Love the new loco. I noticed it does look a bit like the diesels in US did in the 1950's. We started building diesels just after World War II. By the mid 50's most railroad had either moved steam to shutting work or scraped them. By 1960 steam ceased operating on most US railroads. Sad to say very few were saved. I'm glad you blokes in the UK saved many steam locos. It's great seeing them on heritage railways. We don't have many heritage railways in US. I'm very fortunate to live about 30 miles from a railroad that operates steam. Bill & Janet from California

I was quite surprised when I saw this locomotive on your layout as I’m used to seeing steam or diesel multiple units. It is a lovely engine and the history behind it is fascinating. What a pity it’s so awkward to get to the decoder without damaging something. Our patience is amazing as always. Thanks for sharing. Roy.

Hi Tony, You have an interesting loco there. When you said it was built around 1962, I thought it odd as it was early crest making it 1949 - 1956. It was actually built by the North British Locomotive Company on the 1st July 1950. It appears to be in ex works livery and, like you say, it could do with some weathering. Interesting it was cannibalised during the 1972 miners' strike. The engine and generator were removed as a standby generator for the Brush Falcon works. Enjoy you new addition to the North Eastern. A very nice Christmas addition indeed and great to see on the layout. It looks like the precursor to the Class 15 of which I have a Heljan model of and those side ladders have gone thankfully. Mine was surprisingly quite light at 275g, managed to add an extra 105g to enhance its pulling power. See yours performed great up Stephensons Bank. Hi Tony, A great model of an interesting prototype. I think when it was built, North British were hoping for some export orders to the USA, which never materialised, hence why the loco looks so American in it's layout. The chimney on the short bonnet you mentioned in the video was I think the exhaust for the steam heating boiler. I have a few Heljan Diesel Locos in my own collection and if they are anything to go by this loco will pull anything up Stephenson Bank, even your house! Well maybe not your house, but you get the idea.. Anyway a lovely looking locomotive, and hopefully a great addition to the fleet. All the best Dave, and Happy New Year to you.
