The shark seems to me a metaphor for depression. It follows him throughout his day and gets the best of him at his job. He goes home and it eats him whole. Wow much feels very relate
not only that, they have consistently improved. At this point I would put Cory in the running as a strong contender for best metal singer ever. Norma Jean is great.
i like all iterations of the band, but look up the lineup changes. idont even know if theres an original member left. been awhile since i read about them but yeah this bands gone thru a few dif vocalist
@@dakotahsteier5481 there's not. They had switched every member by like 2012. They kept the spirit though. The first singer went on to do the chariot which was amazing. Now 68
We calmly weigh our thoughts before we know them Careful not to break our only scale But there’s no lament in taking chances Fall a little while before we soar Sword in mouth and helpless in the bond we have between us Fire eyes and desperate for the helplessness we love Turn to walk the path in my reflection But not before the sheep becomes the wolf Loveless without shame. I was only waiting for the calm before the storm. The tongue was being sharpened by the lie. Sword in mouth and helpless in the bond we have between us Fire eyes and desperate for the helplessness we love Tell us all the things we need to know now You’ll find us in the silence of our own guilt Shout it from the hell below Shake us but be gentle so Take our hand walk us through Take my hand walk me through the land I stole Help us to lay down
This guy's voice is just as heavy as the guitars, man. It's almost like he's trying to out shine the rest of the instruments despite the fact they all come together perfectly. This shit's rad!
I understood it as what depression does to a person. It deprives of the life you established, follows you everywhere (like a shark, or a black dog), and finally devours you.
Yeah I watched this and then had to look up the Street Sharks cartoon from the 90’s and binge watched it for 4 hours. Have to be awake for work in 3 hours. Thanks Norma Jean.
Don't understand what is going on in the comments, but this album is phenomenal. Really powerful lyrics and well written songs that cover everything you could want. The old Norma Jean may be "Dead" but the new one is pumping out quality! Keep it coming! Support Southern Rock!!
People can't accept change, you either love them or not who cares what other people think Norma Jean has made my pee hot since their first Album change vocalist change style all you want I still get the chills every single time I hear this song emotion is what makes this band and you can feel it in every single album they have made. Nuff said!
NOTHING about this is Southern to me (I'm from CA and moved to the SC/GA border--Beaufort/HH area--and...I gotta say. *To me, the ONLY bands that capture your sound here is HE IS LEGEND!!!!!!!* (SERIOUSLY...they are sooo f--kin' awesome in how they just go from genre to genre in a single verse or song...like space rock/alt rock verses to the most Every Time I Die-southern Pantera riffing chorus ever!! Norma Jean's old album will never be outdone. Srry
...Oh and Maylene and the Sons of Disaster...They are just soooo chargin'. I mean, if you don't want alcohol poured down your gullet at the very sound of that band, something is wrong w/you lol jk....But seriously, them, Legend, Norma, Zao, and a handful of others I've grown to like (All that Remains is kinda southern) are the key stars in that scene to me as an outsider.
I love this entire album!! It shows the depth of Norma Jean. May not be as heavy as they have been in the past but this album just has so much more feeling to it.
Song title comes from the Bible, Revelation chapter 19 verse 12 reads: "His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself." and verse 15 reads: "And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God."
John Danger Redeemer was just too dopesick. That was my first metalcore album and I was new to the style. I actually didn't really like it when I first bought it...but like a fine wine enthusiast I cultivated the taste for it, and it is awesome!
Really glad I decided to check these guys out. Didn't want to at first because of the band name & thumbnail. Just didn't seem like it would be this type of music. This is amazing. Gonna go check out some of the older stuff.
Woa. Haven't heard these guys since their second album. This is way different, yes. But it's also incredible. I didn't even know the dude could sing this powerfully. Really enjoying this.
I could care less about their music changing, I'm just glad these guys represent something positive. Some people love a band for the music, but others like the ideals and purpose behind what a band stands for. Would you criticize a pastor for what he wears, or how he speaks...or would you criticize him for his message and what he stands for?
The words in a song are damn near irrelevant to anyone besides the writer. The voice is just another instrument to be used as a tool to take nothing more than an idea or collection of ideas and make a piece of art(just like all forms of art). The words can carry a message, but who honestly cares? And I would always judge a pastor in every respect, especially since they think they hold some kind of moral imperative that they pull their thoughts out of a book written by sheep herders.
+Legend Mull agree 100% im all about the words and the emotion behind them.anyone can write lyrics but getting that emotion behind them is what its all about make you feel the words not just hear them
Did he just knock his mouse to that tin to perform a left click at 2:05? It's a very creative way to get around the problem of not having fingers, this guy seems like a natural born problem solver, no wonder he has been elected the employee of 2013!
Remember listening to these guys back in the day when they were originally called Luti-Kriss. great album to check out. and also Project 86 is another good listen. great band.
this is really different from their other stuff, but I'm glad you like the older stuff too, but if you want to see where they started check out the song "Memphis Will Be Laid to Waste" which features their original singer Josh Scogin, who now fronts the band The Chariot which is one of the heaviest and craziest bands I have ever listened to
