dude!!!! if there's an Elden Ring channel that deserves to blow up - it's yours!!!!!!! F'n tired of people with over 100K regurgitating other's research and original ideas! Thank you for your efforts! And really seriously great video! Concise, to the point and well edited
@@ezenami gotta say he is a bit clickbaity. We need the new lads though, even Ziostorm has his place, as hes the short form dude. Vaati kinda makes ASMR videos now, Smough is tinfoil hat conspiracy guy, TA is........well hes something else entirely, using architecture as lore. And you, (the alchemist) my man, are the mythological inspiration guy. Wear the hat with pride, its a big hat (might have to lock you up in a castle full of snake people)
Lmao I saw the title of your video and immediately linked Ranni with Loki, Godwyn with Baldr and Marika with Odin in my head.... then i saw the Titles of your time markers. Very excited for a fresh perspective! Edit: Damn dude, you are so on point. Loki not crying and Valhalla/Badlands points are crazzzyy.
As a history student (like college major going into phd work in history) when i played through Elden ring it was SO CLEAR. Glad someone who is more youtube Savvy is sharing this with people
I have noticed this too, in addition to some other regional mythologies! Extraordinary content, as usual! Thank you so much! Quickly becoming one of the most exciting notifications from RU-vid on my mobile! 😂🤣💜
My Theory is Ranni killing Godwyn was personal Radagon left Rennala, and becoming Elden Lord and having a new family with 2 children Malenia and Miquella and it brings back to Godwyn when we see a statue that he loved the 2 girls, and made Ranni jealous and hateful I'd even go far saying that maybe Ranni is involve in the curse the 2 girls have, she has connection to the stars maybe she connected to gods from outer gods
Loving the elden ring videos! I was getting tired of seeing so many other creators going on tangents of theories with nothing to back them up. Very refreshing
The main difference between powerful beings in this game and in our mythology is close to how our culture psychologically views these archetypes in relation to the versions of reality that we enshrine, and how we want to play our characters. There's an IRL canon, and there's a character we want to create. The authors did a deeper version of that math that facilitates an individually determined story. Jesus canonically (not narratively), stopped the stars, stopped people being tied to fated patterns(one of two reasons the church flamed astrology, the other was because the 600 yr later story was based on astrology). Buddha, Lao Tzu, gave paths to surpass as well even though the common message for a commoner was to accept one's fate in all three paths. Odin is most like Gideon in this story. Wizard, selecting undying underlings in his hall to fight his battle that he doesn't understand. He's the worst possible version of Odin notwithstanding the voice acting in "God of War Ragnarok". It's not far off though. Odin created a cult to bind the brave war dead of all time into his service to try to avert his own inevitable end specifically because he learned the circumstances of his doom and thought he could conive a way out and didn't look past that moment toward a prophecy of his death if he survived the war against the Earth, seas, and stars. Baldur though, in Ragnarok, is the father of humanity. It's almost like Judaism was an Indo-European sky god cult that had the typical three-fold godform of tyrant, usurper, savior in the masculine the way they did maiden, mother, crone in the feminine. I think the Romans were wrong to equate Odin to Hermes, at least halfway. He's really closer to Zeus. Tyr in this game might have the ancestral spirit worshippers alone representing, but the Carian royals along with Radagon do carry a lot of his characteristics. Lugh, and Cú Culainn from Irish myth are both all over this mythology. We can't really parse it out to one mythical deity or another. It's good syncretism. This was definitely a thought provoking video. From the perfumers having themes going back to Egypt to the various outer gods being like Michael Moorcock or RE Howard alien deities, both of the creators of this game's story are exemplars of myth and psychology in story telling. EDIT: I think every religion and every popular mythology can explain ER because both of the creators are experts in understanding them, culture, and people.
Great point. I thought of Ofnir as the real Odin parallel too. Mainly once the metaphorical Yggdrasil (erdtree) burned down with his end coming soon after it as he realizes some kind of infinite cycle is about to do him in. Elden Ring really is a great example of mythopoeic work .
