I found this video and loved the way you explained things. Thanks for sharing your knowledge on this sim. Its gonna make it much more enjoyable to play. I think I am gonna wait to purchase train sim world 4 and see what happens and how much better it can get. Thanks again for sharing this video.
For someone who worked for NS for 8 years you would’ve broke that train in half in real life! Try grabbing a notch slowly release you independent and then watch your amps and wait for them to settle before you grab another
@Drew Harman I hope you didn't take my comment the wrong way. I am genuinely interested. I wanted to be a pilot or an Amtrak Engineer growing up. I became an engineer....... A mechanical engineer lol
Im qualified on this territory, we load at .18mph, yes, that slow. 110 cars. split in half. takes about 5 hours to load. and you shove back down the hill with 6 handbrakes on. its a lot easier to control that way. also 8mph over the top of the mountain and and after the head end is through the tunnel, 15mph is the speed limit going down the mountain
thats how we do it. and just shove it back down hill, then we use slow speed control and still use the independant brake to control it, and then when that cant do it anymore, then we set minimum reduction of the automatic. and shove against the air.
thats awesome i assume im too late for a response but freight trains do look easy in the outside but being a pilot in these machines is a blast! i would love to know for how long youve been doing this?
You needed to bail off your independent brake on the long downhill run to continue to have your dynamic braking effort at the highest amount. Also at the beginning on the video you mentioned your lead motor being LEAD and CUTIN…you’re correct, but you want all trailing locomotives in your consist in TRAIL CUTOUT…..lead/trail is your independent brake control….cut in/ cutout is your automatic control….if trailing units in your consist are TRAIL CUTIN they’re all going to be trying to maintain 90 psi on your brake pipe while your lead motor will be trying to maintain 80-75 depending on what kind of brake pipe reduction you are trying to make when you go to set automatic brakes.
33:44 if you need to use the automatic brake with the dynamic, hold the independent in bail-off. It will make it so the automatic only applies to the rolling stock and not the locomotives, allowing the dynamics to do their job.
The town you are crawling through at 20:49 is Windber PA, I know it fairly well considering I was born there, although I grew up down the mountain in Bedford County... Kinda neat seeing places I know on Sims
BTW, had a good laugh when I saw you coming in for your hookup way too hot. Saw that coming from a mile away, but that's how you learn (in-game anyway, you'd never want to learn that way IRL - it's a good way to get fired). In reality, people would never believe how incredibly slow you have to move these trains around the yard, especially when you have fully loaded cars....
Dude, I grew up in the northeast in a small town (no, I did not like it) on an old part of the Erie Canal. We had a freight line going through town because we had a grain silo servicing the line. Small population but big farming community and a lot of corn. I've been to Horseshoe Curve, not too far from where I used to live. You have to be a talented conductor to work the lines in the northeast. Constant gradient changes, turns, small towns and, of course, snow for four or five months of the year back in the day. Really like your custom controls. Must add a lot of enjoyment to the game. You have a great channel going here, my friend. Looking forward to seeing more of your videos. Thanks.
Former NS Conductor here and this game is insanely accurate, gotta do that break test on the ground before you take off bud lol. I’ve read the other Engineers comments and quite a few were spot on on how you were running, loved this.
Thanks for this BG, I purchased this DLC after watching your video. Did the training and then tried the Horseshoe Curve run and despite following the training 3 times I just couldn't get the loco to start rolling ! Watched your video, this one, took some notes, followed the notes and bingo! Got the train to start moving !! I've got the raildriver , it's my most used controller at the mo, love it, bit expensive here in the UK but it adds some immersion. Cheers, Daz, Leicester, UK.
When backing up LOADED coal hoppers DOWNHILL you should never, EVER go as fast as you were. You must have damage or something disabled because that should have been a snapped coupler and derailed car.
I actually had a railfan put me on to the TSW games and i actually have (and currently) worked for two railroads in the series, UPRR (formerly) and BNSF (currently) . There's a lot of excellent details in the games just some stuff i would say that won't happen in real life lol.
My grandpa worked for Norfolk Southern for 32 years as a signal maintainer. I would go hang out with him in his little metal shack by the tracks when he wasn’t riding the rails fixing crossing gates and signals. I had so much fun seeing all the trains constantly.
I've never watched someone play a sim like this, but I saw your shirt in the preview and clicked. Where might I find the shirt you're wearing? Thanks in advance!
Horseshoe curve and sand patch are my two favorite DLC, can’t wait for the new UP engines to release on the 27th, the old school paint jobs look cool!!
I don't have the new loco liveries but I've been loving the new upgraded Sherman Hill and the cab lights in the SD70ace aren't as harsh as they used to be.
