Nice review, I have owned the ST68 for four years now and would not trade it.

Are you recording with a ART MPA II preamp? If so can you private message me the settings you use for recording acoustic guitar with your condenser mics???

I'm considering "upgrading" from my Taylor 214CE to the ST68 and pocketing the cash. Thoughts? You spoke pretty highly of this guitar.

The Taylor 214 was compared to this Norman ST68 in this thread. Apples and oranges, other than the top wood, neck and shape, two entirely different guitars. Briefly, the Taylor 214 uses "layered rosewood" for the back and sides (but still an outstanding, lower end Taylor with superb workmanship). However, despite the layered rosewood on the Taylor, fellow guitarists have also been amazed at the overall sound and range, while finding it hard to believe that the back and sides were not solid ("one-piece") rosewood. Again, although I'd never buy another "laminate" guitar (I own a Taylor 810 and 410), the Taylor 214 was a great, small investment with beautiful, quality craftsmanship (build, finish, wood, etc) as well as outstanding sound, especially for a sub-$1000 guitar (under $800?) sounding even better than this Norman. Last, the Taylor 214 is very easy to play, highly recommended for your first guitar (I use it as my every day, go-to, knock-around guitar, however, it's still in the same condition as when I bought it 2 years ago!).

I don't know about new models, but I bought a Norman ST68 in 1989. I went to buy a Martin, but the Norman played easier and sounded better to my ears than any of the Martins. I'd never heard of them, but I felt the Norman was much better value (half the price). The store owner told me that it wouldn't fetch a decent trade-in price compared to a Martin, but I said I wouldn't trade it. He said that, eventually, I would. Well I've had numerous guitars since. My last purchase was a Taylor Builder's Edition K14ce - an amazing guitar. I still have my Norman, and it's aged very well, though it's got loads of marks/dings after many years of playing at home/gigs/pubs and clubs etc. Folks are asking me all the time - what is that guitar!!? I love it......
