Another tip. If you want to avoid Payage (toll), you have to take the Nationale (N) routes. it takes longer but you'll catch more of the sights too and pay less tolls of course.
@Theendlessadventure
@Theendlessadventure 7 лет назад
Ya we eventually figured that one out. 😒 There are so many toll booths out there! Who knew! You're right that the other routes allow you to see more sights though 😍

You can get a Liber-T tag in the UK that fixes to the windscreen and triggers the barriers as you approach (in the correct lane, of course). The charge goes on your credit card and you pay your statement in the usual way. There's a small annual charge, too. May not help Eric & Allison, but could be of interest to other Adventurers. I have one as I travel alone and am on the "wrong" side of the car at the toll booth. www.saneftolling.co.uk/.

You have to go to Lille, very nice city and there's a great hostel named Gastama. It was awarded the best in France a few years back. And the city itself has a lot of historical buildings and halls.
@Theendlessadventure
@Theendlessadventure 7 лет назад
We'll have to check that out!
@samvermeulen9740
@samvermeulen9740 7 лет назад
You'll be surprised by the beautiful old city district (Vieux Lille). Only it's a total nightmare with a car. But if you askin the hostel they can show you free parking areas.

Thank you YT algorithm! This reminded me of my travels back in college. My friend and I backpacked from Lyon all the way to Chefchaouen in Morocco. There were some "hiccups"...it was stressful on some points but makes a great topic for conversation lol

If you are into sports search out a decathlon store massive places and quite cheap. Might have some extra shoulder pads for your rucksack.

Oh man, as soon as you started walking up to the Firefly booth I cringed. They are never worth the savings. Glad you eventually got a car though. Road trips are the best! I went to Normandy on D-Day about 10 years ago but I didn't get to see the surrounding area at all, so I'm excited to see the rest of the area. -Brian

Another awesome video guys, annoying you had to wait around for the car after you'd all been carrying around your luggage. Have to say the highlight of the video was watching the baby lambs! Keep up the wonderful work :)

Travel days can be rough. We feel like we are finally getting our stride. This looked like a rough one but you all seemed like you kept in good spirits and just rolled with it which I guess is pretty much the only option if you want to travel. We're driving in England now and the whole other-side driving thing is a challenge. At least we have the mobility to go find awesome places like we did today. Happy travels and look forward to the next vids!! - Henry 🤗🤗🐑

Oh and another quick question, happy with a link if you've covered it before. Curious what picture profile you use and any LUT or plugin you might use and do you use FCP or Premiere?. I like how the blacks are completely crushed. It's a cool look. Thanks.
@Theendlessadventure
@Theendlessadventure 7 лет назад
Dang, good luck! Took Matt about a week to get adjusted to the other side (and he never really did 😂). I use premier and I just have a preset I made which tweaks the curves a bit 👍

The Endless Adventure Just to help understanding the UK Bristol where you began driving is south West England, so is the Cotswolds ,then the Midlands ends Black country, northern England starts Derbyshire on one side Humberside on the other .

That train that looked like a "submarine" is Arts et Métiers and its like that as there is an art school above, the one where you got lost is and if I am not mistaken it is the biggest underground station in Europe with a pool, cinema and shopping complex included in it. There are some pretty amazing underground stations in Paris and they are pretty safe and cheap to use. The buskers have to audition to get a licence whilst the ones that come on the trains are illegal and the police are after them all the time. I use the Tomtom app on my phone to avoid paying tolls but sometimes it cheaper to take the toll roads themselves. I dont know what car rentals you use but I go through easyterra and they are amazing with prices and customer care. What do you typically use ?
@Theendlessadventure
@Theendlessadventure 7 лет назад
We noticed the trains in Paris seemed a bit less rowdy than some of the other cities we've been to... That submarine one was definitely the most artsy stop we've ever seen! :) We originally set google maps to avoid tolls on the drive, but it was going to take an hour and a half longer so we decided to just suck it up. Had we known how many toll booths we'd pass through, we probably would have taken the long way. And we actually don't rent cars very often, so we're not really loyal to service. This time we rented through Firefly which would have been extremely affordable except that we had quite a few hidden fees pop up over the week :/ We'll have to look into easyterra next time!
@georgesaguna
@georgesaguna 7 лет назад
The Endless Adventure try to go to easyterra.com they are brokers and get such good prices. An other advantage of using them is that if there is some mishap with the company you leased from you just tell them about it and they will handle it. They also offer the possibility to insure the excess fee with that. In short you will pay the fees to the car rental and then easy terra will pay you the money back. Having a car whilst travelling is so much better. You get to see much more at your own pace, especially with kids who might not want to stay awake all day whilst travelling, it becomes a safe haven.

If it's not been on your radar -- and even if it is, it's likely to be one for a later trip -- I can wholeheartedly recommend Slovenia, specifically the town of Bled, which is vaguely accessible by train, but more so by bus or hire car. It's very gorgeous and, better yet, very affordable, and also has a good selection of fine restaurants. Also, should you decide *not* to Airbnb (unlikely, I know!) I can wholly recommend the Jazz Hostel, run by Jani and his family; it's somewhat legendary. Also, should you go to Ljubljana, you could go to "Hot Horse" and try their horsemeat burgers. On the other hand, you could go somewhere else and eat something tasty...

Hi guys! I am planning a road trip to some destination that is within 2 hours of Paris this fall (we haven’t decided where yet, but Normandy is definitely on the list). May I ask if you’d be able to share which Airbnb this is/what the town is called? And did you like it? We did a road trip in Italy last year and did AirBnB and fell in love with it, so we are looking forward to doing it again in France!

If US credit cards weren't stuck in the 20th century, you wouldn't need cash for tolls at all. I'd tell you to get a Swiss bank account, but the IRS won't let you have one.
