Maige na kagaya ni Nonoy Z ang isa sa maging hurado sa mga singing contest sa Pilipinas~coz he can see the real talent, not the physical or whatever..but the quality of the aspiring one in a whole package..

Ms. Aster, thank you for interviewing Nonoy. He used to be my crush during my high school days. He’s still one of my favorite singers, and truly, he popularized many beautiful songs during his time.

After I heard his testimony, (only now that I know what had happened to him), I have all the more reverence for Nonoy Zuñiga because instead of pitying himself and giving up, he went on to inspire a lot of aspiring musicians and became the legendary performer that he had eventually become. Am from Calbayog City too and I know Nonoy did not only get his Singing skill from his father but also from his mother from the Obong family who are also singer artists.

Lagi ko nasasalubong si Doc Nonoy sa may bandang likuran ng UST College of Commerce. Malapit sa Medicine Building yung building namin e doon siya lagi nagpa-park. Sa araw nung accident na nasabugan siya, nagkasalubong pa kami sa daan malapit sa YMCA. Pagdating ko sa bahay, nakita ko na parang nahimasmasan nanay ko. Yun pala mga halos isang oras mula nang umalis ako ng YMCA ay nabalita na nagkaroon ng pagsabog ng bomba. Alam ng nanay na dadaan ako doon sa lugar din na pinagsabugan at narinig ko sa radio na si Doc Nonoy ay naging biktima. I prayed na walang masamang nangyari sa kanya. Mabait na tao at palabati si Doc Nonoy. Last kaming nagkita sa may Cardinal Santos. Kumakain siya sa cafeteria ng Cardinal ng late 80s. Natanaw niya ako at binati ako. Sabi niya, "Huy! Schoolmate! Nandito ka pala!". Nagulat ako na akala ko iba yung tinawag niya. Yun pala ako yung tinatawag niya. Nagulat din yung kasama ko na sabi sa akin na kilala pala ako ni Doc Nonoy. Sabi ko hindi niya ako kilala pero madalas kami magkasalubong sa UST at nagbabatian kami kahit never niya nalaman ang pangalan ko.

I remember Mr. Nonoy Zuniga back in the early 80s when he was still a Medical student while I was ion the College of Commerce. There would be concerts in the Auditorium and once I served as an usherette in one of the concerts of Martin Nievera where he was one of the guests.
