This video has really helped me today. I've had a shit day, I had to phone an ambulance for my mother, she's having to stay in hospital overnight due to breathing difficulties. I'm also a full time carer for my disabled girl and I've just had an absolutely manic day. I haven't stopped since early this morning and I finally got to sit down around 2200 and I popped this video on and it just took my mind off everything for half an hour. Thank you.

Kris, a suggestion. It looks like the gauge in question is a liquid filled gauge and sometimes they build up a pressure inside and do not indicate the correct pressure. Pop the edge of the rubber plug and equalize the pressure to the surrounding pressure. I think you will see/hear air hiss out or get a little squire of light oil. I had the same problem earlier this year and thought the gauge was bad but read correctly after that little adjustment.
@spicymchaggis2601
@spicymchaggis2601 Год назад
Spot on. A gauge mounted vertically doesn’t need the rubber plug spiked, but a gauge laying flat or horizontal needs to be spiked to equalise

Alright Kris loved the video, love the hydro series and the rest. I work as a control and instrumentation engineer, I'm not a metrologist or telling you what to do, but if you're running a business in hydro it won't cost you much and set your mind at ease if you spend the cash and get your pressure meters etc calibrated once a year. You can give that as part of a certificate of conformity to your customers as well which is a win win and will make you look more 'professional'. There's an open source book you may be interested in that includes measurement called lessons in industrial instrumentation. It gives a good overview of measurement of different parameters like pressure and pitfalls to avoid I've found it useful throughout my career and would suggest it's worth a flick through. As other comments have mentioned you can figure out static/head pressures quite easily but with joins and Venturis etc you can be off. That book gives some good rules of thumb, your intuition is already strong though which is good. Keep the vids coming mate!

Re: pipe joiners, a trick that I learned while working adjacent to the water department of the council was to remove the internal shoulder of the joiner using a lathe. Allows you to slide the whole joiner on to one of the pipes, get the ends lined up and then slide it back to be centred over the gap. Good for pipe wrestling in a ditch.

We fit pipe from one point to another, rarely meeting in the middle without a special union or a 90º. It's way easier. If we have a plastic pipe that needs to be bent slightly or even a 90º we have electric hot blankets for plastic, hydraulic benders for steel that size. The gradual bends you're using are nice, along with using those large boulders for anchoring, sweeeet. I really like your intake device. Super nice job guys.
