It was great living near El Cajon and 30th St in the eighties. Shopped locally at the Bergers HW, restaurants, repaired cameras at George's, browsed the Controversial Bookstore on University, bought lots of magazines at Paras' newsstand, did laundry in a coin laundry on 30th, used the post office, got carburetor rebuilds at the shop on El Cajon west of 30th, ate at the Mexican restaurant on Adams near 30th every Friday night, went for long walks and bike rides...
And now they are putting a median down the middle of University Ave, thereby forcing all parking off University. Exactly where are people supposed to park to go to the shops and eateries there? I get water at The Water Lady store and the new meridian there now has eliminated parking on the street in front of the store and has made it much more difficult to park and get your water back to your car. I'd like to know who the idiots are that decided the meridian was a good thing.... and did they even ask the shop owners if they wanted it? Doubt it. Sometimes "progress" isn't a good thing. If it's not broke, don't fix it.
Same boneheads that put all the awful walls on the freeways....you have no leeway for error in rain, traffic, weather...no additional foot or two...to correct. Stupid....those islands medians a lot of times go unpainted, cant see at night, you hit them on turns or by accident. They need to be European style if they are going to put them....tapered, rounded but not big, square and unpainted!
Yeah, cuz gentrification is WAY worse than needle strewn ghettoes with graffiti on every surface that isn't BURNED. We need to not BREED poverty. Don't have kids is you can't provide, nurture and protect them.
@@METALFAN4EVS Cool, how about support policies that invest public education, public healthcare, public housing, etc. The things you know that lower the crime rate in all areas. Unlike gentrification, which means you push problems from one neighborhood to another without ever solving the problem.
@@22lyric ghettos existing richest country in the history of the world? I thought America was number 1?🤔 I thought everyone was living the American dream... I guess that’s why they call it just a “dream.”
Is this a joke? There was literally only 4 seconds of News 8 footage from 1986 and Shannon talked over Connie Healey’s voice the whole time. This is a fine report of a SD neighborhood, but don’t sell it as “from the News 8 archives,” when it’s only 4 seconds from the News 8 archives.
It was good in the 70s too. I used to take the bus from east San Diego to North Park on university on the 7 I believe, get a transfer and get off at 30th, then walk across the street and go south on bus to cedar Street exit. I used to skate at Palisades with my sister and aunt....whole different life, TG and Y, Bank, new stand, loved to see comics, couldn't afford them, but looked cool...old 50s diner....I think maybe a jewelry store there too....great memories of that 30th and University crossroad
Right? We've all seen it before.....who lived through the 80s...thus you dont seeing any yuppies commenting because a dude playing a dude disguised as another dude don't know what dude he is anyway...Typical!
