I am happy to say I was on this trip, it was a birthday present to myself, I'm the tall guy. Those Northern Lights were incredible the best I've ever seen, they can be quite hard to spot with your naked eye, but not on that night. And as for Reine I have some of my favourite all time photos from there, the reflections were perfect, almost too good. Thanks Brendan. And Thanks Neal, great driving.
Stunning video Brendan 😮😮😮 gorgeous photos too. Absolutely love the square crop from below the bridge with the movement in the waves and that stunning scene of cabins and mountains.
Great video, Brendan! The Lofoten really are a special place! I was there around the same time - it really was crazy warm (one of us even went swimming in Hamnoy harbor!) and the northern light were excellent! Not much sleep, but an amazing time! Looking forward to the next videos!
FANTASTIC!!! I was there in Lofoten in Feb 2020 (no NL) I love that place and I'm hoping to go back there in March 2023. It's a long, long way from Australia, but it is worth the 30hrs to get there, let alone the $$$$ for flights these post pandemic days. Looking forward to the next episode Brendan.
@@Noeline999 Flights from Sydney- Australia to Oslo- Norway 24hrs + Oslo to Bodo. Bodo to Leknes (canceled due to weather). Ferry from Bodo to Slovaer - Lofoten, worth the effort 👍🏻 There was group of 8 Australians & 1 Norwegian & 1 BIG van … 🚐
Hi Brendan! Amazing video! We are actually going to Lofoten in February 2023 and I would like to buy a lens especially for astro/aurora photography. I shoot an R6 and I am thinking about the new RF 24mm f1.8 but that might not be wide enough. Another option is the Laowa 15mm f2. What would you suggest? Is 24mm wide enough? Or do I need the extra 9mm of the Laowa? Thanks in advance.
I actually think 24 is wide enough. Most of my images were at 24mm because I broke my 15-35mm. That said, having an extra 9mm is better for wider astro, IMO.
I understand you had a good stay here at Ballstad, with lots of photos, but it seems quite awkward to travel to Tromsø, and then drive for 8 hours to get here. Why not travel via Bodø, or even all the way to Leknes? I wish you welcome back for another stay here at Ballstad :)
Beautiful at10:37 ,lovely motion captured & a great tip about continuing shooting, thanks for that Brendan 👍 The Light's images ...fanatic captures & something I really want to shoot , can I ask what month you were there please ? Loved the video as always 👍👍
Thank you Lynne. I think so many photographers get so focused on taking as few photos as possible, for some reason. haha. I'm a big believer in work smarter, not harder.
Lesson learned. Whenever you get nature's call you need to have your camera set up and intervelometer going. You can pretty much guarantee the lights are going to come out when you are peeing or when you are packing up for the night. My camera is the 1st thing unpacked on arrival and last thing put away when leaving. I've had too many experiences of starting to leave a location and BOOM - lights. If I can, I even leave my camera on the tripod while driving because my shooting partner will be watching for lights while we're driving and start yelling at me to stop. Gotta be ready- always! :-)
There was a time in Iceland with a photography group that there was KP0 and heavy cloud. So we went out for dinner about 30 minutes from the hotel. I told everyone not to bother with camera gear. Then, on the drive home there was a massive aurora show visible through the headlights. From then on, I tell people to bring a camera everywhere and just leave tripods in the car haha
Lucky Brendan. I just spent the first 3 weeks in July on the Lofoten Islands and I had much worse weather than you in March. Rainy, cloudy, foggy and nearly no sunshine/light. Temperature around 10 degrees Celcius.