I love seeing parallels and things that were inspired from mythology and media, but I never assume anything in ER is meant to be a one-to-one comparison, or try to guess character motovations based on those references. For instance, I hear all the time that Miquella must be evil because he's similar to Griffith. For one thing, Fromsoft has never been known to have predictable writing, and I also just don't think Miyazaki would be that derivative.
Agreed. Even if the extent of it is exaggerated, I think it's pretty clear that miquella was trying to do good. I think you need to do some mental gymnastics and outright ignore in game lore to try and reach that conclusion.
Straight up nobody talks about the Norse side of the lore but it’s so heavy dawg the lands between is Midgard the shadow lands is Hel the erdtree is Yggdrasil there’s jotun, dark elves, Valkyries, etc etc etc lmao they need to do dlc for all 9 realms it would be sick af
If the land of shadow in the middle of the map then its the true land between and the land between was a hint to this place from the start of the base game and we didn't know it
I can imagine a coop elden ring session that looks a lot like corbyn and goldmask, TA just looking at walls and statues (and stelae ofc) while alchemist is just sitting around reading about some obscure mesopotamian mythology.
I noticed the reference about Odin, but didn’t do a video about it as I was waiting for more similarities to pop up. You stick to that hint and found stuff… Guess I lost this opportunity, bravo 👏🏻 Ps as your competitors and being a bit envious of your numbers I want to mention the following: another reason I didn’t do the video is that by a brief research “Marica Odin” I could find that someone else already discussed this reference on Reddit and I would have expected you to mention this person, as for Zulli the Witch from who you toke some clip. If that would have been my content I would be rather upset.
Glad you liked it, didn't see that post you mentioned on reddit but I am sure basically everything was discussed on some post on reddit at some point lol. The picture of Godwyn is extracted by Zullie yes but i forgot to mention that in the description, Thanks for reminding me.
I wanna comment that in the myth, Loki also tricked Baldr's blind brother Hoder into shooting the mistletoe arrow. So, Odin got together with a giantess who gave birth to Váli, who grew to adulthood within a day and slew poor Hoder. The dlc might reveal that there is more to Godwyn's murder plot.
Actually what the fuck. The parallels to Norse mythology fit so cleanly I can't believe this isn't talked about as the basis for every lore theory ever. I guess the Christian symbology was a very effective red herring.
I agree with your theory on the tarnished, they were sent to the badlands to live, fight and die, until the day they're called back, with the goal that after many years one would be born who is capable of becoming elden lord. I also feel there's a deeper conection with Godfrey, Godwyn and the tarnished. Are all tarnished related to Godfrey?
No not all tarnished are descendant from Godfrey, we don't actually know for sure if he had childreen in the badlands (nepheli name might imply that tho). Godfrey was banished along side his warriors so the modern day tarnished are descendants of those.
@@G4meplus but also some might be Numen or come from the land of reeds so that complicate things a bit. I've been thinking a lot about a possible link there. Also Marika wanted us back but it was the greater will who called us, so they're likely two agendas. The greater will was desperate for a new lord, Marika had something else in mind. Also, if I remember correctly when fighting Godfrey, a light of grace seemed to be guiding him against us
Brother, I don't know if you'll see this, but I accidentally wrote a video and copied your ideas without having ever watched it before. My video will be 4*5 times longer as I discuss Germanic and Pagan lore. However, your points of Odin=Marika, Baldr= Godwyn and Loki=Ranni are almost the exact same as mine. I know this is weird, but can I still have your blessing to post my video. I have so much more to discuss, but I don't want to come across as a plagirist.
@@G4meplus the lore surrounding Miquella, wolves and the eclipse, with Messmer’s fire and serpents are how I come to that. They may not physically be those, but they certainly seem to be aimed at following in the prophecy of Ragnorak.
@@G4meplus yes, absolutely pure destruction. She also keeps on lying and manipulating you throughout the game. Most of the blights plagueing the common man stems from her. I think alot of players like her because the doll is pretty and she has a soft voice.
