I'm not familiar with WoW but I played Wc3 religiously back in the day, from what I recall Arthas/The Lich king was pretty powerful like defeating illidan and probably more things that aren't coming to me and he pretty much made sylvanas into what she is (guess she got more powerful in WoW?). Also what happened to frostmourne *hungers* :( ... Sorry for the noob questions but it looks like the Lich king is severly nerfed.

@@ConroyOvNE While that is the Lich King, it's not Arthas. That guy is Bolvar Fordragon Upon the defeat of Arthas, the allied forces worried about the undead being released without control. Bolvar sacrificed his life and legacy by taking the throne and jailing the scourge in Northrend. Meanwhile the 'official' story is that Bolvar died during the campaign and so did the Lich King. The public would never know what truly happened that day. That's essentially where the quote "There must always be a Lich King" comes from.

Sylvanas Windrunner's story is actually quite a tragic one. She was once the Ranger General of Silvermoon, a protector, until the original Lich King, Arthas, invaded and slew her. He raised her into undeath and forced her to serve him. Eventually, she broke free of his control and became the leader of other freed undead known as the Forsaken. The Forsaken joined the Horde and had a somewhat tumultuous relationship with the other races. During "Wrath of the Lich King", Arthas was slain and Bolvar Fordragon (flamey dude here) sacrificed himself to become the new jailer of the damned, the new Lich King. Without a Lich King, the mindless undead Scourge would terrorize the lands. Sylvanas, seeing no more purpose to her life once Arthas was killed, threw herself off the top of this fortress here, Icecrown Citadel. She realized eternal damnation awaited her in death and took the aid of a race known as the Val'kyr to bring herself back to life. Everything she's done since has, in part, been to keep herself alive. However, it was recently revealed that she met a being known as The Jailer in death. The Jailer granted her these powers. In return, she would cause death and devastation to send more souls his way. The more souls sent to the Jailer, the more powerful he gets, the more powerful Sylvanas gets.

I was about to comment how it's upsetting to see how much context the cinematics leave out. Anyone who's not invested in the game's lore or the game itself will not be able to appreciate the characters as much as those who know the lore... I hope blizzard one day could make a ton of little animated shorts to piece together the story so far in Warcraft, for new players to get a really good idea of what is going on... Sadly I doubt it will ever happen as that would be a lot of work/money...

The original Lich King is Ner'zhul, not Arthas. Also does the Jailer really get more powerful the more souls he gets? Is that canon?...and if so why would he give that task to someone who has the power to create more forsaken, which would prevent him from getting more souls? If I recall the Jailer didnt whisper to Vol'jin, it was Mueh'zala. Then again Im not a lore guy so I can be missing something since i last looked into it. I guess Mueh'zala can be working for the Jailer but it hasnt really been clarified who he said "intervened".

I've been playing WoW for close to 15 years and I really loved seeing the reactions of people who have no prior knowledge to it. It's actually really refreshing, and it reminded me why I started playing all those years ago. Lately, I've felt a bit lost every time I tried playing, but you guys helped me remember why I love it. It's not about the mounts or the armor sets, or even having the highest item level (how we rate high-level armor), it's about the story and the crazy amounts of lore out there. So I really want to say thank you for making these videos and reminding me why I love this game so much.

She with breaking the helm of domination broke the separation from the afterlife. The realm of death. She actually used to be a Elf that the Lich King arthas (you can see him wrath of lich king cinematic) killed and created. When we defeated Arthas the Lich King, the current one Bolvar Fordragon took the helmet responsibility to keep the scourge from running rampant on the world. You can see him first in Wrathgate cinematic, then ICC ending cinematic in which he takes the helmet on. She is this powerful because after we beat Arthas the Lich King she killed herself and went to afterlife. WE are finding out now that she made a deal with someone there called the jailor, and sending all souls to the Maw (hell) No matter how good they are which is weakening the rest of the afterlife. And she is getting the Jailor and and herself more and more immense power because of this. SHe has always been bad ass. (she is undead and was leader of the undead). Before some could have beaten her, including varok saurfang who died fighting her as you saw already. (Wrathgate also lets you see what happens to his son who you saw dead in old soldier cinematic) Now she is all but invincible. Need anymore info just hit me up guys. Been playing WoW since Wrath of the lich king in early 09.. Know a lot of the lore and backstories and where things may go. Great reaction vods though. Keep em up.

Sylvanas' biggest motivator is most likely fear, shes forsaken, "undead" sort of. Not a zombie zombie, but she doesnt have a soul so when she dies "as she has once or twice before" she goes to this giant empty void abyss where theres just nothing. She hates it there and the few things that let her out of there are gone forever. So when she dies she dies and theres no afterlife for her. She sees dying that way as the ultimate hell and is willing to literally rip apart reality so that the worlds of the after life and the living world dont even work anymore. Shes very angry as well because last expansion she worked well with her enemies to bring down the legion, she was even made warchief without asking. The previous warchief told her to step up and be a leader, she didnt even want the position. How she handled her tactical retreat in legion, made some leaders of the opposing faction think she betrayed them and they hunted her for it. After battle for azeroth started the totally lost her mind, burned down an entire ancient civilization and apologizes to no one. She has no hope for herself to ever be at peace.

