Sae-byeok is the only one that even makes me cry on every rewatch. Having watched Squid Game 3 times now. In episode 6 as well. After the first time I was like whatever 1/456 and 199/218, but Jesus... I cannot keep it dry on Sae-byeok's scenes in 6 and 8. I guess in 6 it's down to her actual performance and in 8 it's more to do with the thought of her background and what she loses dying amplified by Gi-hun's reaction.

Same here. I didn't rewatch the whole series, but rewatched this scene yesterday. Every time when I hear her last words (that she wants to go home) my eyes just become wet. When they put her body in the coffin and "fly me to the moon" starts playing I'm already crying hard. For some reason this scene is just too sad.

Not really the first 2 games can theoretically be survived by anyone the 3rd only half die so we are left with 228 game 4 also is cut in half thus 114 and game 5 can be survived by everyone(hard but theoretically possible) squid game has 2 teams so again its half so at best there can be 57 winners
@Jack_80
@Jack_80 2 года назад
@@poutsamouni5483 nah, they would find some way to get it down to 2, probably give everyone a knife and tell them only 2 can continue to the final game. if all 3 of them just did nothing and the girl wasn't hurt, they would either tell them that one of them has to lose or just keep them locked in there until they figured it out, it was pretty obvious.

@@poutsamouni5483 there would never be 114, it's statistically impossible that every single person would make it through that first game. the only reason almost half of them made it because the old man who wasn't caught off guard by the people being shot around him showed them what to do. you say technically it's possible for the maximum possible number of people to reach the end but it would probably be more likely to hit the power ball.

I can agree that betraying Ali or killing the glassmaker is something many would do if the other option would be dying, even though these are still negative things. But stabbing a helpless girl who did not threaten his life in any way? That's just murder. He became so greedy that he felt fine with killing a girl who was important to his childhood friend. Moreover, he was ready to kill Gi-Hun as well. Just for money, not because his life was in danger. I'm pretty sure many of us wouldn't do that.
@Rakerong
@Rakerong 3 года назад
@@hopy51 Gotta disagree here. Saebyeok wasn't helpless. She was plotting with Gi-Hun to get rid of him. At that moment this meant literally to eliminate him. They weren't going to do the righteous things and end it all and leave with nothing, they were still after the money. And how important to Gi-Hun was she, really? I've not seen any significant moments between the two over these few days they were in the game. It wasn't until now when she finally opened up to him about her purposes in the games. And why is it everyone thinks that any action taken has to be due to lives being in danger? Their lives are all in danger the minute they set foot back in there. This is why you cannot trust people completely, and you cannot falter and give in to emotion that will distract you. Sangwoo and Saebyeok both got through as far as they did because they had the right mentality and drive to keep their eye on the prize. But she made the mistake of letting her guard down. I think terms like 'innocent' and 'murder' need to stop being used. No one is innocent, they're just players. Murder isn't murder here, it's elimination. They're not in society. They're playing children games. The use of language is on purpose for this reason. The winner of the game isn't the one who does the most noble deeds, it's the one who wins the game at the end.
@hopy51
@hopy51 3 года назад
@@Rakerong They didn't plan to get rid of him. Sae-Byeok stopped Gi-Hun from killing him. And in the last game, Gi-Hun himself wanted to stop the game. He really needed the money, but he decided it was just not worth it. All of his friends died, and that put him into such depression that he didn't even use the money for a whole year.

They all were vying for that money to help their loved ones and improve their lives. I guess you guys wouldn't know, but the identity of the front man was foreshadowed in episode 6 when Ji Yeon was talking about the movie which starred Lee Byung Hyun. If you two want to watch a good movie that stars Lee Byung Hyun who plays the front man, you should check out "I Saw The Devil". As for your question about why they blew up the glass, it was probably because it was on a timer. When the timer ran out, everyone left on the bridge would have fallen to their deaths.

15:37 - I go with the Occam's Razor explanation. Sang-Woo didn't know she was injured, only 456 knew. Sang-Woo hd been awakened by 456's calling for a doctor, but Sang-Woo didn't know exactly what that was about, but saw that Sae-Byeok was vulnerable and could be killed. And he probably figured, if the final game allows for a two against one situation, he'd be on the receiving end of that, so by killing her, it makes it one on one.

