the Lich King had that impending doom like there was no escape from his influence that every war: win or lose is always a loss and the agents who were either scared or wanted power betrayed the living for the dead, even when one thought we finally would face his fortress we were denied entrance and hope would be lost or delayed... The Lich King was an amazing enemy to face and the doors of Icecrown felt like the chill between cold and fear couldnt be discerned. Arthas Menethil (a paladin and crown prince of Lordaeron) was investigating the spread of a strange disease in his kingdom. He was aided by his mentor, Uther the Lightbringer, and his close friend, the mage Jaina Proudmoore. They would learn that the disease would kill those infected, followed by their reanimation into undeath. A demon named Mal'Ganis would eventually claim responsibility for the spread of this plague and taunted Arthas into stopping him. At this point, Arthas chooses to kill all of the inhabitants of the city of Stratholme, who have consumed plagued grain planted there by Mal'Ganis and his followers. Both Uther and Jaina object to this decision and abandon Arthas, who remains steadfast and carries out the deed alongside his loyal soldiers. This begins the fall from grace for Arthas Menethil who, in his obsession to stop Mal'Ganis and save his people, takes up a cursed runeblade known as Frostmourne (seen in this cinematic) believing it would give him the power he needed to achieve his goals. It is implied that Arthas dominated the Lich King's essence and he (Arthas) ends up taking the 'Lich King' title for himself. In this cinematic, we see him awaken from his slumber, gathers the Scourge forces scattered throughout Northrend, and raises a fallen dragon, Sindragosa, into undeath. He now plans to finish the job he started in Lordaeron, wiping all life from the planet and raising them as his undead slaves. Relevant to future videos that you guys might react to are: 1) the helmet worn by Arthas in this cinematic (the Helm of Domination), which is thought to be a powerful artifact that might be housing the spirit of the original Lich King, Ner'zhul, and which brings the wearer incredible powers over necromancy, and 2) the runeblade, Frostmourne, which captures the soul/spirit of those murdered by it.
@@alextsukishima7666 the only sibling of Arthas' that I was aware of is his sister Calia. Additionally, Uther was visibly older than Arthas. If they were brothers, Arthas wouldn't have been the one being groomed for the crown, I don't think.
Arthas’ story is so good omg hes the best antagonist. You gotta know his story to even really realize what his father is talking about in the cinematic. I really like this cinematic cus its also the first one that tells a story with a deeper meaning, and it looks amazing for especially being made in 2008
The voice over was also kind of ironic, since Arthas killed his father and destroyed his kingdom, and then became the lich king. He had been dormant encased in the ice for years until waking up at the start of the expansion.
The thing is his story is not ended.There are too many mysteries to his death.His soul was bound to frostmourne,and destroyed ,and if u play the game has been reforged into several weapons.Also his body is missing.And now with shadowlands its quite unknow,after all his last word were i see only darkness

The same thing he does here when he pushed away snow before raising Sindragosa. Y'all should react to World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade, the first expansion. Wrath of the Lich King, the second expansion is my favorite of the WoW cinematics and xpac, there's so much beauty to it, especially when Arthas woke up Sindragosa... So glad y'all reacted to this! In terms of the brief history... Arthas was a crown prince, whose people were being attacked by the Undead. He travelled to a land to attack the undead and found the runeblade, Frostmourne...and driven by vengeance, he took the blade to "defeat" the undead, but the blade pretty much drove him to madness and he eventually heeded the call of the Lich King, who resides in the helm he wears in the cinematic... There's a lot to explain, but that's a super quick explanation.

