The creative brief was simple: Paston College students were to create a film inspired by Norfolk’s Deep History Coast. Never to turn down a challenge, the students set out to educate themselves on the rich history of their own communities on the beautiful Norfolk coastline. After the History students completed some initial research it was decided that the film would work in two parts. Part one would document the initial findings and research elements; they would ask the public how much they knew about the history beneath their own feet, then they would interview the professionals to get a deeper understanding of the comprehensive finds that the coastline had revealed. Part two would be a celebration of the ancient and modern communities; a poem was written and performed by drama students. Finally, the students edited the film and have been updating their progress on their website.
Take a Walk Along the Coast:
The world is changing evolving as we speak,
We built huts upon the coast,
And fed our families using boats,
What we can find here has no limitations,
We see the past as a wonder of beautiful creations,
So let us take a walk along the coast,
To see how the world keeps it spark,
From the earliest days a footmark is seen,
Which allowed our curiosity to grow,
From back when cave dwellers were seen as clean,
And we did not know where our future would go,
The footsteps of evolution mould our minds,
The way we are created is among our techniques
Of reason and knowledge left behind.
Then a mammoths tusk from days gone by
Was found out of chance and luck,
As time grew old we learnt more and more,
Until out curiosity was struck.
But you would be mistaken if you though that was all,
Because the coast is a pathway of ghosts.
Our children walk in our ancestor footsteps,
And we convince in our minds,
The world we live in,
Is much more refined.
So take a walk along the coast ,
Relive the past, history and ghosts,
And remember, by learning where we came from,
And where we began,
We become better people,
For years to come.
