This video captures so many important aspects of hunting. Regardless of how long you’ve been hunting you learn something from every trip. Looked like a great mountain hunt! That’s the way it used to be in western North Carolina mountains...a gobbler or 2 in every holler. Not that way any more for the last few years. You’re doing good to hear one gobble on the roost much less call 1 in. We covered about 10 miles last Saturday on gated FS roads...didn’t hear a thing. Glad y’all are getting into them! Love watching y’all.

We work so hard for a shot and miss. I do that whenever I shoot at a walking turkey and after all these years I never get upset cuz of all the fun I had calling them in. Nothing beats hearing a turkey gobbling closer or coaxing a silent tom and hearing him walking in the leaves. Bowhunting deer is great but turkeys are sooo much more action and its not only at sunrise but can be all day. Great hunt!

Felt good going in the gas station seeing about 6 hunters for opening day in pa. Mossy oak hunting public hoodie on! And I have a new video to watch. I’ve been waiting for this Saturday. Seeing a turkey would just top it off now. Hopfully there talking. It’s 32 degrees!

Well I did end up getting a really nice tom. And he tasted fantastic. Cherry classic reverse hammer. Did him in. It was awesome. I had a hen yelping behind me and the tom actually yelped to! And I want to thank you guys. I’ve learned so much and to get one opening day in the woods. I give the hunting public a lot of credit. My first one I’ve called in on my own! And I got my biggest buck this year also. From watching the hunting public. I’ve learned a lot!

Man I keep thinking on a lot of these hunts if you had even just a hen decoy to pull em in a little closer I think video quality and shot quality would be just a bit better to get their attention. But smart public turkeys that’s probably the play. Heck of a season for y’all so far!

Congratulations on getting your bird after putting in the work, but also taking a shot that normally you would not have taken. I myself have shot at a gobbler that was too far, further than I thought 💭 as in 60-70 instead of 40.

I've been there a time or several when I was frustrated with myself for having shot when I knew better. But I've settled on this - I love doing something that still gets me so wound up that I occasionally make poor decisions. And, I'll always try to do better. Great hunt!

I’ve been trying for my first gobbler for a few years now, I have permission a few small properties in northern Ohio if you guys are ever up this way I’d love to take y’all out and just follow along and see how you guys do it from scouting to shooting. What time of day do you think you call in the most turkeys? Do you find there is a 9:00am lull in calling? What do you do during a lull if you have one? When is the tactic breakdown video coming? Very few people actually miss turkeys with lead 5's, They just fail to break the turkeys neck. 60% of my public land birds are riddled with copperplated 5's(lead patterns are big with flyers). I will never shoot lead myself at turkeys ever again.

I’m sorry but, slowing down the playback, looks like that was not a clean miss. Don’t know what’s not on video but how long did you look for it? Maybe should have notched the tag and called it a day. Reflect, learn what lessons are being offered and fight again another day with a stronger game. Plenty of other birds out there. You guys are good hunters and even better men. You’ve set the bar high for all of us. Observing Zach and his character, this will likely come up somewhere on the podcast with some humility and valuable self assessments shared. That split second has a way of working on you after the fact. Best to make it useful. Unique opportunity here to do that on a large scale.

agree, maybe they didn't show it on video, but I wouldn't want to hunt with people that only ran 20 feet, and then gave up. Plenty of animals don't leave a sign they are hit, but end up dying just out of sight.