The Lich King was the "big bad" of that expansion. His story was told to you by many others, so I'll focus on the more "practical" parts of it. The whole expansion is focused on stopping him, and by the time the next expansion arrives we already fought him, so you'll miss it unless you watch some other stuff. If you want more of his story, I recommend watching "The Wrathgate", "Patch 3.3: Fall of the Lich King", and then "Fall of the Lich King Ending." They'll give you enough context to understand what's happening, and *IT'S IMPORTANT THAT YOU WATCH AT LEAST THE LAST OF THOSE 3 BEFORE THE LAST EXPANSION'S CINEMATIC TRAILER. "I feel like none of the elves have a chance." Absolutely true, this guy right here, Arthas, personally marched into the kingdom of the elves, Quel'Thalas, with an undead army, and butchered about 90% of the high elven population.
When Arthas was born, his father, King Terenas Menethil of Lordaeron, dreamed that he would become a holy weapon against evil. Instead, he became a warped, perverted representation of everything his father hoped he would become -- as perfect a weapon FOR evil as you could ever imagine. The story of Arthas is an amazing tragedy.
He was still fighting for good, just in his own, genocidial way, his plan was to make everyone an undead so that they could kick demon asses because for some reason, undead are somewhat resistant to demons, also undeads are somewhat resistant to old gods as well, so in fact, his plan was flawless, he was doing the right thing.
Oh, guys, story of prince Arthas is probably my favorite one. Childhood memories about prince's journey and his fall. Yes, he's undead. His helmet is another creature named Nerzul, formely an orcish shaman that made deals with demons. Together they are known as Lich King. His sword is called Frostmourne, made by Nerzul specifically to corrupt Arthas. And that's a long story. When he was corrupted, he betrayed his people and his father, killing him. These words by his father were probably said when he was young and now are ironic, considering what he've become. The music is Arthas's theme you can say. It was in Warcraft 3 too.
The helmet isnt Ner'Zhul, its the Helm of Domination that holds Ner'zhuls spirit and gives him and the wearer the power of the Lich King. Close, just wanted to clarify :)

Arthas was once one of the good guys...he was a Holy Paladin of the Light (in the voice over his father even said he was a "weapon of righteousness". In the story of the old Warcraft RTS game he was on the side of good and fought against the previous Lich King. I'm not entirely sure why, but he ended up putting on the Lich King's crown (the helmet) and became the NEW Lich King.
Not only that, but his quest to kill Mal'ganis really did screw with his head. Basically, as soon as he came to Northrend's shores, the Lich King (keep in mind that Kil'Jaeden created the Lich King) his mind got corrupted beyond repair. Kil'Jaeden created the Lich King so it he would turn every defender and creature on Azeroth into brittle undead, making it 200× easier to destroy the planet
You guys like the overwatch cinematics? Just wait until you get to the modern day World of Warcraft cinematics hehehe you have no idea of the greatest CGI/Animation to come from Blizz. That includes Starcraft and Diablo!
Sooo, the story of The Lich King is sooooo GREAT. Long story, short: Nerzul was an Orc Shaman that made deals with demons. Because of one of those deals he was trapped inside the helmet. Nerzul created the sword, called Frostmourne and used it to lure Arthas. Arthas was a Paladin in training and the only son of the king. Demons did nasty stuff to his home. Arthas chased them and did some "questionable" stuff with the most known being 'The Culling of Stratholme". After that he chased the demons some more and found Frostmourne. The sword corrupted him. He went back to his home and Arthas killed his father. He then went to find The Frozen Throne(the place where he sits at the start of this cinematic) in order to get the helmet that Nerzul was trapped. When he put the helmet on, Nerzul finished his corruption and from that point onwards there was neither Arthas nor Nerzul, just The Lich King.
It's hard to explain why I get so much enjoyment out of watching videos like this. It's like when you invite a friend over and show them a game you're into and they end up really loving it. About Arthas: Arthas is heavily inspired by Darth Vader and Sauron. He is a tragic hero who was tricked into becoming a wicked yet impressive villain. He is undead, he was the prince of Lordaeron which he destroyed in Warcraft 3. In that game he took up a cursed runeblade called Frostmourne which took his soul. He fused with the first Lich King which was the spirit of an old orc shaman named Ner'zhul. That spirit was transformed into the helm between Warcraft 2 and 3's time. The sword, the helm and Arthas as a vessel combined with parts of both personalities formed the Lich King as he is in WoW: Wrath of the Lich King. He was the final boss of Icecrown Citadel which was a 10 or 25 player level 80 (max at the time) raid in patch 3.3 at the end of the expansion. That fight was the conclusion to a 7 year long cliffhanger from the ending of Warcraft 3's expansion The Frozen Throne or TFT. Of course now 10 years and 5 expansions later you can go back at level 120 and solo the damned place :(. The Forsaken: Not to be confused with the undead Scourge the Forsaken are an undead faction that you can play as and are part of the Horde. In WC3: TFT The Lich King was attacked and damaged causing him to lose control of a massive chunk of the Scourge. When these undead got their will and minds back they swore vengeance on the Lich King and the Scourge. About liches: Liches are in lots of other fantasy and stem from the granddaddy of all fantasy Dungeons and Dragons. If you know what a necromancer is you sort of know what a lich is. In most fantasy settings they''re an ascended form of a necromancer reborn through a death related ritual. Details sometimes vary by franchise. Also did you guys skip BC? (Burning Crusade) it's not listed anywhere. You should definitely do the WC3 cinematics since it's close to the same time WoW was made (2002/2004 with TFT being 2003). Don't remember if anyone said but these aren't the trailers you're watching these are the actual intro cinematics. The reason I make the distinction is because the trailers show more information and game systems and are worth reacting to as well as they put a theme to the expansion. The patch trailers (like 3.1, 3.2 and 3.3 for Wrath) are worth watching as well. There are some things that are going to confuse you without them.

