We had these 40-50 years ago. Black vulcanized rubber with a single zipper in the center and a thin wool liner. Put em right on over your shoes. We called em "galoshes." 5 bucks. Indestructible.
@@heatherscott3950 These are technical mountaineering boots, not hiking boots. They are a lot like ski boots, so not great at all to walk in on flat ground.
Why is highly specialized stuff always so freaking cool.. why can't I just like stuff that I need in my day-to-day life why do I always gotta love things that I will never need😂
You can turn your waterproof boots into something this functional by buying a $25 gator at REI. Not that I don’t think these are cool. But, I need functional gear like this, unfortunately, the cost I couldn’t afford. Luckily, a gator and decent waterproof boots (plus possibly duct tape) cost 1/4 to 1/6 the price for exactly the same function.
It's plastic garbage that will reek of fungus in 3 wears. Nothing beats natural wool or sheep insulated shoes naturally antibacterial. $100 tops. This is a joke.
They kind of remind me of the old Rosemont ski boots. If anyone is old enough, there was an American made ski boot that was overly complicated and custom fit. My uncle worked for the company and sent my dad a pair. He was so happy and proud to tinker with them because they were an engineering marvel, but they weren't all that successful.
I mean… if they’re comfortable enough compared to most actual work shoes I’ve found. Those would absolutely be worth looking into. Cause they get the perfect pressure every time cause I can manually adjust them by fine amounts. Compared to most military boots where the tie is always TOO tight. Or TOO loose and always slipping out of the knot when tied lol

I’m assuming you’ve never heard of boa straps on boots. You pull the tensioner out and it releases the tension to a very loose state so they’re easily removable.
I would love just the out side shell part of that boot! I'm not a mountain climber but i do live in the foothills of the Wallowa Mountains N E Oregon. Yes, keep my slippers on for running quick errands, small out door chores and minor winter maintenance. Such as running the trash out or shoveling the walkway every 1/2 hour. These are slick. I could keep my slippers on the entire time 😂🎉. Cheer Edit: i just looked them up 😮 $800.00 😅
I have both Klim motto and sledding boots with the Boa dial lace system. Absolutely love them. After a day of riding they aren't loose or wet. I can put them on in about 4 seconds a boot, and take of in two. A super consistent tighten through from toe through tongue to ankle. I don't have shares in Boa, just enjoy they're products. 30,000 km on my ADV boots, still stay dry and work perfectly. Cheers from Canadian Rockies ehhh :-)
@@011dux Nope. Started sledding in 93. Joined search and rescue in around 95. In those days we had to build our own mountain sleds. You learned alot about equipment and gear. So yeah, when I say I like something, I like it. I've had ATV's, quads, mx, mountain sleds, sports cars, pick ups. Plenty to research. I will never buy a Dodge product again, from past poor service. Does that suffice your judgement? Like I cared anyway, lol.
@billmcmeekin7909 don't feed the trolls. Real fellas understand your comments perfectly. Stay safe out there. And thank you for keeping others safe on search and rescue.😊
$850.00 is not so bad as the $2500.00 pair I encountered in a store. No salesperson there could even begin to explain or justify that ridiculous price! Proof to me that some products are priced by the manufacturer to sucker in elitist idiots.
@@SuperPhexx Oh I'm sure. Lol, other day I had Subaru in front of me. Young kid, nothing special or flashy. Something about the bike I was looking. Lol, Googled it at the light. Think it was either $2200 or $2600! Mind you, this was just a mountain bike lol. No, custom lowrider, or old school Schwinn. They're pretty need though. Think the whole thing weighs under 3 lbs. Probably mostly alloy's. But $3k on a bike is just unbelievable. Mind you I live in Flint, MI. So it's not like I was by Yellow Stone or anything. 🤣
A friend of mine had a pair of wading boots with that mechanism. We went fishing in the winter one day… the darn things froze and he could not take them off. He had to drive home wearing them and wait until they thawed 😂😂😂
Mammut gear was issued to me on a slope stabilization project 10 years ago and I've trusted their gear ever since. When your life and health depend on what equipment you use, the cost makes sense.
Ot work boots, they are mountaineering boots, made to keep you from losing your little piggies due to frostbite. However the LA.SPORTIVA Nepal Evo GTX are by far the best mountaineering boot on the market. Mine were $675 brand new.
