems is happening now. Last week the action was still phenomenal 2 hours prior to sundown in Sheepshead Bay. We only got a few today at night though. Look for high tidal coefficient, and incoming tide, starting at bottom of low (at least from my experience). If you want go again a few weeks from now during the spring run let me know.
If your neighbor is catching fish and others your something wrong with your rig. Maybe cheap brand or worn out fish don't see it anymore. This has happened to me and it's frustrating and would go home, but asked what type of rig they're using then I would do the same and WAM! now people ask me what. Sometimes just get out of that spot but you gotta have good quality sabikis.