“Big nose guy with bear” is a Dwarf Hunter. “Sexy Elf Panther lady” is a Night Elf Druid. Almost all the races can be Mages (spec Fire if you wanna rain fire and turn enemies into sheep), but if you wanna group up and play together, the other two are Alliance races. I’m partial to worgen myself, because why wouldn’t I want to be an awesome wolf person? 🐺
I want to see you three playing the game, but it may be wiser to wait for the next expansion to come out in a month or two. They're re-vamping the new-player experience, and it's VASTLY improved. Do you want to play a 15-year-old game? Play now, but judge it accordingly. But you'll get a much better feel for modern WoW if you get to start on the new new-player experience.

Hello. I don't know if somebody explained it already but : The bear guy with big nose it was a Dwarf hunter, as a hunter you can capture beasts from all around Azeroth to fight on youre side. (Even some bosses that are categorised az beasts) The sheep guy is a human mage. Spoiler alert!!! Polymorph( the ability to transform somebody into a sheep) works only on humanoids, so you won't be able to polymorph Syndragosa. The panther girl is a Night Elf Druid. Druids are shapeshifters and they have a form that fulfils every role on wow ( tank, healer, melee dps and ranged dps.) They can transform into a bear, panther, moonkin( I can't describe what it is) and even a tree of life. They also have 3 travel forms which increases their movement speed on land, water and air.( stag for ground movement, raven for flying and a seal for increased swim speed) 😀
Love the tragic poetry showcased here. Almost every line is beautiful, but pained. "The very forests of Lordaeron whispered the name... Arthas." Those forests are plagued now because of him. "My child, I watched with pride as you grew into a weapon... of righteousness." As he draws one of the most evil weapons to ever exist, the weapon that turned his son into a weapon of death and evil. Then finally, "Remember, our line has always ruled with wisdom and strength, and I know you will show restraint when exercising your great power." Arthas has awakened now, and his goals are anything but restrained: the total subjugation and extermination of the living. Simply excellent.
Just a quick recap of what you've seen so far is that in the first cinematic you were introduced to the world Azeroth. In this world there are many Waring factions but the 2 that players choose from are the biggest in the form of the Alliance & the Hoard. The Alliance consists of Dwarves (The guy with the Bear), Gnomes, Humans (One variant being the Kul Tiran navy), 2 variants of Elves (Night & Void), Draenei (Lightforged versions too), Worgen (Werewolves), & Pandarens (Basically Po from Kung Fu Panda). While the Hoard consists of 2 versions of Orcs, Taurens (Minotaurs), Trolls (Including Zandalari), Undead, Blood & Nightborne Elves, Goblins, & Pandarens (Only Neutral race) as well. Both Factions are always in a cycle of a Stop/Start, Love/Hate relationship. Only banning together when a larger threat appears. *Note: You skipped a cinematic I believe. This Cinematic shows one of those threats. The Wrath of the Lich King expansion follows Arthas, A once noble warrior & Prince who saw an Undead Curse ravage his people. Long story, Short (if you want more in-depth explanations check the other wonderful posts around me.) Arthas went to stop plague & the Demon behind it. Finds the Frostmourn sword, it drives him mad, he slaughtered a whole city of people to stop disease, skip ahead he dawns the helmet of the Lich King & proceeded to try & wipe all life out. A Lich itself is an undead but one that maintains a lot of their mentality & power. Necromancer more than not will become powerful Lichs upon death that can raise & control undead of their own.