I agree with Georgia’s comment that Ali’s death was a turning point for Sang-Woo. Not trying to justify his misdeeds but I think I get it. The mentality being that being soft to anyone else afterwards would cheapen the lives you sacrificed. It’s not uncommon in Asia that parents sacrifice their quality of life (sometimes to extreme conditions) to invest on their children, in the hope that their success eventually result in better returns. In Asia the competition is always bigger than individuals. 💔

Sang Woo understood that they were expected to kill each other before the final game when the knife was left on the table. He knew they weren't going to get medical help if one of them got injured. I think when Gi Hun banged on the door and woke him up and started asking for a doctor, he knew she was in no condition to fight back. After examining her wound, and knowing she'll suffer a slow and very painful death, he DID end her misery (since he knew she wasn't going to get the help she needed). Not only for altruistic motives but also eliminate the mathematical possibility of them voting 2 to 1 to end the game (however unlikely, making all of effort to save his mom in vain). Big brain power play in roughly 20 seconds. Still makes him look scummy, but what else would you expect from someone that graduated from SNU Business xD
@TheCornerverse

He isn’t the pride of Ssangmun-Dong for nothing😂 very smart and calculated thinking from him, and if he needs the money for his mother and her livelihood who can really blame him🥺
@unbeheld
@unbeheld 3 года назад
@@TheCornerverse I'm not absolving Sang Woo from all the blame, at heart he is a selfish person which is how he was able to lose his mother's assets (even if he did own them). In typical KR culture fashion, his pride couldn't bear the thought of others viewing him as a failure (despite everyone praising how smart he is), this is why he was incredibly annoyed on the running joke of Gi Hun always introducing him as "this fellow is a graduate of SNU business", as it was a constant reminder of his abject failure. Due to this he opted for the popular KR choice of committing suicide and leaving his mother to dry (like I said very selfish). This is why he was in the bathtub in his full suit, getting himself drunk while the gas burner at the side was going to kill him via carbon poisoning. However, then fate knocked on his door for a chance to go back, this is where his true redemption arc began. He realized the games would get even more vicious and people would need to do all sorts of unethical things in order to win the game. Despite all that, he chose to play to win for the sake of his mother since he was personally responsible for her financial ruin. He was hoping Gi Hun did not come back to the game, as he was one of the few connection (as well as Ali), because he realized he'd need to be ruthless and Gi Hun would be the blubbering idiot who really didn't "understand" the game at all. Which is why he screwed him initially at the Honeycomb challenge. He didn't want to betray Gi Hun on a more direct level, but at the same time if he killed himself then it would in a twisted logic appease his conscience while freeing him up to play a cutthroat game. Still, once Gi Hun survived on his own, he saved him by pointing out people would kill each other. Saved him again in tug of war by doing the unconventional gambit. He chose Ali because he trusted him, not because he saw him as a threat. The fact the game betrayed him into killing Ali was on the game. So he had no problem betraying Ali, since in his mind they all chose to go back to the games knowing what it was all about. His mother was all that mattered to him. Even in the bridge game, Sang Woo could have waited 3 more seconds before shoving the glass maker if he was truly truly evil. Which would have insured that Sae Byok might time out and Gi Hun would definitely time out. But instead he saw the clock, made a calculated risk assessment to get all 3 of them past the finish line. He actually saved both Sae Byok and Gi Hun by dirtying his hands. Bad luck that Sae Byok got betrayed by that dumb glass shard, bad luck she was going to slowly bleed to her death. Even after all the emotional trauma of doing the unthinkable and all the sacrifices along the way. Gi Hun still didn't get the whole point of the game and his bright idea was to quit and let both of their mothers down by going back to the real world penniless. When he realized his injury was too severe to win, he played his last card. His mother is all that mattered, and he knew Gi Hun hated him for doing the things he needed to do, and when he died his mother would most likely still be destitute. So he appeals to Gi Hun, apologizes, kills himself like he always meant to do while laying the fattest guilt trip on Gi hun to insure he takes care of his mom after he goes to his grave. He was an incredibly written character that was beautifully acted by Park Hae Soo. Yet despite all of these things, your average viewer is grabbing the pitchfork "that Sang Woo needs to die oh my god!!!" xD Great reaction you two btw ~
