It was a picture-perfect Autumn weekend, when the Northeast chapter got together on Saturday, September 23-25, 2022 in Downeast Maine. Despite residual winds from Hurricane Fiona which passed well to our east, we enjoyed good conversation, great food and a paddle. Fourteen members of the chapter met at a camp on Keg Lake in Lakeville, Maine. We all arrived Friday and set to getting ready for our bean hole beans. With the help of neighbor (and new WCHA member), Gary, and his mini-backhoe, a pit was dug. Our fearless leader President Bob Bassett built a huge campfire creating coals for the pit, while Jim and Deb put together the beans, later burying them in the hole. Other members made a great barbecue dinner. On Saturday, winds were gusty, so we spent our time getting caught up around the campfire, walking, and prepping for the bean dinner which was delicious. Sunday, the lake was calmer, so we paddled down the west side of Keg Lake, into Keg Lake stream, to the convergence of Keg Lake Stream, Bottle Lake, and Bottle Lake Stream.
It was a great weekend and wonderful to renew our yearly fall weekend get together after the interruptions caused by COVID.
