Endlessly frustrating watching the comedians at the end of Nothing Special wondering if Norm ever did this material in front of the audience and or whether or not it would kill. The second Norm did his first joke I knew that this was this set. (Roughly, of course, Norm Is too good at this to ever do the same set twice.)
same - knew it was gonna be this set, watched all like 5 versions of this they released in audio form. i think Colombus is the best performance (but they all rocked)
I felt the exact same way. It boggles my mind that Norm toured the country for years doing some of the best stand-up ever performed, and there's so little video or high quality recordings. It seems to me like every sound guy should have just had a digital recorder going when he was performing. Bill Hicks did this 30 years ago. Such a shame that so much material was lost. But, ultimately, I know that Norm was performing for the people in front of him, and for himself, and that was it. He always sounds like he is having so much fun. I will always wonder if the isolation of covid is what finally tipped the scales in the cancers favor. It seems like he really loved performing.
Operator actually has a quite negative connotation, implying he’s manipulative toward his own selfish ends. I know what you mean though. He knew how to manipulate a crowd. Genius
There have been MANY famous people pass away in the past decade... but none have hit me as hard as Norm Macdonald. His comedy was so far above others comedically and intellectually... few people were able to fully appreciate him. RIP Norm.
@@greatlakeblake you obviously need a hobby of some kind if this is how you waste your precious time - posting innane comments to people you don't even know. Are you lonely or something? Buy a dog.
When Norm died, I woke up with a bunch of texts on my phone from friends asking if I was ok. And my friends don't even really like me that much. They just knew that Norm dying would wreck me. And they weren't wrong.
Happy New Year Mary. Hope this will be your best year yet !!! I definitely would have wanted to have a beer with Norm.. You can come to my house next Christmas eve and we'll figure out how to put the star on top of the tree and keep it straight - up + down. Maybe its the egg nog I choose ? Peace ✌
an hour in he talks about how in 2020 he "is going to film a special". damn i wish covid didn't hit for no other reason then being able to see that piece of art :/
Norm was one of a kind. He shed light on so much absurdity in the human condition. I miss him so much. I agree with you, bubbyberry, Norm WAS the greatest!
Thank you so much for posting this! There really is nobody else I can listen to over and over again, I am so glad I live in a time where I can access this content.
" I love you Norm!" Must be 5 or 6 of these recordings that I've heard someone shout that and he responded. Such a great thing. Unique, or at least rare, in my decades of sifting through comedy.
Thank you so much for posting these 🤘gutted that I was never able to see him live but I so enjoy hearing you guys literally choking with laughter just as I wish I could have done with the crowd someday 🖤
The upload I watched of this earlier wasn't even close to the complete set but i didn't know that until now. I was just in the mood to listen to an old set. This is the best thing that has happened to me in months which says a lot about my life and how much I love Norm lol
I fall asleep to this set almost every night. This is one of my favorite sets from any comedian ever. Also, buy Norm's book. It's increadible, and shines some light on some of these jokes. RIP, legend.
@@user-dn9nw5oe9b I love his book, but I really like all sorts of weird, dark fiction. I find the book is as strange as it is funny, however I have laughed out loud at it several times. The book shifting back and forth between serious, silly, heartfelt, ridiculous, funny, dark, horrific stuff is very Norm to me. I definitely hear the whole book in Norm's voice. It works for me, but I can see how it definitely would not work for everyone, even fans of his stand-up.
I love all these older live shows where you can see the evolution of Norms jokes as he works them out, then does the polished version on his specials and TV appearances. I wish I could have had a beer with him and told him how much I loved him and his comedy.🍺Cheers Norm!
if im being 1000% honest the special did not do much for me as i had heard the jokes through these recordings a million times and already had a million laughs over them. still an amazing set though!
PPS- I Think it was during a Letterman Show Interview… but 👀 yourselves- Typical NORM Story/ Tale; he went to visit his Grandfather, who took home on a Little Tour - Reminiscing on ALL : Barns/ Wooden/ Bridges/ Bakery He- Himself had built … - CLASSIC🏆!
"It makes me sad that nothing makes me feel sad." Just proving that all great comedians are deeply depressed. Depression isn't always sadness. It's very often numbness.
I'm just going to leave you with this quote by Norm: “I always bristle when people say, ‘The comedian is the modern-day philosopher, there are modern-day philosophers.” He has said this many times in both interviews and on stage. This is a very strange comment coming from a channel for a "school" that seemingly has a heavy emphasis on philosophy.
I feel like this is the best worded and timed version of this set, all in all. Others have perhaps better veriations but thus is just dam near perfect.
👍👍👍 Jason! It’s Only ( in MY Opinion) the VETERAN Stand-Up Professional , always Refining their Material & Delivery- Those we’re the Days! Norm is just that someone you want to shout the name of in a comedy bar cause he is so funny and he makes you feel funny that you just want to scream his name and hug him
@@bubbyberry i been listening to everything you upload. thank you so so much, i appreciate your service. he'll say a few things here and there(love you too, stuff like that), but i think 10 minutes of a conversation is the longest recorded crowdwork interaction i've ever heard him do in a stage set.

I saw most of the same act in early February 2020 in Seattle, so that would’ve been a few months later into the tour. That performance was a smidge smoother, because he had a bunch of shows to finish working on the material, but it was no less or more genius than this one was. Rest In Peace, Buddy.
5:09 I also love Las Vegas.. I honestly wasn't sure what I'd think & after spending some months there.. I am always thinking about going back & have a couple times..
57:28 I think norm forgot to introduce the “on 9/11” tag at the beginning. I had to rewind to make sure I didn’t miss it. I wonder if the few who did chuckle know the joke or simply fell into the giggles since they’re at a comedy show
