He did a technique for the sound called "pen point percussion". He drew on the right side of 35mm magnetic sound film. Here's the video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Q0vgZv_JWfM.html
its amazing how he actually drew on the film and made these dots and stuff appear. He even drew his own audio track by drawing an audio line onto the film. theres another guy named pierre drouin who used needles to poke film and make a sort of grid picture. i dont think any of his stuff is on youtube, though.
This man definitely new what timing was, i'm an animator and have many resources now to help with timing he didn't have. He's awesome! love begone dull care, so well done, its my fav
Kanadianas Crazy to think that you wrote this comment, unaware of what was to come next. At that time 2019 was too far off in the future to even think about, and yet here we are... with a random stranger writing a long ass reply to a random comment you made almost a decade ago. Lol ik this is random, but it’s crazy to see bits and pieces of the past and think abt how different it must’ve been.
DrRestezi lol I don’t rlly watch this daily or anything but i do see the occasional comment. hope ur doing well in these stressful times, 7 months ago I would’ve never imagined the world would’ve ended up like this. But hey, ur here! Nice to see ya😂
impressive, when you know that every sound was made by scratching the audio-track, master of mechanical/technical expirimentation whith the celluloid medium
@obrazov : dont forget that futursimo is inside of a time with a lot of diferent directions. It would be wrong to say that it is only son of futurismo, maybe you want to say one of his parents may be futurismo, as like other movements of that times (suprematism, abstracionism, surrealism, dadaism), or parents of also futurismo. But definitvely, futurism one of the most influyents in that times.
@GeoCloset You know, I've been looking, and I can't find anything either. Maybe I have the name wrong; I know I read a little thing about him in this DK book. If I get anything, I'll let you know.
Jonathan Millar Nice try. You Scots didn't appreciate him so he moved to Canada, did most of his best work, and then died many years later. You can keep John 'The First Blast of the Trumpet Against the Monstruous Regiment of Women' Knox and haggis.
hinterwelter it doesn't matter one bit what his nationality was. And please - the haggis, kilts, shortbread and Knox image of Scotland is dated and unrecognisable. Put another way, had McLaren been a young artist in Scotland today, he would have found the support and appreciation he needed without looking to Canada.
Canadian NFB financed his work and films. I am a Canadian descendant of Scotland, and I love Scotland, the birthplace of my Grandfather, but lets face it Canada gave McLaren everything. Scotland never gave my Great Grandfather any land or even hope of obtaining it, that is why they came to Canada.
Just in case anybody wants to see Drouin's work: his name is Jacques Drouin, not Pierre, And there's tons of his stuff here. Start with "Mindscape", it offers a good introduction on Drouin's work. Apparently his main animation technique is through "pinscreen" which is actually sand on a back lit glass pane where the movement of the image is created by moving small amounts of sand (with a pin) in order to get a general movement frame by frame. It would be nice to be able to do this with pixels ^^
im investigating this right now and yes, this was one of the inspirations for synthesizers, but they were created over 20 years after this was made! this man was REALLY ahead of his time
Incrível que se hj vc fazer isso num fl studio da vida não é nada. Mas escutando isso sobreposto à época em que foi criado... Tudo. Porém me lembra SOPHIE.
