I once played a '62 Gibson 335 at a music shop. Don't let let anyone tell you these older guitars don't have any extra mojo. That guitar resonated through my whole body, and my heart rate instantly went up about 20 bpm. I was in sonic heaven for a short time, and experienced something akin to an altered state. Guitar nerd? You are damn straight!

Um. EVERYONE knows but You that the Olden guitars have all the Magic. That's why they are soooo expensive and sought after. THAT is the whole point of Norman helping to manipulate the fake market. SHEESH. Did you just wake up from a coma? That is the dumbest thing anyone has said on this page in a long long time SHEESH. Hey Everybody!!! The olden guitars are good. Don't let anyone tell you they're not. Imbecile....

Fantastic guitars as usual. In the new Get Back Doc, George uses the Rosewood Tele on the rooftop but in the studio he is using the famous " Lucy" red Les Paul quite a bit too and the famous painted " Rocky" Strat makes a couple of appearances also. Priceless instruments!

It is my understanding that the maple sandwich strip found in the Rosewood Telecaster bodies is there to allow the top and back to be glued together. A one piece solid blank of rosewood thick enough for a Telecaster body would be too rare to source on a regular basis, as such thinner pieces were used to make the guitar body. The reason for the maple strip is that rosewood is too oily of a wood to glue to itself, however it can be glued to other woods (in this case maple). 2" thick rosewood blanks are to rare and expensive, 1" thick rosewood blanks are much easier to source, thus the design of a front and back glued together utilizing the maple sandwich so it will stand the test of time (in most cases). Modern Rosewood Telecasters are sometimes weight relieved, the vintage late '60s and early '70s however are not weight relieved.
@guitar78ish
@guitar78ish 2 года назад
This makes way more sense than weight relief, the maple piece looks less than 1/8", so any weight relief would be minimal.

I can't work with rosewoods anymore - my immune system decided that for me whilst working with cocobolo. But yeah, I remember them being a real pain to glue. For some strange (but happy) reason I can still work with African Blackwood, which I don't understand since all other dalbergia woods just tear the hide right off my hands. Does anybody have any clue why ABW is still okay when I can't even have cocobolo or other rosewoods in my house? ABW is a dalbergia too, like cocobolo and other rosewoods.
@lapelcelery42
@lapelcelery42 2 года назад
Am I crazy, or is the lacquer on the one in this video cracked in circles exactly where you'd expect weight relief holes (which might account for different expansion rates of the wood and cause that cracking)? George's, for the pedants, had no maple skunk stripe or plug (it was a rosewood cap neck), and a hand applied satin finish.

Great pieces, we guitar freaks appreciate all the guitars you feature. That Les Paul is very nice. When I was in high school (I graduated in ‘74) I played one of the original rosewood Telecasters at King James Music on Flatbush Ave in Brooklyn. Ken, who owned the shop along with another fellow, let me check it out and play it. It was always hung in the glass door case behind the counter with a “Not For Sale” tag on it. The Fender rep was in the store quite a bit and always had interesting pieces. I wonder if that rosewood Tele is the one I played. Thanks for all the great guitar vids. 🇺🇸👮🏻‍♂️🎸

The shoulder bag buckles must sound much worse smacking the back of the guitars than they actually are. Considering there’s no one in the history of vintage guitars with more experience holding these treasures, it must be simply a sound thing. I do recall though how Mark Agnesi used to get ripped to shreds for wearing a leather jacket! He’s due an apology, frankly. Thanks again Norm, for a brilliant episode!

Norm then bangs nearly all the guitars he shows against the metal buckles. Hey, those are expensive guitars - quit scratching them!