Uffff you have not the slightest idea.😅 They are arround 1500 USD some pair. Those here are arround 800 USD and onec you put em on you will start to cry😊 is like entering a fucking plane. When i see some thing like this, my heart starts to beat fast. And they are fucking cool! Mamut and La Sportiva boots are the Ferrari and Lambo of shoes
Quick tip. Do the ankle tightener first. It pushes your foot to the heel cup in the back of the shoes then you tighten the top so it locks your foot in place I have the same double zone for my snowboard boots
Boa system are so nice I have them on my snowboard boots been using them for 18 years never had a single problem! They work just as good as the day I bought them. But I would want some type of replacement or repair kit if I was to use them on a major mountaineering expedition. I am not knocking them at all but if they were to fail for any number of reasons in the middle of nowhere in a different country, it would be hard to fix or replace them. Everyone can carry some extra laces but would think it would be hard to find a replacement Boa set on the side of a mountain. But that is just me.
This might be my morbid humor, but if one is climbing Mount Everest, then there'll be plenty of opportunity to scavenge parts for boots off of the frozen bodies of previous expeditions along the way. Although you may be right about having a hard time finding someone with this type of system, whereas laces might be more prevalent.
I’ve had boa on my old snowboard boots break. They’re warrantied though so they sent replacements. I now just use laced snowboard boots for ease of replacement if they break
@@garylukas3476 it has been a while but I want to say $200. But the have a custom model on the insole that they heat up and put you foot in a press kinda like a binding. And they press it so your boots are completely custom for your own foot. I love them they have been nothing but awesome. I have the box they came in I want to say the a R32 but I am not 100 on it.
Until they break. They're replaceable, but i wouldn't want one breaking while on an expedition. Not a huge problem when they break on your snowboarding boots and you're close to a shop that has them.
Thanks. That's what I came here to find out. I was honestly thinking they would be 1kish but haven't looked at boots in a while. Either way I still can't justify buying them personally.
If I ever have to do something that requires boots like these, these are the boots I'll get, I have absolutely no idea what that something would be, but if I ever have to do that something then these are definitely the boots I'll get to do that something whatever that something may be..... BOOTS!!!!!!!!!!
The best pair of boots i bought are my mamuts, absolute the money worth and i dont feel sorry when i spend allmost 1000 Swiss franks on a pair of boots😊
It’s an expedition boot made for presumably climbing mountains, not for you to wear in the rain, everybody talking about how long it takes to put on like tying boots doesn’t take longer, and regular muck boots do not fit well around your feet and unless you wear multiple layers you’ll probably get blisters
Frozen hands on a mountainside with frozen laces from yesterday attempting to pull the laces through...makes these super awesome. No absorption of moisture in the laces. They don't freeze like some have said...very common for ski boots also. The mechanism has a brand name...BOA.
They also allow you to tension the bottom separate from the top...sometimes going downhill...you will get what's called "shin bang' and adjusting them this way can help.
@x_isaka that is true...but they are made from Kevlar and for most people they will only spend a few weeks in these types of boots in thier entire lives unless they are a mountain guide. These aren't hiking boots...they are for tall mountain expeditions.
@x_isaka for snowboard boots with boa laces...I have seen many broken ones...but...I think this partially due to a lack of care. I worked in Boa boots for hundreds of days and they still work fine.
Of course, it wasn't a mountain that required this kind of gear, but on the 2nd of January in the winter of about 20 years ago, I met a group of high school kids who had climbed a 2,000 metre mountain with nothing but slip-ons on and of course it was snowing like crazy.
Salomon.bindings, collegiate sports teck guy here. My twin brother and i instslled 🎿 ski bindings and the cashier would line up the skiis now twenty pair and Albert would reach into the 👢 boots and search them out for early to-doo gifts 🎁 .these special and extremely important now work order's got or were give high priorities on the set up bench😅 calibration for tyrol always had a mickey of whisky and Rum 🎉.turn around was at eye opener.😊
All over Nepal (in my case Annapurna / Manaslu circuits), you will see sherpas male and female walking back and forth the base camps in flip-flops while carrying 30/40kg load on their backs using bags made out of branches.
Was snowboarding Windham mountain and was going down a black diamond when i wiped out on a slick sheet and smashed my head ripping my helmet, goggles and ski mask off. When i woke up alone and cold with a splitting headache i realized i also broke one my ladder straps and literally couldn't keep my boot in the shoe. I was on a black diamond, theres no just walking down. I like half slid half tumbled to the bottom. A like controlled wreck. My first experience at Windham 😂
@@BrandonB-x2v They're boots/crampons for a Snowboard, mine broke when I wrecked. That's exactly what it has to do with. Nobody forced you to read the comment.
@@GatorSkinno, these boot are terrible for anything but climbing in the mountains, they are super warm, so stiff it’s like walking on 2x4s and you can cause undue wear by using them in environments they are not meant for
I ran across this video and if you ever catch my going anywhere in the wild I'm not trying to because food for predators I'm not trying to become a popsicle I don't go on boats in or near the water I work so much I barely have a chance to do work around my home....I have expensive work boots but id never pay more than $350 for any so if you gave me a pair of them boots I'll give them away or they collect dust in my closet