what i realy like about this trailer is something ubisoft did in their most recent assassinscreed trailer aswell: the words the narator speaks are either exactly oposed to what we see or as in this case on screen we see a corrupted/perverted version of what the narrator is saying for example the narrator says things like "i am certain you will show restraint when exercising your power" while those words are spoken we literaly see him resurecting a dragon, then the narrator is like "the greatest feat is to inspire the heart of your people" and in the same shot we see him impowering his undead army etc, those are just some examples but if you watch it again you will notice in almost all shots where the narrator applies some form of moral value to his son he goes against it with his actions
This cinematic is irony at its best... The King Terenas Menethil talking to his son, Arthas, a young paladin, when instead he became the Linch King doing the exact opposite thing his father is narrating in the video. A true masterpiece and a milestone for gaming.

This is Arthas aka The Lich King. The narration was made by his father Terenas Menethil. Arthas was a paladin from Lordaeron who was corrupted by the sword Frostmourne after seeking power. The sword turned him into the Lich King, then he killed his father after returning home. The Lich King is the jailer of the Damned. He controls the Scourge(undeads) thus there always has to be a Lich King otherwise the undeads will have no control and will start to attack and destroy everything
In my opinion, this was the best opening cenimatic of all of the World of Warcraft. I think you should also see "Veteran of the Wrathgate" cut scene, with also comes of Lich King.
my boyfriend was a little bit sneaky when he introduced this game to me. as we randomly talk about games, he just told me that there is this game that would require 3 damage dealers, one healer and a tank, basically telling me that the way to defeat a boss is to team up; but he never really delved into it. then after two weeks he told me about Arthas' back story, that he was the crown prince of a kingdom called Lordaeron and that is a paladin (one of the game's class) and how he fought for the good of his kingdom. after sometime again he told me how he encountered a terrible disease and vowed to take revenge to whoever caused it which led him to go astray and end up being the Lich King and eventually killed his father. then finally, he showed me this....man i cried as i listen to the father speaking at the background. 😢 it was really heartbreaking for me to see that Arthas turned out to be the exact opposite of what his father is saying.

arthus was pretty much the main character for warcraft the good noble prince who wanted to save his ppl from a strange disease that plagued his country. Arthus foundout it was a demon who was responsible and will later risk everything to kill and stop him, he turns to a cursed sword called frostmourne for power which unfortunatley because of it, he fell to the dark side and became the lich king. if you watch star wars you can think of it as anakin becoming darth vadar
You missed The Burning Crusade which came before Wrath of Lich King. There is also the End of the Lich King Cinematic called "Fall of the Lich King Ending" that plays after the players defeats him, Later expansions have many more cinematics then just the trailers like "Harbringers" for Warlords of Draenor and "Warbringers" for Battle for Azeroth aswell as videos that plays after you defeated the last boss of a raid instance or after certain quests, However to learn everything about the characters you would need Warcraft3 lore aswell (most are told in ingame cinematics)
Sindragosa is the former consort of Malygos Lord of the Blue dragon flight. Arthas raises her as a frost wyrm. She is referred to as the Frost Queen. Neltharion lord of the black dragon flight fell to corruption and became Deathwing, he was responsible for her death. Also a lich is usually a powerful spell caster who died and had their soul either reinhabit his/her corpse or the corpse of another. And similar to Vuldemort with his horcruxes, a lich's undead life is bound to a philactory. How it works is when the mage dies their soul goes to the object, could be anything, that their soul is bound to before going to a nearby corpse. If the philactory is destroyed then the lich is dead for good. Otherwise it can "live" forever and body hop.
You know what was really awesome? Back when WotLK launched, while you installed the expansion the game launcher gave you the entire story of the human and undead campaigns from Warcraft 3 and its expansion, The Frozen Throne. It helped players who didn't play Warcraft 3 get caught up to speed on Arthas's story before we went to his domain to challenge him, once and for all.
Arthas was in fact "dead" as in undeath. His heart had long stopped pumping. It is revealed in the expansion that he has in fact cut out his own heart and remains untouched by that, it is not until a paladin destroys the heart that he is greatly weakened/damaged by it.
Well to get the context of this trailer you’re gonna need to know the plot of Warcraft III. “Arthas” is the name of the Lich King and he wasn’t always like this. He was once a Paladin of Loredearon but after taking up the cursed sword“Frostmourne” he became a Death Knight for the Burning Legion and then after placing the crown of “Nerzul” on his head he became the Lich King. This is just a brief summary, but there’s a lot of lore to look at when it comes to the “Warcraft Universe”. Kinda surprised you didn’t watch the Burning Crusade trailer before this. I ‘d recommend you watch the Mists of Pandaria trailer next.
One basic thing about World of Warcraft: before WoW, there were the the Warcraft RTS (real-time strategy) games in which you commanded armies in this world. So most of the story in the early WoW expansions is simply a continuation of the story in the last one of those, Warcraft 3. Particularly both the main villain of Burning Crusade, Illidan, and of Wrath of the Lich King, Arthas, were introduced in that game.