Just a few bits to help gauge how important this is 1. That's Sylvanas Windrunner turned into a banshee queen and who made a deal basically with death itself for extensible powers. 2. The helmet provides two controls to our world. It controls the Forsaken undead in Northrend and holds a barrier between our realm and the Shadowlands. It's broken now and therefore the barrier is too. 3. The Lich King aka the dude with the helmet, was installed after we molly wop the previous Lich King so that we have an ally installed as the controller of all of the Forsaken undead. That massive army is now free of the helmet and the Lich King. 4. With the barrier down, we now begin the adventure into the afterlife of WoW. The Shadowlands are the places you go when you die in Azeroth.
@brandonspengel5727
@brandonspengel5727 4 года назад
The setting of this cinematic is Icecrown - in the center of a continent called "northrend". It's another content on the same planet as the other cinematics you've watched for Battle for Azeroth - just the arctic cold north. The man she fought here was The Lich King. Using his power, with the Helmet of Domination she destroyed, he controlled (for the most part) all of the Undead Scourge on the planet. "There must always be a Lich King" is a famous saying in-game, as without one, the Scourge would run free and destroy all life on the planet. By destroying the helm of domination, she broke through the veil between our world and the "Shadowlands", essentially the afterlife. Her and her partner, a ruling entity inside the Shadowlands named "The Jailer", managed to break the cycle of life and death several years before. When a person/being dies, their soul would cross over to the Shadowlands and stand before The Arbiter. This being would pass judgment on the soul, based on their actions/choices during their life, and send their soul to one of five locations inside the Shadowlands. Every soul contains "Anima", an energy if you will, which then feeds/empowers whichever section of the Shadowlands they were sent to. The more powerful the soul, the more anima that is fed. All remains in balance, between life and death. When she and the Jailer broke this cycle, the Arbitor no longer judges the souls. All souls, and therefor all their anima, is fed directly into The Maw (normally where the worst of the irredeemable souls would go), feeding the Jailer directly - and by extension due to their partnership, Sylvanas. THIS IS WHY SHE IS SO POWERFUL. Every being that her and her war killed, on either side, has directly strengthened her due to the amassing anima. This is her motive. To break the cycle of life that has imprisoned all beings.

Her Name is Sylvanas Windrunner, formerly High Born Elf, and Protector of the Realm as General of the Ranger in Silvermoon. Forced by the Lich KIng to become Undead Banshee Queen. She was freed from the curse when the Lich King Arthas Menethil was killed. She is probably about 2500 years old. She has seen things and knows much more.

The man in the crown is named Bolvar Fordragaon, he took over the Crown of the Lich King when the previous one was killed, because it was essential that someone wear the crown to control the huge army of the Scourge undead. He is actually a good guy except when the power inside the helm manifests. By destroying the helm, Sylvanas opened a portal between the world and effectively the afterlife, the Shadowlands. It's where she has got enough power to do what she has done, by making some sort of deal with a powerful, dangerous figure in the Shadowlands. So next expansion, due later this year, we will all be going there to stop her from doing whatever she is planning and restore the world.
@raegorz
@raegorz 4 года назад
Also the original Lich King (Arthas Menethil) was the one who turned Sylvanas Windrunner into the Banshee Queen she is now. Her power has been resurrection. Raising the undead. However, over the last two expansions (Legion/Battle For Azeroth) she's been meddling with powers beyond the normal. She's made a deal with some sort of death entity which made the previous Warchief name her as the leader of the Horde. The previous Warchief being Vol'Jin. In his dying moments he heard a voice from the other side telling him to name Sylvanas as the new leader. Him being very spiritual; follows through with the command he thinks comes from the Loa spirits he adheres to. So now that she's abandoned the Horde after killing Varok Saurfang in a Mok'Gara (1 on 1 battle to the death) she clearly doesn't need the Horde for whatever she's got planned. She's abandoned the Army she had, and has now opened a rift into the Shadowlands which is basically a plane of existence between life and death. Not exactly Hell, not exactly Heaven. It's the spiritual plane that exists between these worlds. The thin veil. The upside down. Limbo. etc. We still don't know who she's working for or who she's made the deal with, or what her plan is. But ever since she was turned into a Banshee...she's revered death. She basks in it, and doesn't care for the living or life itself. She was at some point honorable but, her actions at Teldrassil have made her irredeemable.

Very good comments. And to add onto that the first lich king (lich king is whoever wears the crown) was Arthas as it has been said, he was alot stronger than the lich king you saw here. That’s why she managedto defeat him so easily, because the new lich king hasnt been able to wear the crown for long and have basically only been sitting on that throne awaiting eternity. Whoever wield the crown get massive magical(?) powers as you can see. And there always has to be a lich king like they said, the lich king has control of the creatures you saw her fight before the lich king. And there are many thousands more. So now since there is no lich king there is no control overthe creatures and they Will roam freely and attack anything.

