a tip for you: use the stereo fixer audio effect to make all your dialogue mono so that you don't get phase cancellation like some of the clips in this video

If normalising in davinci works like in any DAW, it will only set the volume to your highest peak. If it did use a median, you would get peaks and transients clipping violently. So if your audio track has one single short transient coming through, that is let's say 3db higher than the next peak, you will practically lose 3db of overall volume. Then if you normalise another track to the same peak volume, but that track has much less dynamic range, you will have a significant gap in volume. You gotta work your tracks first with compression, limiting, saturation etc. Normalising audio does NOT replace using sense and ears. I see so many youtube videos where the sound is all over the place, simply because they just normalise shit and don't process the tracks correctly...

So should I normalize the project like he’s doing in the short after I use limiter and compressor? Or just not at all?

I just used this on a 12 minute video with lots of cuts and found that a few times through the video it would seemingly randomly pick out a shorter clip and turn the volume up way too high. The lesson is of course to never 100% trust automatic tools and always do a pre watching before exporting and uploading etc

Do you have a video where you discuss the various Normalize presets: "True Peak", "Sample Peak", "RU-vid", "Netflix", "Disney", etc.? I wonder what the variations are for, and how they differ.

This is dope! Does this also bring up quieter spots to even everything out, similar to a compressor?

No. This is just to determine the best level.

Thank you for the tips! If you have two voice tracks, do you all recommend normalizing individually, or relative (I believe that is together) Thanks!
