100-year businesses don't exist. The retail industry is dead. In the rugged White Mountains of northern New Hampshire, neither of those statements are true. North America’s oldest ski shop, Lahout’s, has remained open 365 days a year since 1920. While e-commerce and conglomerates have stripped the country of local, independent retailers, a family of Lebanese immigrants have prevailed for a century, beating the Great Depression, World War II, the Dot Com Crash and the Great Recession.

Here's an idea...instead of buying online this winter, buy at least one piece of gear( assuming you're buying anything) from your local shop. This proves local ski shops are vital to our communities and to our culture. 2020 sucks, let's make it suck a little less

Deeply touching. My first skis came from Lahout's, and I terrorized Cannon every time I stayed with my grandparents in Whitefield. After living and skiing out West the North Country spirit never fades.. RIP Joe Lahout

I love this story and I will definitely be buying something at Lahout's this season. My first ski trip was to Mittersill when I was probably 6 or 7, we drove by Cannon and it was very scary. Sixty years later and having raised my 3 sons to become ski racers in Vermont, we recently moved to North Conway area and I am determined to get to Cannon this winter. Thanks again to sharing this wonderful story, your grandfather was quite a man!

I am a skier, but growing up in WV, the sport came to me later in life. The footage around 9-10 minutes takes me back to my own childhood with my Polish grandmother. A ski film, but so much more! Thanks TGR.

This is hands down the best ski film and story telling I've seen in a long long time. It always gives me hope when I see brands backing honest, long form story for films, and not just assembly lining cheap concepts to funnel traffic and turn profits. I'm just blown away by the work from Stept Studios and all involved here. It appears this took at least four years to film, edit, and release. That's a ton of time to sit on a project. It was well worth the wait. Thank you.

Thanks TGR for documenting this side of snow sliding. So much of our sport is done by humble and hardy athletes, at the end of a dirt road, in far from ideal conditions. The community and shared bonds we have as mountain people is so valuable.

I'm praying this is a good season so I can enjoy many seasons to come. Vail bought the resort a few years ago and ruined everything. We are one of the only family owned shops left. P.s. This is a amazing tribute to a family who loved one another, cares about others and community along with appreciating the gift of the outdoors. Watching this documentary resurfaced joyful emotions from my past of learning to ski in the 70's, working in the industry, snowboarding in 80's, teaching my now adult boys who live in Colorado to ski and board, and lastly so many beautiful winter and outdoor activity memories. This movie puts into perspective that life is special, goes by quickly and can be enjoyed with practicality. Thank you for sharing.

Man. I grew up near Laramie, Wyoming, and my family has owned a small cabin right near the Snowy Range Ski Resort in the northern part of the Rockies in the Snowy Range (hence the name haha). This video made me so emotional. The resort is right near the town of Centennial, Wyoming, where many local businesses and families have been since I can remember. It’s those kind of people that give these special, independent, small town Ski resorts the vibrance, life, and uniqueness that I grew up around and treasure. I hope that this part of Skiing never loses its soul!
