In 2014, the Lagos State abattoir, Oko-Oba, known to be the biggest in Nigeria; recorded an average of about 2,500 cattle being slaughtered daily.
2,500 cattle a day is a staggering number considering that the abattoir serves only a section of the Lagos mainland. Such as Agege, Egbeda, Ikeja, Oshodi and some parts of its environs.
What caught my attention was not the number of cattle being slaughtered to maintain a constant supply of protein to the people but the source of these cattle.
In this video, I took a trip to one of the Northern Nigeria biggest cattle market in Abuja where I had a conversation with the cattle sellers, who happen to be one of the biggest cattle suppliers across Nigeria and the neighbouring countries.
