ok, i think it's time cover something else, i got several other video's in production on Ukraine, Modern Vietnam, lebanon and a few other nations. Plus video's on the Boer Wars , Korean War 1950, Gulf War, Otton navy and some more ww2 german weapons.
It has to be very short distance weapon, unlike RPG-7 which have range to 700-920m, since this doesn´t seem to have an escape hole for rocket motor gases after ignition which means this can´t possibly handle much pressure without bulging the launcher or even exploding. My wild guess is that this isn´t actually a rocket powered antitank grenade but just a big rifle grenade for antitank use with a special rifle. And the reason why they are using the same warhead as North Korean copies of RPG-7, is possibly to ease and simplify production.
@Lets Play Minecraft It has a trigger and stock. It’s obviously meant to be fired. North Korea has enough sense not to just send its troops into suicide charges even if they didn’t they wouldn’t create a gun for it. They’d just stick a warhead on a pole as the Japanese did in the past.
According to “The Armed Forces of North Korea: On the Path to Songun” by Stijn Mitzer and Joost Oliemans it is believed to be a sort of PIAT style weapon intended for indirect fire with a fairly long range with a secondary anti-armor role from what I remember from the short bit about the weapon in the book.
My best guess is that it is a special rifle grenade attachment that can be fired by means of a blank through a modified older version of a Mosin-Nagant. It would have to fire a lighter version of the RPG-7 warhead, perhaps even a RPG-2 warhead.
Exactly, it’s not necessarily a bad idea tbh. The thing I’m wondering is how exactly they modified the rocket since that’s definitely an RPG-7 as if they could use those why make an entirely new round? Which is probably the idea behind this thing as opposed to the other rocket gun Jman mentions, which appears to use its own warhead. So this is more economical too.

That would be fascinating if that was true but I’m unsure if you could fire an RPG warhead with a PIAT style mechanism. A spring launching that beast? The PIAT was insanely hard to cock firing a much smaller projectile. Imagine trying to fire this. I do feel if it is w PIAT-like system the range is going to be horrendous. @@MrBirdonawire I ended up rereading that section of the book and I found that I had remembered it incorrectly. It uses similar munitions to an RPG-7 but with an inert booster charge and it uses a dummy round instead, more like a rifle grenade. It apparently can hit targets from over 1 kilometer away, but with poor accuracy. Still, 1km is a much greater range than any rifle grenade or grenade launcher’s projectile.
Jman I think I figured it out, Considering what Butters Stotch commented about it being a grenade rifle, imo this HAS to be specifically for firing from inside buildings and other places where back blast would prohibit other weapons. Might be kinda smart for if they were invaded and handing these out to masses of conscripts to hide in every nook and cranny in urban areas, and wait until a target is close. The warhead isn’t as much a threat to modern SK or US MBTs but any lesser armored vehicle is in danger, as well as troops. And could serve as another way to save heavier warheads for appropriate targets and make better use of their stock.
👉👉👉 There's really no reason to make fun of it, because this design makes perfect sense. Think about it, there is as good as no western system that you can shoot down completely protected in prone position, but this one from North Korea certainly can, so the idea isn't that bad! If the overpressure exhaust gases were also diverted upwards then it would be an old system in RPG7 style, but very well and thoughtfully converted to protect the soldier.
Am I seeing things or is that a stock? Where is the back blast going to vent? Unless this in some form of stowage or transport configuration I fail to see how this could possibly work. At all. The RPG 7 is a heavy duty warhead and certainly could not be fired like a rifle grenade. I guess you could remove much of the propellant but I still believe this system is almost an impossibility. Plus I highly doubt North Korea would dismantle the quality RPG 7 rounds to just to reduce the propellent. I did notice where they where holding the system with their left hand it looks like that part might explain a lot. Whether it folds out for shouldering or perhaps venting the gasses around the user. But this seems like an absurd weapon to create.
Just to add to my comment this may also just be a show weapon. Intended to scare the South and America by making us believe that every Mosin they have can be easily converted to shoot an RPG 7 warhead. Both of which they have a ton of. My only other thought… suicide unit? Long rifle, run like hell and slam it into the side of a vehicle? I am really feeling this is not functional and only used to intimidate enemy nations.
2:48 it may be because the RPG 7 is not good in small spaces because there is a explosion behind you so it is my belief that this weapon is designed to solve that problem
could have same use as US made rpg copy. thermobaric granade launcher they're about twice the size of typical rocket and that nk weapon may have blank cartrige assist so you get same range regardless of weight. So it could b urban warfare Rpg with bunker busting capability
Maybe an hybrid between rifle grenade and rocket system? So after the initial shot, the rocket activate itself. Making it suitable for indoor shoot without impacting too much the range. Maybe.
What...where, how.....WHERE DOES THE BACK BLAST GO? YOU essentially took the length savings of the RPG-7 and extended it with a pointless stock to make a longer single shot weapon. Its baffling.
Would you be so kind as sto talk about Switzerlands anti tank rifle grenades for the next show if you haven't done so already I would love to see it....and any things else about other countries use of rifle grenades.....
It maby is so they can fire the warhead of rpg7 witout the roket engine luke rifle granade otherwise i cant think of any senario why they would make this
I would think its not that "sophisticatet" everyone suspect it to be, like a polish rpg-76 or even some kind of WW2 Panzerfaust. For me it seems to be some RPG-7 Warhead, but without a Rocket-motor - simple propelled by the blast of the rifle cartridge. Cheap and simple. Instead of a tube they could use a simple guide rod wich fits in every kind of rifle barrel. This could give the right balance to the granade but with no wings required... May this be possible?

Appears to be a souped up m91/30 firing mechanism or similar ..set up specifically for grenade launching? Like the yugo sks with grenade launcher used .. this weapon is kinda Like a really awful spigot launching m203. They've been watching too many cartoons.
You have too much confidence in yourself to make dumb assertion that you believe are correct when you talk about something you don't know. Concept of this weapon system is similar to Polish RPG-76. it is designed that way to allow launching inside of confined spaces.
its just a rifle grenade. nothing unusual and in various forms have been around long before rpg style systems. if anything this is proof of desperation. who cares.
I feel like this is a North Korean M-79 but it’s able to fire more long range rocket propelled ammunition like anti tank rockets as well as none rocket propelled ammunition
