Something that always makes me laugh is how Norm perfectly phrases all the big science words the first time as the professor, but when he's "retelling" the story as himself he fucks them all up.
@@Eliza-yd7fi and what exactly was his craft. Whatever you define it as he mostly just cracked me up. By the way, you are exactly right, or at least I hope you are, because that's exactly how I would describe it. 😂😂😂
@@pepa007 The joke was about how simple inferences could lead to using logic to determine characteristics about a person. Norm invited the professor for a chicken after the first meeting. Later in the joke Norm uses his bad logic and determins that the guy at the bus stop is gay. Then at the end the "gay guy" invites Norm to do the same thing Norm had said to the professor. So using norms bad logic he flips it on himself. Norm would now use the logic and jump to the fact he himself may be a deeply closeted gay man.
I always love the moment when a crowd figures out what the punchline is gonna be. And it's right when he says "I'll give you an example". Already had them dead.
Had to come back to watch this joke in his honor. Imagine being able to make people smile and laugh for a living and actually being good at it. RIP NORM
100% its almost comforting hearing something you know is kinda perfect in that moment. But thats a whole load of pretentious commie gobblede gook if you ask me
just had to watch this because somebody in a comments section was trying to insult a bunch of jerks by saying "I bet none of these people have doghouses".
Andys laugh at the "come have a chicken with me" line is incredibly contagious. The line by itself is hilarious but his laugh really drives it home. One of the most genuine laughs Andy has had on the show, and norm is the only one who can get that reaction.
It’s a smart joke. He shows the audience that the man smoking the cigarette doesn’t understand logic. Obviously there’s no correlation between the cigarette and the busses arrival. I dont think it was there on accident
I know you're trying to say nice things about Norm, but comparing the levels of sadness due to a person's death.. Something just isn't right about that.
@@tien90802 really? Is it wrong to mourn one loss more than another and compare them? I don’t think so. I think it leads to understanding emotion. I’m going to grieve for my mother or father, much more than i would a goldfish. There’s nothing wrong with comparing those two losses and how they make someone feel.
@@tien90802 if anything, comparing how one feels towards which individuals die is a key piece of literature. Kings care less about a random serf dying, than they would their own child. The reasons are obvious, and the king himself comparing his feeling towards losing a serf to losing a child is not inherently wrong in any way. If anything, we may have had better kings and queens had they given more thought to their citizens lives. Ignoring these comparisons would more likely lead to ignorance. Also sorry for sending you such long replies a year later. I just enjoyed what you were talking about and although I disagree, I think you do still bring up an insightful point. Cheers!
The comedic writing of thiz joke is absolutely beyond genius! the build up of the story along with the laughs throughout is perfect delivery! RIP Norm 🙏
My favorite comedian, Norm Macdonald, passed away yesterday. He was less than a year older than me. Norm didn't just make me laugh. He influenced the way I talk and the way I look at life around me. Despite being a celebrity I feel he was a person I would have enjoyed hanging out with. Rest in peace, Norm. Sincerely, Martin Hall, professor of logic
The first time I saw Norm was from Mike Tyson’s Mystery Adventures and became obsessed with this man, it was such a shock to me to here of his death on my way home from work. The world is a little less funny now, in a world with such fake people he was suck a genuine person and his soul focused on making us laugh. My heart goes out to his family and his loved ones. Rest In Peace Norm, we’ll miss you.
Mike Tyson's Mysteries was funny with Norm as the Pigeon. That was a watered down Norm though. His SNL Weekend Update was so brutal, he was fired. Lol.
As long as it was, this was the most sensibly delivered Norm MacDonald anecdote I've ever seen. To the point I was expecting some sort of tangent to take it away from the obvious punchline
I've binge watched Norm about 5 times since being reminded of him after the KFC ad ... it is incredible how he still makes me laugh every time ...with Norm there's always some subtle nuance you've missed ... amazing person ... and I feel sure that he's heaven's court jester now ... in the perfection of peace that we all look forward to .... (as Christians that is) ... if you don't know that then you missed Norm's underlying subtlety ...
I think Conan wanted him to clean it up a little for air. If you notice, some of the jokes he did on the later shows he cleaned up when doing them for letterman. I think Conan was new and didn’t want the word fag airing on his show at that time.
I think it's a diversion tactic. He does that for his long jokes. It makes sure you don't keep thinking about the previous joke so that he can connect the last joke without being predictable.
It absolutely did! Norm (in the story) thinks the cigarette guy's bus theory is apparently inferior to that which Norm (in the story) hears from the professor : "well that theory went down the drain" yet goes on to tell the professors theory confidently as though perfect. The irony is the joke here. Norm's greatest humour lies in the details.
Here I am, thinking I've head all of Norm's stories. This one had me in tears! The first punchline was fantastic, then he nails you with the second one right when you were laughing the hardest!
Norm was so funny and not like a professional comedian .. he is like that crazy clssmate who always made you laugh and occasionally got you in trouble .. loved his professor of logic joke .. he was the best weekend update on SNL . Left us too soon .. maybe its just another joke ..
People saying this is clumsy or improvised are mistaken, I’ve seen Norm do the same joke in different occasions, and the genius is that the whole thing is completely planned and thought out, he knows when the audience will laugh, and even the follow up with the chicken as a second punch line is part of the act. Norm was incredibly smart, so smart in fact he would make everyone feel smarter than him so he could land that punchline like no one else. He’s sorely missed, what a genius!