The guy she is seeing is the new Lich King who is Bolvar Fordragon. Bolvar was a paladin who was dying when Sylvanas' forces launched the blight at both the Horde and Alliance. The Red Dragon Flight to destroy the blight burned everything in the area but Bolvar wasn't dead and he was burned up and because of the dragons he wouldn't die. When Arthas was defeated the undead had no one to control them so Bolvar volunteered seeing as he could not go back to living his life in the state he was in. He basically became the "Jailer of the Damned." His reaction to seeing Sylvanas stems from how he ended up the way he is.

So a little backstory on Sylvanas, the women that is really powerful. She was an elf in life, and was raised into undeath as a banshee by a Death Knight which is sort of like a Necromancer. Before she was killed though she was an accomplished general, and ranger. She was several thousand years old before she was killed and raised into undeath. She has been growing in power sort of behind the scenes, and in Shadowlands we are going to learn more about who gave her that power, and her motivations. She's a pretty complex character, she's not just pure evil, which is why a lot of fans really like her being she is not one dimensional. And that helmet she tore apart was sort of a barrier between the world of the living and the realm of the dead known as the Shadowlands.

I like the way she talked about the world being a prison because to her, being alive is a prison. She's been betrayed, turned undead, forced to kill her allies, abandoned by her original race because she's undead, forced to care for the entire undead race, then forced to take care of the hordes problem which has been never ending. She's died 3 times(betrayal, suicide, and during battle) and has been resurrected 3 times. She's been through so much and she can't catch a break.

World of Warcraft has had three different Lich kings (person who wears the crown) and the 2nd one turned Sylvanas into the banshee queen she is today (she used to be a ranger but got killed and resurrected as a banshee) There was a saying in the lore that “there must always be a lich king” since the lich king guards the realm between the “shadowlands” (dead people, monster etc) and the living world. But it speculated that Sylvanas made a deal with someone from the shadowlands to tear up the wall between them in exchange for greater power. I explain this a bit messy but check out Sylvanas warbringers cinematic to get her background explained abit and also check out the 2nd and most famous lich king “Arthas” from the wrath of the lich king cinematic

