An update for those viewing this video later: Penguin classics is coming out with an edition of The Anatomy of Melancholy in May of this year (2019). Can be pre-ordered.
2 years later it still hasn't been published. Now it's supposed to be a year and a half away, bit I'm still skeptical because they pushed it back so many times. I even sent them an email asking about it but they never responded.
Thank you! I’ve got a giant old hardcover from my dad…it is fascinating and beautiful but definitely intimidating. I came across a hilarious quote from it in Middlemarch…so with your encouragement I think I will eventually give it a go!
Gotta love how Steve makes City of God sound like straightup philosophy and how he then goes on to say that he loves this kind of book, although he is always very vocal about hating philosophy.
great review this book is addicting Another nonfiction author who makes addicts is Alan Moorehead, beginning with The White Nile, the best account of the search for the source of the Nile River. The way he writes he can make tomatoes or hammers utterly fascinating. What a thrilling review by the way..
I always thought I read more Fiction but when putting a list together of my fav all time books, a lot of them are non-fiction. "The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks" by Rebecca Skloot, "Wild" by Cheryl Strayed and "To See and See Again" by Tara Bahrampour are some of my favs. Hey, did you ever find that book "The Grid" by Gretchen Bakke I was looking for? Looking forward to your end of year book recommendations on your Steve Reads blog! Have a great day Steve!
Is there a new book about Guadalcanal?? Sorry, if you mentioned the title I missed it. My husband and I are about to re-watch The Pacfic, which is all about that, and he loves books about war... thinking of a Christmas gift for him. Even if there's no new one, do you have a recommendation? Thanks, and great discussion as always.
