I have a Leslie 770 (with a little tube preamp) and a Preamp 2. It doesn't matter whether I connect my Hammond TX-500, my Yamaha EX5, Nord Wave 2 or my Nord C1: Suddenly every great sounding keyboard sounds ten times massive and sweet at the same time. The Leslie is the trick. Nice Video! Greetings from Germany🇩🇪🤝
I own an electro 5, if you can find the right tube preamp and run the nord into it then to your powered monitors you might come close to the Hammond/Leslie tone. The problem is finding the right tube preamp.
I completely agree. I've had Hammonds & keyboard emulators and 122 Leslie for years. For a fair comparison, need to run the instruments through the same speaker system.
In my opinion, an authentic Hammond B3 sound can be achieved with a synthesizer provided that the synthesizer gives the musician unlimited, Hammond, like control over the sound. Additionally, to achieve an authentic B3 sound the synthesizer signal must be run through a Leslie. The Leslie is half of a B3. It breathe life into the sound, and gives depth and power. You don’t just hear a Hammond you feel it. Trying to re-create the Hammond sound without a Leslie. It’s like trying to run a race on one leg.
I agree that Hammond sound is more closely immolated, but no one, saving IK Multimedia IMO, has matched the shape of the sine waves in a Hammond. They are usually too sharp or round in clones. Hammond hit a sweet spot. But, again, it's less noticeable with a Leslie or a great sim. Again, IK multimedia is the only authentic clone that compels me to forgo ever having to mic any of my 8 Leslies or 14 Hammonds.