A 1500 word essay about Sylvanas Windrunner. She first appears in Warcraft 3 as a High Elf Ranger, but is killed in action by the Death Knight Arthas Menethil, who in turn raises her from the dead and turns her in to a Banshee, thus she becomes the self-proclaimed Banshee Queen, she is for a time bound to serve Arthas before she regains some of her power and eventually breaks free. After she's regained her powers she make a deal with a Dreadlord (a powerful demon) called Varimathras, their deal give her some control over the Undead, and she's able to produce and turn humans in to the Undead, however she does also bargin with a minor Human Lord to take back the capital city of Lordaeron, but she doesn't hold up her end of the bargain, after they've taken back the city she kills him, and together with Varimathras she creates the Undercity, which is a city in the sewers of Lordaeron, that's now a stronghold for the Undeads that are under her control (or rather the Forsaken that joined with Sylvanas after Arthas left them to roam free). Four years later, or rather by the time Classic WoW starts the Forsaken Undeads i.e. Sylvanas faction of Undeads, join the Horde which at the time include Orcs, Trolls & Tauren, and a few Goblins (although at the time, not playable), the Horde accept them in to their ranks, and the Undead in turn let the Horde enter Undercity which is very convenient for them as that's a strategically good location in the northern parts of the Eastern Kingdoms. In the begining of the Burning Crusade, Sylvanas talks with Lor'themar Theron the leader of the Blood Elfs (previously High Elfs) and convinces him to also join with the Horde, as they used to be friends he trusts her, and Thrall & the remaining members of the Horde accepts her offer and let the Blood Elfs join the Horde as well. And after that we're moving on to the Warth of the Lich King, and this is where Sylvanas starts to take a more active role in the story again, she is furious, she hates Arthas more than anyone else, Arthas who's now the Lich King have not been idle, he's been forging and forming the Scourge, an army of Undeads, on top of Icecrown Citadel is where he resides now where he controls a massive army of the dead, he have a huge arsenal at his disposal, Undead Abominations, Lich Lords, Crypt Fiends, Bone Lords, Undead Dragons, and more, on of the key moments for Sylvanas is the event at the Wrath Gate, here there are three key players, Dranosh Saurfang (Saurfang Jr.) dies and is ressurected as a Death Knight (and a boss), Bolvar Fordragon the Paladin is being captured and tortured by Arthas, and last is Sylvanas, she's been betrayed by Varimathras and some of his underlings, he's however defeated by Thrall, and flees to the Twisting Nether... back to Sylvanas, although she just had a setback happening to her, she's not discoraged, if anything that motivates her cause even more, she joins the assault on Icecrown Citadel by leading a special task force (i.e. players) through a set of three dungeons (the Forge of Souls, Pit of Saron & the Halls of Reflection) in order to infiltrate and gather intel about the actual Icecrown Citadel, after Arthas is killed by the players (becuase it's a Raid) Sylvanas kills herself by jumping off of Icecrown, however she's told by three Valkyries that her time is not yet up, that she still have a role to fulfill, and as such is reanimated by them and they take her place in hell, and she returns more powerful than she was before, after Arthas was killed, Bolvar (who we mentioned before) have taken his place as the next Lich King. During the Cataclysm, Thrall appoints Garrosh Hellscream as the new Warcheif for the Horde, he doesn't get along with Sylvanas, but they have some fun interactions during a questline, during this era Sylvanas assaults and captures large parts of Gilneas, a former Human (now turned Worgen) kingdom, she murders Liam Greymane, who's the son of Genn Greymane who in turn is friends with Varian Wrynn, the king and leader of the Alliance... however besides that she's now developing a new plague that's more efficient in turining stuff in to the Undead, and she's also recruited parts of Arthas's army which means that she's able to control even more powerful Undeads and in large masses as well, on top of it she also controls Valkyries which serve as her "extra lives". During the events of Mists of Pandaria she's mostly inactive, however she does take part in the Siege of Orgrimmar after Garrosh has gone berserk, and Vol'jin is appointed as the next Warchief for the Horde, Sylvanas doesn't particularly approve, but she doesn't complain either, Vol'jin is easy for her to play around with, and after the events of Siege of Orgrimmar, Garrosh is placed on trial for commiting a bunch of warcrimes, however he flees back in time to an alternate timeline, which starts Warlords of Draenor, Sylvanas is once again mostly inactive during this era, but it's speculated that when that occured, she was gathering more resources for herself, and powered up some more. Next up is the second Legion invasion, now Sylvanas starts to take a more active role again, she together with Varian Wrynn & Vol'jin take the lead and battle on the Broken Shore, it's a huge loss for both the Alliane and the Horde, the Alliance loses Varian Wrynn, and the Horde loses Vol'jin after being overrun by Gul'dan & the Burning Legion, after the battle against the Legion, Sylvanas is appointed Warchief of the Horde, Vol'jin had before he died seen a vision by whom he thought was the Loa of Death Bwonsamdi (which later turns out to not be the case) but regardless of that he does speak to Sylvanas right before he dies and tell him of his vision, and that's how she becomes the Warchief, futher more in Legion, she goes to Stormheim, where she threatens and attepts to bind Eiyr the Queen of the Valkyries to her will, that would've made Sylvanas next to immortal, however she's interrupted by Genn Greymane, she does wound him, but decides to retreat rather than stay there, she is after all still weak to Holy powers, despite being as powerful as she is, Holy places are still hazardous to Undeads as herself, for the rest of Legion she still seeks more power, and she's reunited with her older sister Alleria, who's been missing for a very long time, they also have a third sister, Vereesa, the three of them join together for the first time in a very long time, during their reunion they decide to go to their home in Quel'Thalas, after their reunion they decided that it's best if they all go their seperate ways, Vereesa returns to her family, Alleria re-joins the Alliance together with her husband Turalyon, and Sylvanas is still at this point the Warchief of the Horde. Shortly after that however, is the start of the fourth war also known as the Battle for Azeroth, it starts after some Goblins have found a new powerful mineral which is called Azerite, this new mineral appears to be so powerful that both the Horde and the Alliance want this resource, so they can build powerful warconstructs, and weaponize it, done and done, Sylvanas talks to the leader of the Goblins, Gallywix, who make sure that the Horde can harvest it en masse, with this Sylvanas launches an assault through Ashenvale and Darkshore, and takes the entire land up until the northern most beach, on the beach she tell her soldiers to burn Teldrassil, the Night Elfs home and world tree is entirely destroyed, this leads to the Alliance retaliating and assault Undercity, which is destroyed by Sylvanas in an attempt to trap the Alliance soldiers inside, including Anduin Wrynn, Genn Greymane, Alleria Windrunner & Jaina Proudmoore (who's able to teleport everybody to safty). After that battle Sylvanas returns to Orgrimmar, where she's set up a strike squad in order to locate and rescue Princess Talanji & Prophet Zul who are held prison in Stormwind City, they come from Zandalar a Troll Kingdom ruled by King Rastakhan, Rastakhan in turn have struck a bargain with Bwonsamdi the Loa of Death, who really dislikes Sylvanas because as an Undead, and with the power to raise the dead, she's been able to hold on to spirits, spirits that should've went to Bwonsamdi, which he of course doesn't approve of, since she's "cheating the system", which nobody knows of though is that she has secretly struck a bargain with a character called "The Jailor" who we will see more of in Shadowlands... and it's because of all of these lost souls that she's been able to become as powerful as she is.

The Warcraft/World of Warcraft franchise lore goes back to the RTS games from the 90s-00s, with World of Warcraft taking of the MMORPG format for players in 2004. Nobbel87 has a youtube with literally HOURS of lore on the major characters of the game. The ones you see here are The Lich King(Bolvar Fordragon) and Sylvanas Windrunner. Bolvar here is Lich King 2.0, Arthas Menethil was the first. If you really want to see more of the story/lore out would highly recommend that channel.

