Might I ask what medium was used in the paintings. Were they smaller and hung like Western paintings or were they murals painted onto walls or room dividers?

It's a scroll painting with pigments such as indigo & cinnabar. This Qing version is also made with Western pigments introduced during the Qing Dynasty
