It will be interesting to see how the renovations will play out but it’s very disappointing to see a good amount of species not being brought back. What will replace the prairie dog habitat?
Looking at the map rendering I think the prairie dog space will be incorporated into the new Black Bear exhibit. What I'm more curious about is what I will be done with the current Black Bear and Otter habitats once those species are moved to their new homes. There could be an opportunity to bring in a new species or two there to make up for those not being brought back.
Awesome tour of the Columbus Zoo, Derek. I love how you included Polar Frontier into your tour. One of my favorite exhibits featuring native animals is Alabama Wilds at the Birmingham Zoo. They have a great black bear exhibit with two rescued black bears, along with wild turkeys, otters, golden eagles, sandhill cranes and a farm which serves as the finale. I also love Texas Wild at the Fort Worth Zoo, because it has so much to offer. I got to get really close to a brown pelican, I recorded my first ocelot, and I was really lucky to see their coyotes howl.