Sylvanas's story is one of the most complex stories in WoW. Blizzard themselves always called her a morally gray character but...that kinda ended when she destroyed the home of the night elves of 10,000 plus innocents. What she did here, was literally broke the veil between the living realm and the realm of death.

It is interesting seeing your reaction to this. It's cool, that you don't know the backstory and the incredible significance of her defeating the Lich King. So many stories in the World of Warcraft Universe that are linked in this cinematic. I was lucky enough to see this live the first time it was aired at Blizzcon this year. Thousands and thousands of dire hard fans seeing it for the first time. It was truly epic! The audience reaction was unreal! Thats the Lich king, he was probably the most popular villain, well that was bolvar, the third one, and he shouldn't have lost, but he controls the undead and by breaking that power, she gained access to the shadowlands to see her actual acquaintance called the jailer. But the reason Bolvar was lich, was after the fall of arthas on top of icecrown, someone had to control the dead, and he was already in pain due to his condition ( how he is molten ) and he became the litch.

So a little backstory; Sylvanas was originally a high elf, but was raised to be a banshee by the last Lich King, Arthas. Players of Wow beat Arthas several years ago, but we were warned then that there must always be a lich king to contain the undead, or they would wash over the world unchecked. A man named Bolvar took up the crown, and became the 'jailer of the damned (the big guy). From what we can gather, Sylvanas is trying to free the world from the cycle of life and death, and she is serving a being in the land of the dead.

But there is a Warcraft Movie, that movie tells part of the story from like a long long time ago, like 50 years or something? Ok, (not so) quick catchup. Shadowlands is the afterlife. The guy she fought is the Lich King. He controls the Scourge, which ares the undead on Azeroth. In the second expansion, Wrath of the Lich King, we defeated the original Lich King, Arthas. This guy, Bolvar, took his place and put on the helm so that he could control the Scourge, otherwise they'd go wild and attack everyone. That was his sacrifice to save the world. He originally fell in the same fight as Saurfang's son while attacking Arthas, which you saw in the BfA cinematics. He basically died in a poison cloud, but then some helpful dragons came and burned up the poison with their fire of life. That's why he's burnt and burning on the inside. The dragon fire is what keeps him alive. When he turned it blue, he was using the frost lich power of the Helm of Domination instead of his own power. You can see the story in "The Wrathgate" and "The Fall of the Lich King". ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-LwngFEIg8Kw.html The Wrathgate (Remastered) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-N4BCLP_sojs.html The Fall of the Lich King Intro (Remastered) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8MUc-rQD8j0.html The Fall of the LIch King Ending (Remastered) They reference the Fall of the Lich King cinematic pretty heavily here. "But no king rules forever" is a direct quote. The last Lich King, Arthas, is the one who killed Sylvanas and raised her as a banshee. She almost stopped him invading her homeland, and was so angry at her for resisting so much that he turned her into undead and had her parade before her people to break their spirit. But later when Arthas was fighting someone else in the frozen north while she was on another continent, he was distracted enough that she was able to break free from his control. Then she helped a bunch more undead Scourge break free as well. They newly freed Scourge tried to return to their families and allied human kingdoms, but the humans were terrified and disgusted and tried to kill them. So instead they made Sylvanas their "Banshee Queen" (aka The Dark Lady), and called themselves The Forsaken. They soon after joined the Horde, and Sylvanas was instrumental in getting the last of HER original people, the High Elves/Blood Elves to join the Horde instead of the Alliance, who they had been part of before. Sylvanas' main goal and purpose in unlife was to kill Arthas. Once we defeated him, she decided she had no other reason to live and jumped off the tower that this fight took place on. But she ended up in a torturous abyss realm called "The Maw", and met the "ruler" there, called The Jailer. She was quickly resurrected, though, by some of Arthas most powerful servants, the Val'kyr (Valkyries), who wanted her to lead them. Two of them took her place in the abyss and sent her back. For years, we've thought her main goal was to never die and never go back to the afterlfe, and she has sacrificed another Val'kyr to come back to life another time since then. But it turns out she has another mission. We've learned that the afterlife is... broken. Instead of going to a being called the Arbiter to find out what afterlife realm they will go, souls that have been dying recently are all sent to the Maw, which is a place of no return for the worst, irredeemable souls. This influx of souls is making the Jailer very powerful, but starving the other Shadowlands realms of power and life force. We don't know yet if the Jailer is the one who caused the afterlife to be broken, or if he's trying to fix it, but Sylvanas is working for him. And it's HIS power she used to kill Saurfang and take the Helm of Domination off the new Lich King, Bolvar and to break it. Her whole reason for starting Battle for Azeroth was to kill as many people as possible to empower the Jailer and, by extension, herself. Defeating Bolvar and having the strength to break the helm was her goal all along. Apparently the helm was made in the Shadowlands, which is why it can control the undead and why breaking it broke the veil between life and death. Now we have to find out WHY the machine of death is broken, who broke it (The Jailer? The Arbiter? The Titans? Or was it something WE did at some point?), and set it right again.