I'm not sure it's mentioned in the comments BUT you can use the camera to un-couple the cars. There are NO rpms on a locomotive! It's measured in AMPS. They use electricity because it produces MAXIMUM torque at all notch settings. There is a speed limit setting that will keep your train at a constant speed while loading your coal cars. The MAXIMUM speed for loading is only 2 MPH! While in speed control it doesn't matter what notch your in.
@@Dr_Won_Hung_Loyou didn't specify what you were referring to so that's your fault, we aren't mind readers and he is still correct while you are still wrong
@gandalfthegrey8236 no, it's the ignorance of the commenter. Anyone who knows anything about trains knows you don't refer to the diesel engine about moving the train
@@Dr_Won_Hung_Lo true but I've heard some engineers say RPMs instead of AMPS but I would assume they are engineers of diesel locomotives not the kind you find on high speed railway or subways.
Don't call yourself an Train conductor until you know what the crossings are called. Railroad Crossing. Not Crosswalks, Railroad Crossing. Who calls Railroad Crossings Crosswalks? People in 1803? Weirdo
Sir blue I really love trainworld tree I'd really like to get it on my laptop can you tell me how I go about purchasing this game I'd really appreciate that please.
3:34 *cutout and trail, not cutin and trail.. 3:58 pleease, it's BrakePipe! Brake pressure?? It would be like expecting to hit a gas, while brake pressure/force goes up.. You'd be never able to accelerate!
I was doing an oil run, and i forgot to close an oil tanker lid, and the tracks were covered in ice, and i slid down a hill and hit a turn and flipped on my side and oil went everywhere 😅
You keep miss speaking lbs for tons. It's frustrating lol, I'm just now getting in to your vids because I'm new to train sim. I'm trying to get the correct download, so I can get the bigboy 4014 steam loco add on. Any tips would help me greatly. Having problems with the steam app login issues lately. Really annoying bc I can't even get to downloading the dam game
Just bought horseshoe last night currently playing rn one thing I really don’t like is all the industries yet gp38 has one single switching op. Like what the heck you already have the 44 with all it’s thru routes I want a road switcher but this game is bad about one industry only per op. Sand patch and clinchfield still my top favorites I’ll be getting cane creek and the Canadian national one next week horseshoe is third cajon and Cheyanne tied for 4th
@@BluGames sand patch is gorgeous and I love the ops but damn does it feel extra long for some reason compared to the others. Clinchfield is the only one with true road switchers I really just wish they’d add steam, imagine a consolidation or mallet running down the Fremont branch
@@BluGames any idea why horseshoe only has 40 car max trains? Or is it just me or since playing the trains have continued to shorten…first few routes I had ran they were 4000-6000 Ft 50-75 car trains, now it’s 40-55 3500ft max
Which mission is this? I have this add on but can’t figure out what scenario this is. The only option I have is a scenario called “Does Wet Coal Burn?” But it’s rain not snow?
@@BluGames ooooo lol ok that makes sense, hate to ask this but do you by any chance remember what they were 😬 lol if not it’s cool, just really wanted to try this but thanks for getting back to me and love your content man!
I don't think you go that fast when in a siding with 33 cars, but when you start off it should be a notch 1 then when your Fred says you are moving then move up the throttle.
As a conductor for NS the details on this game is incredible from everything in the cab. The panels on the walls the control set up even the PTC screen. Hats off to the developers!
I realize this is a year old but do you recall what scenario this is? All i see in the scenarios for coal loading are only 17 minutes long - but this seems like a long continuous scenario after the coal loading
Idk how tf to get passed the training center so I can actually do stuff like this it’s frustrating. I’m a loco operator I just wanna run routes like this. In locos like this.
hi, I'm still at the tutorial part...it's been a long time and I'm getting there, thank you, I like your videos, I subscribed. I wish you good luck! (I translated it with Google Translate, my English skills are zero) :)
You said in the video that you were unable to use the slow speed controls? I was able to setup those controls on a similar scenario on the Horseshoe Curve DLC. Granted, I still had to occasionally increase and decrease the throttle due to it not being strong enough to maintain the speed on the grade. Maybe I did something wrong and it wasn't actually working when I thought it was?
I definitely experienced that as well. The CSX tutorial on how to use the system implied that it was a "Set and forget" kind of system in which you can use any throttle position and it will just maintain the set speed, but with the HSC DLC you have to use an appropriate setting for the load and gradually increase it as the load gets heavier.
I have this add-on "horseshoe curve" for TFW3, but i cant find the exact run your doing where you load the train first then take the train fully loaded to its destination, why?
