The official theme song of the North Melbourne Kangaroos Football Club.
The North Melbourne Kangaroos are an AFL football club established in 1869. They played in the VFA for many years before the VFL was formed and tried to join it when the VFL first came to be. Their proposal to join was rejected by the Essendon Football Club as they were worried about losing supporters in the area. It wouldn't be until 1925 when North Melbourne finally joined the VFL alongside Footscray and Hawthorn. Since then they have gone on to win 4 premierships, them being the 1975, 1977, 1996 and 1999 VFL/AFL Grand Finals. The Kangas finished 18th on the AFL ladder in 2022 meaning they have won the wooden spoon two years in a row. The Kangas are the team that I have supported since birth and I want nothing more than to see them succeed. Even as a roo fan at heart, I can only see them finishing as high as 13th or as low as 18th in 2023. Cannot wait to see how our coming seasons turn out to be with Alistair Clarkson and all our new coaching staff in charge. The only way we can go is up! (unless of course we have a winless season, which is unlikely but far-out we were bloody close in 2022. Seriously, we were extremely lucky to beat the WAFL eagles and pointmond. Can you imagine what things would be like if we didn't win a game? it genuinely scares me). Wishing the best and good luck in 2023, Kangas!
Lyrics:
(opening)
So join in the chorus, and sing it one and all,
join in the chorus, North Melbourne's on the ball.
Good old North Melbourne, they're champions you'll agree,
North Melbourne is the team that plays to win for you and me!
(instrumental)
So join in the chorus, and sing it one and all,
join in the chorus, North Melbourne's on the ball.
Good old North Melbourne, they're champions you'll agree,
North Melbourne is the team that plays to win for you and me!