The dude in this clip is not Arthas though, Arthas was Defeated many years ago. This dude here is the just guy who is sorta the keeper of that helmet. By destroying that helmet she created a rift between the natural world and the shadowlands. Kinda like a land of the dead sorta thing. Its more complicated than that for sure, but thats the gist of it.

Lich King she fights (Bolvar Fordragon) is actually a very good character and died in Wrath of the Lich king (Wrath Gate battle video). He died, was ressurected by the life dragons fire and took the helm to control the mass amounts of undead running rampant. The previous Lich King Arthas (at the time much more powerful than Bolvar was due to the weapon and souls from kills) killed Sylvanus years ago and raisd her. That's why she says "Usurper sits". You actually work with his daughter in the recent expansion. She doesn't know he's the lich king (was).

basically the lich kings helm controls all the undead on the planet and is extremely powerful, when she breaks the helm she shatters the veil between the realm in which they are in (azeroth) and the realm of death (the shadowlands) she has been on a crusade across azeroth starting wars for the last DLC basically so people die. the more people that die, the more souls that are sent to the shadowlands, the more powerful she becomes because of who her master is, i wont spoil too much but he has alot to do with death and the shadowlands

Super simple explanation: The cinematics you have reacted to the last couple of days takes place on Azeroth, the home planet where most of Warcraft events take place. The sky at the end is a rift in to the world/realm of the afterlife, "Shadowlands". We still don't fully understand how Sylvanas so powerful that she could win against Bolvar, the 2nd Lich King. She is supposed to be working with a mysterious entity within the Shadowlands, thats the source of her newfound powers.

So there's the very quick backstory of who the Lich King was up until the point of this cinematic: Prince Arthas of Lordaeron became the Lich King when he sought power to destroy the undead armies of the Scourge. He found the sword known as Frostmourne that held the essence of the original Lich King. It slowly drove him mad and the Lich King took over Arthas completely. After Arthas had invaded the Eastern Kingdoms he turned Sylvanas from a Night Elf ranger into the Banshee Queen during a battle when invading his father's kingdom and turned "The Capital" of Lordaeron into a city of undead, which Sylvanas later turned into the Undercity and filled it with sentient undead called The Forsaken. The Scourge is essentially an army of brain dead minions doing the bidding of the Lich King and The Forsaken are people who still remember their lives after being turned into undead and they want nothing to do with the Scourge. When the Lich King was eventually defeated at the end of the Wrath of the Lich King expansion, Frostmourne was destroyed which is why you see the Lich King wield a hammer in this cinematic. Bolvar Fordragon, who was horribly burnt after a battle against the Lich King and kept as the Lich King's personal torture victim, willingly put on the helmet and became the new Lich King. He knew that the undead Scourge would otherwise run free without direction and destroy the world of men. He sacrificed himself to save the world. After Sylvanas had abandoned the Horde, which you saw in another cinematic, she went to Icecrown to confront the Lich King, and that's where this cinematic starts off :)

There is so much lore that surrounds the characters from this game. The franchise has been around for a long time and spans many different games, books, and other media. You should lookup "Sylvannas Windrunner" online and just read about her history. Oh and you're right about the Whitewalker comment. They are all undead and under the control of the Lich King who is featured in this trailer. Sylvannas is undead too, but she and her people are not under the Lich King's control People have pieced together "movies" of a sort that put together all the cut scenes that happen during the game. Parts of those "movies" are as beautiful and detailed as the trailers are because some of the cutscenes are premium arcs in the storyline. There's also World of Warcraft movie. It's not this particular story, but the story of when the orcs first came to Azeroth through the portal. It's not exactly canon, but it's pretty faithful and entertaining.

Its great to watch these videos - there is over 20 years of backstory going into these cinematics so its interesting to see what you guys do and don't pick up on. Very interesting to see how you reacted to seeing Bolvar on his throne (the Lich King in this video), assuming he was evil or the devil - when in reality he was previously one of the heroes of the Alliance and shouldered the burden of becoming the new Lich King once the old one died in order to essentially save the world. It changed him, he's no longer good per say, but he's definitely not evil like the previous Lich King was. There is actually a ton of nuance in quite a bit of WoW's storyline if you make the connections.

We have wanted the WoW Cinematic team to do a movie for the longest time. They did do a Warcraft movie and it was great but it was way back in the story back when the Orcs came over and fled from Dreanor as the world was dying. Sylvanas has been a long standing character and she has now been revealed to work for the Jailer who is the Big Boss in the Shadowlands which is the realm of Death. Sylvanas has died multiple times and even once threw herself off of Ice Crown Citadel which was where this cinematic took place. It was there she was tortured and killed and raped, etc by Arthas the preceeding Lich King. The Lich King you saw get dethroned was Bolvar who is a good guy and sacrificed himself to wear the crown to control the undead scourge. Sylvanas has seen what awaits her on the other side and has been trying to escape it ever since. She has Valkeries that take her place on the other side when she dies and she is down to 3-4 left. So she is trying to break the engine of death further and prevent her own demise.