There's no way that Warcraft or Blizzard have copied this specific cinematic from Game of Thrones cause many people who watch this for the first time say that it's copied from GOT but the fact is that this cinematic video was released 10 years ago when GOT was just somewhere around their first season while the night king in GOT is shown in the last 2-3 seasons of it.

A Lich is a type of undead, but a REALLY powerful one, usually, it's a mage that finds a way in life to keep on living, cuz no matter how powerful you are, you can't beat time, sometimes it requires a ritual in which success isn't even guaranted Their soul is also linked to a special item, a phylactery which must be destroyed in order for the lich to truly die In fact, in WoW, there's a Lich called Kel'Thuzad, who was defeated in Classic, but his phylactery was not destroyed so he returned in Wrath of the Lich king in which a cultist, posing as an argent crusader (basically a bunch of paladins) fooled us into giving him the phylactery, so Kel'Thuzad is still alive If a lich "dies" but the phylactery is intact, their soul returns to the phylactery and they get a new body, a lich also needs to consume souls in order to maintain their sanity, for if they don't, they eventually become demiliches, a demilich is pretty much just the skull of the lich, retaining it's magic abilities but having going mad, the demilich can recover from this condition tho That said, depending on the author, liches might follow different rules, for example, Voldemort is a lich and the deadly hallows are his phylacteries, he doesn't need to feed on souls but he also cant get a body whitout external help Aleo, no lich in WoW has shown signs of becoming a demilich, there are floating skulls, but floating skulls are usually just another type of undead, so they are probably not demiliches
Watch the original Warcraft 3 trailers and cutscenes. Before WoW, Warcraft was the greatest RTS ever created. Arthas was the prince of Lorderon. However, the blade he located and began to wield to save humanity from the Scourge corrupted him. The corruption grew so deep, he returned to Lorderon and murdered his father. Lorderon fell and he became a Death Knight who would take up the corrupted crown of the Lich King. It's a pretty amazing story.

This is my favorite of all the Warcraft cinematic, second would be Battle for Azeroth. You should check out all the Star Wars: The Old Republic cinematic. They are done just as well as the Blizzard ones.

The main thing that separates a lich from other undead is that they store their souls in a phylactery. The fact that they still have a soul, albeit not in their body, means a lich is typically very sentient, powerful, and hard to kill. Arthas, the Lich King, doesn't really have a phylactery. He's more the king of liches than a lich who is a king.
Arthas’s soul was taken by the very sword 🗡 he’s wielding… so in fact… he’s an undead himself… but no ordinary undead… he’s the king of the undead… the Lich king… and also a death… and all the undeads below… he turned them into death knights as well

World of warcraft is the best thing ever happened to ppl like me, it has a very rich story(like hobit and lord of the rings) and it has the best cinematics in the world. Hope u keep watching them, its way better than some games for ur channel and millions of ppl are still WoW fans
This isn't even just a good cinematic - this is good filmmaking. This is good storytelling. Having the ironic juxtaposition of a father's message to a son expressing hope for how just and wise he can and will be, forming lessons the man will take as essentially the biggest, baddest character in the lore at the time. "restraint when exercising great power" -> extravagantly resurrecting a giant dragon. "stirring the hearts of your people" -> a rallying cry to an army of the dead meant to destroy the world (btw, HBO's Game of Thrones basically stole every part of how they visually depicted the White Walkers army and how it fights from this game; Martin's books have never gotten that far. Blizzard even sent a mildly teasing tweet about it after GOT season 7).
Arthas, the price that was raised to be honorable, became a beacon for the people. Then he found the cursed blade, went mad, killed his father, mentor and subjects and raised them as undead...they don't make stories like this anymore
