NICE! I always like Norfolk's bridges and tunnels- I experienced some of those in 1989 when I went to Norfolk with my grandparents and aunt it was quite the experience. I remember the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel, going through that at night and once on a rainy afternoon- wow. Nice. I turly would love to go back someday and see the changes!
Traffic moves a lot faster now than it did when I was a child. I remember riding the ferry from Norfolk to Portsmouth, the ferry to Hampton, and the ferry over to the Eastern Shore. If I am not mistaken, there was also a ferry from somewhere in Newport News to the southside.
@0:01 The High Five in Dallas, Texas. I used to turn east from US 75 to I 635 every morning, and to back the same way. I have since moved away from there. @2:25 Sunday evening the 14th March 2021, I took the westbound tunnel to Hampton from the Willoughby Spit area where I was staying, to the Fuller's Raw Bar - excellent red chowder. I drove back on the eastbound tunnel, with much less traffic. Sometimes you have to use 4th View Street to access I-64, direct access from Ocean View Avenue and 15th View Street is not always possible, depending on the time of day. That was sort of my preparation for taking the Chesapeake Bay Bridge/Tunnel the next morning, and I made it to Philadelphia that day.
So good to see another video from you, its been a little while!! Great work as always, love the snipet of Alan Parsons at the beginning, hope you are well, kind regards from England
The Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel is I-64 & U.S.60 not I-264. The second span opened in March of 1973. I rode on it many times when my first ship was at the Yorktown Naval Weapons Station either loading ammunition for cruises to the Med and/or Carribean and offload ammunition when returning from the Med and/or Carribean.
No. The second span of the HRBT. Was being completed around 1976. I used to pick my brother up from working on it. I had just gotten my drivers license in 75. It was a little weird driving across some patrs of the span because they were not completely finished yet. Some of the curbing and guard rails were missing on the South side of the new bridge. So it was just the roadway and water below. Needless to say you rode down the center of the span.
There’s the confusion already , 64 West going to Richmond is actually North , Directions is easy , North - Richmond , South- Chesapeake , West - Suffolk , and of course East is Vabeach 🤪