To get some backstory about the big dude in this trailer... you should REALLY watch the WOTLK Cinematic & Warbringer Sylvanas. It will give you some story behind how this character works in the warcraft universe. Icecrown (the tower) & Lich King is pretty much the gate between life and death. The helm of domination contains most of the power (the one she broke) making the link between the worlds break. There hasnt been any confirmed reason how she got this new power she has more than that she works with someone called the Jailer in this new "after life" world, but he probably gave it to her. There is a few theories that Sylvanas did everything on Azeroth to get as much people killed as possible, getting more of this energy into the realm of death for her and her "master" to use. She pretty much tricked both sides to kill each other. Shadowlands is the location all souls and the energy(anima) travels to after death. You can say that Shadowlands is the heavens of the warcraft universe but its split it different sections. if you died an honored death and did good with your life, you may end up in something that reminds you of Olympus. If you were a bad boy... well, there is also some nasty parts of this realm.

Whoever wears the crown has the power of the Lich King, who rules over the scourge and can bring back the dead. Think Zombies, but you're still you) and she has kinda resented the living and her situation since. But she was keeping herself in check for a while... she is not longer holding back though. When she said "this world is a prison, and I'm going to set everyone free", she meant the world of the living. The sky exploding above her was the reflection of this world in death (you could see the spires meeting at the top. Kinda like the Upside Down from Stranger Things) Since the Lich King had the power to bring back the dead to battle for him, and she broke the Crown, since kinda broke the rift between the world of the dead and the living. Sylvanas has one of the best stories in the game! She used to be a "good guy" but everything was robbed from her by the 2nd Lich King Arthas (The guy she defeated is the 3rd and last Lich King). She used to be his slave until she broke free. The Horde is actually the "Bad Guys" I suggest you guys watch the Warcraft Movie. That basically shows how everything started. In my opinion Sylvanas actually saved the Horde and I'm sure others will disagree. The previous leaders all fled from responsibility and that caused more death and hardship. The Horde was basically split before she came along to unite it. And in order to do so she had to rule with an iron fist. Its a very long story, with multiple hours of cinematic and story telling. But if you really are interested in it, i suggest watching all the cinematic in order to get the whole picture. Overall, the lore is what keeps me coming back to the game and clock thousands of hours playing. So TLDR sylvannas used to be an elf. One of the most powerful. She fought a battle against the lich king, lost amd was turned undead. When she was brought back she was a banshee upon seeing all of her people dead or dying she screamed. Well a banshees wail does massive destruction and basically killed anyone who was still alive. She ended up becoming free of the lich king and through us killing him in ICC she got her revenge. The old lore and new lore split here. Old lore was she killed herself after that by jumping off that tower in the video but was brought back to life by the valkyrie as she was needed to stop another evil. In the new lodge she never jumped. The guy she ripped the crown off of was who took the lich kings place. There always has to be a lich king to control the scourge. Sylvannas killed bolivar easily as he was merely. Place holder. The void lords are the real threat they are powerful and who sent the old gods. They are the opposite of the light. They seek to destroy all and it is said the only thing the void fear or see as a threat is sylvannas, as the only army that cant truly be stopped is the army of the undead or scourge. Everytime someone dies another is added to their ranks. Something to keep in mind

looking foward to reactions to the cinematics to come. Also, the guy is not evil, his name is Bolvar Fordragon he was a paladin who sacrificed himself to keep the scourge (undeads) in control by becoming the Lich King after Arthas the former Lich King died. Because always has to be a Lich King to control the undead otherwise the undeads will go crazy and attack Azeroth. And on this cinematic she broke the Helm of Domination so now theres no Lich King and the undeads are loose

That's The Lich King (Bolvar Fordragon, the third lich king) and no she isn't a friend of his, she is a enemy to him . Because Bolvar has a powerful will he has not summit to the evil of the helm of domination (the spirit and mind of the lich king) instead he has used his will power to hold it back and has even used it and his undead scourge to fight the burning legion (infinite army of demons). Sylvanas just ripped a whole into the shadowlands (afterlife......she basically cracked open heaven and hell) she made a deal with a death and was trying to feed everyone to the maw (hell).

You guys definitely must react to the three Warbringers videos! The three videos are titled after each featured character: Sylvanas, Jaina, and Azshara. Any order for these is good.

Sylvanas is undead. A Banshee. She just ripped open a portal to the - Shadowlands, Afterlife, World of Death... her Powers already seem to come from there. She is freeing her world, Azeroth, from life - and death. The new expansion for "World of Warcraft" will send players into the realm of Shadow. (Where Lord Saurfang, killed by Sylvanas magic, is looking to find his son (f.e.).) BTW: She did all that killing on Azeroth, to become more powerful... The souls of the slain seem to be her source of power, I think maybe the "Tree of life" had to burn, because of that.

They did make a Warcraft film. It kinda flopped stateside but was a huge success in China. But if you liked these cinematics you'd probably enjoy the film as well.

Lich King made Sylvanas the evil banshee you know her as, by wrestling her immortal elf soul from her corpse, as she died a guardian of her elf kingdom, before it fell to the undead.

So, few things. No, that's not 'her Kingdom'. It's not even a Kingdom, it's a fortress where the Lich King rules over the undead and holds them in check. Without his control, they would spread across the world destroying everything. No, she doesn't think she's doing anything she does "For the greater good". She is currently one of the most hated characters in the Warcraft community because she used to be a strong willed character who, despite everything suggesting she should be a villain, she stood with "The good guys". But ever since Battle for Azeroth, her character has simply become something where her goal is to destroy all life to become more powerful, she does nothing but look down on everyone, and she is now ridiculously powerful for no reason other than because they needed a new villain. It was even said at the start of Battle for Azeroth that she has "Made life her enemy" The guy she was fighting is Bolvar Fordragon, the Lich King. No, he's not evil. Quite a while ago, the Lich King (Arthas) was killed, and as I said before, without the Lich King's control, the undead (The Scourge) would run rampant. Bolvar, who looks like he does because he was burned alive by dragons, took the crown and wore it, to become the new Lich King. When he did so, he said "Forevermore, I will be the jailor of the damned". It is his job to keep the Scourge in check. She's not 'going around conquering' anything. She was the leader of the undead who were freed from the Lich King (Arthas), and they were members of the Horde. This meant she was one of the leaders of the Horde, and when the last Warchief (Vol'jin) died, spirits told him that Sylvanas is to be the next Warchief. The Warchief is sort of like the leader of the ENTIRE Horde, while you also have the different leaders of each race, like Orcs, Trolls, Goblins. It turns out though that the 'spirit' who told Vol'jin to name Sylvanas as the next Warchief worked for the Jailor, who is also who Sylvanas works for now. Now, because of her emotional outburst in the last cinematic where she said "The Horde is nothing", she lost control of the Horde, and now it's pretty much just her on her own. You also keep talking about 'Kingdoms' and 'Realms' and stuff. They all live on the same planet, called Azeroth. This cinematic takes place in "The Frozen North", a Continent called Northrend. Her kingdom was originally in the Eastern Kingdoms, a continent where most of the Humans live. The last Cinematic you watched where she killed the Orc took place at Orgrimmar, which is on the Western Continent called Kalimdor. Orgrimmar is the Orc's home city, but is also the center of power for the whole Horde (The first Warchief of this Horde was an Orc, named Thrall. He was the Orc who stood with the one Sylvanas killed in the last cinematic) Please stop pausing the video to talk about "What she's probably doing". You are trying to make sense of it by saying what you think is "Obviously going on" and you are failing at it so badly. Just... watch the video. I can assure you. Nothing Sylvanas does makes sense anymore and no guesses you have about "What she's probably doing" will be right. She's terribly written, and where once she was a character who defied all expectations, now she just constantly does things to spite people who talk back to her (She burned an entire 'world tree' with thousands of people on it because an elf told her that she 'can't kill hope'. So she said 'can't I?". She lost the Horde because Saurfang said "You keep failing" and she got angry.) And now she says edgy goth things like "This world is a prison". I'm pretty sure the person writing her story is a 15 year old suffering from extreme depression in highschool.

They did do a live action, mostly, movie called Warcraft. It was alright, but tried to do way too much in too short of a time. Blizzard's CGI and movie department though; as you have seen from these cinematics, are nothing short but amazing. People have been asking for them to just do straight CGI full movies for a long time. If you want more good examples check out their Overwatch cinematics; those are also incredible.

Sylvanas is not evil. she's been twisted by the Lich King Arthas but she's truly good inside. she has even tried a far more peaceful approach but the alliance messed it up. I can't wait to see what Blizzard does to show everyone exactly why she did what she has done.

To be honest, its hard to do reaction videos to something where you don't have the full picture and know what the backgroundstory is. The warcraft lore is really vast and Sylvanas herself got some of the best character lore in the warcraft universe, so you don't really do her/it justice. Especially with Battle for Azaroth and Shadowlands, since the cinematic are build on both books and in-game lore, and so this trailer is the conclusion of what has happened in the game over the span of almost 2 years. I can highly recommend reading the books, or just watch all the cinematic (From World of Warcraft: Vanilla -> Burning Crusade -> Wrath of the Lich King -> Cataclysm -> Mists of Pandaria -> Warlords of Draenor -> Legion -> Battle for Azaroth -> Shadowlands :) Or if you'd rather watch some lore videos with great explanation, go and watch Nobble87's videos, I can highly recommend those :)

Icecrown sits on the northern land mass of Azeroth the world the game takes place on. The crown kept the undead scourge in check and under one beings control so with it broken they are now going to just run rampant.
